Description

Standing Firm is a podcast of Holy Trinity Reformed Church dedicated to “Standing Firm for the Ancient Faith and against the Ancient Foe until Christ is All in All.”

The foundations of America are being destroyed because the pillar and ground of the truth, the Church, has forsaken its call to Biblical liturgy, community and mission.

The Church has retreated from the battlefield in search of prestige, prosperity and popularity instead of continuing steadfastly in the apostles doctrine, fellowship, and worship.

Standing Firm is earnestly contending for the faith as revealed through the Holy Scriptures and explained in the historical church creeds and reformed confessions. This program is directed by Holy Trinity Reformed Church to fulfill Paul’s command in 1 Corinthians 16:13 to be on guard, to stand firm in the faith, to be courageous and to be strong.

In this episode, Pastor James Brown Jr. begins a series of podcasts to explain the identity, mission, and vision of Holy Trinity Reformed Church by answering the questions "who are we?" and "what makes us different?""The catholic or universal church, which is invisible, consists of the whole number of the elect, that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one, under Christ the Head thereof; and is the spouse, the body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all. The visible church, which is also catholic or universal under the gospel (not confined to one nation, as before under the law), consists of all those throughout the world that profess the true religion; and of their children: and is the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ, the house and family of God, out of which there is no ordinary possibility of salvation. Unto this catholic visible church Christ hath given the ministry, oracles, and ordinances of God, for the gathering and perfecting of the saints, in this life, to the end of the world: and doth, by his own presence and Spirit, according to his promise, make them effectual thereunto. This catholic church hath been sometimes more, sometimes less visible. And particular churches, which are members thereof, are more or less pure, according as the doctrine of the gospel is taught and embraced, ordinances administered, and public worship performed more or less purely in them. The purest churches under heaven are subject both to mixture and error; and some have so degenerated, as to become no churches of Christ, but synagogues of Satan. Nevertheless, there shall be always a church on earth, to worship God according to his will. There is no other head of the church but the Lord Jesus Christ. Nor can the pope of Rome, in any sense, be head thereof." –Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter 25, Of the Church
In this episode of Standing Firm, Pastor James Brown Jr discusses the reasons and purposes of this podcast as a ministry of Holy Trinity Reformed Church. The reasons are biblical and simple but controversial, and yet, the controversy is against God. When you live in an age of apostasy, even the basic tenets of Christianity are refuted. Regardless, our goal is not to be controversial or rowdy, but faithful in preaching the Word to call sinners to repentance and the saints to submission.
Imprecatory Wishes

Imprecatory Wishes

In this episode of Standing Firm, we are playing a sermon preached at Holy Trinity Reformed Church on August 7, 2022. The sermon is titled Imprecatory Wishes and is a call to the urgency of the gospel in this age of decay, deconstruction, and desolation.
In this episode, Pastor James Brown Jr discusses the essence of hypocrisy. The American Church—Catholic and Protestant, Arminian and Reformed, libertine and legalist—is plagued by hypocrisy. We are the very same hypocrites Jesus confronted in His earthly ministry. Unless we repent and turn back to God in sincerity and truth our hypocritical self-righteousness will be our ruiin. The wrath of God is being poured out upon us and the glory of the Lord has departed from us. We are Ichabod. Repent or perish!
COVID-19: Introduction

COVID-19: Introduction

2020-04-1720:26

After a long hiatus, Standing Firm is back to talk about COVID-19 and all the related topics from a Reformed perspective. In this series of podcasts, we will discuss the Biblical, Reformed, and historical standards, principles, and precedent to determine how we should respond to the present crisis.
In this podcast we take a break from our Defending Calvinism Series to focus on some divisive and controversial issues that are weakening and tearing down the Church. In this episode of Standing Firm we deal with one of these examples. This weekend there is a virtual event being called “A Call to the Holy - A Time of Mourning,” being led by some very heretical and unqualified teachers. This edition of Standing Firm is geared to inform and warn against heresies and heretics that being brought into the Church.
In this episode we continue with our third installment of the Defending Calvinism Series and our second podcast on Total Depravity. We have been reviewing a series of videos by Matthew Stucky of Verity Baptist Church in Manila. The reason why we are reviewing Mr. Stucky's videos, called Exposing Calvinism Clips, is to show the danger of the New IFB Movement and to defend the Biblical doctrines of grace. This New IFB Movement is the natural end of the historical libertine heresy. It is corrupt and heretical, but it is also the common arguments against Calvinism that you will be confronted with in society. Please consider helping this ministry by financially supporting Reformed Church of the Holy Trinity.
Join Pastor James Brown Jr as he defends the doctrines of grace against the attacks of Matthew Stucky of Verity Baptist Church Manila. This series will be broke up into 5 subgroups following the TULIP acronym. In the first part of this series we will deal with the doctrine of Total Depravity. This first episode refutes the New IFB doctrine of "normal, common, everyday unsaved people" as presented by Matthew Stucky. Don't miss this series as we assault the gates of hell with the gospel of Jesus Christ!
During 2019, Standing Firm will be defending Calvinism from the Biblical eisegesis and outlandish charges of the New IFB Movement. Specifically, we will be reviewing a series of videos by Pastor Matthew Stucky of Verity Baptist Church Manila. In his series he presents a refutation of Calvinism following the acronym TULIP as his outline for the series. This episode is the introduction to our series as we give an answer to Mr. Stucky's slanderous assault against the Doctrines of Grace.
No Truth, No Justice

No Truth, No Justice

In this episode of Standing Firm, Pastor James Brown Jr reviews some statements by Pastor Tim Keller concerning The Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel. We live in a strange time when words have  no meaning, but they do have legs. Pastor Keller has stated that we should not look at the words but at what they do as if they can grow limbs and jump off the page into action. We are seeing the effects of Postmodernism on the Church. Everything is being deconstructed to the point of meaningless. When there is no meaning there is no truth; and where there is no truth there can be no justice.
In this episode of Standing Firm, Pastor James Brown Jr discusses some erroneous doctrinal motto’s like “no creed but the Bible,” “Christianity is a relationship and not a religion,” and the idea that we need to focus on original intent to the avoidance of Scripture. Whether it is Andy Stanley’s unhitching of the Old Testament, Lauren Daigle’s “Losing My Religion,” or cultural activists focusing on a phony idea of original intent, this episode confronts the modern heretical slide into apostasy.

When Everyone is a Teacher

Beginning as early as the 19th Century, Modernism has worked to destroy the distinction of clergy and laity. This work is being continued by Postmodernism in the 21st Century and the results are devastating. We are witnessing the complete dismantling and deconstruction of Christianity in America. In this episode, Pastor Brown shows the insanity of the individualistic and autonomous deconstruction movement by reviewing a Live Stream session from the Reconstructionist Radio Discussion Page on Facebook. When everyone is a teacher the order, peace, quietness, and unity of the Church is destroyed.

There is a great egalitarian effort underway to level God's creation and decrees. The Socialists have been pushing there agenda for over a century, but most Christians have not had to actively deal with this philosophy. Today, these socialist ideals are infecting the conservative Christianity and we cannot hide our heads in the sand any longer. Therefore, in this episode we go right to the source of the feminist infiltration into faith and religion and review an episode of Faith Makers titled "Can Faith and Feminism Coexist?"
The LGBTQ+ movement has been legitimized all through out our society. Conservative Indiana is no exception. From urban to rural regions the "gay" agenda has been accepted. So what are we to do?
