Host Elly Higgins is joined by astrologer Duna Haller to discuss disco legend Sylvester! Known for his hit song You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) and incredible falsetto singing, Sylvester left an undeniable mark on disco. Elly and Duna talk about Sylvester's gender bending style, the role of his 11th house ascendant ruler in group performances, and the pressures and creativity of planets in fall.

For our Leo season episode, host Elly Higgins discusses novelist, essayist, and civil rights activist James Baldwin! Born 100 years ago, Baldwin’s writing on race and sexuality feels as contemporary today as when it was published. Baldwin exemplified his Leo Sun through his capacity to shine light on his own experiences.

Happy Capricorn Full Moon!
On the eve before a full moon in Capricorn in 1969, the Stonewall Rebellion began in Greenwich Village, NY. Now arguably the most famous moment in queer history, Stonewall would spark major changes for the queer community.
This Cancer season episode gets into what happened on the night of June 28th, what are the different stories around Stonewall that get told, and what in the astrology can help us understand the myth and importance of Stonewall as the birth of the gay liberation (or gay rights) movement?
This episode only scratches the surface of the astrology of Stonewall but gets into Stonewall's Aries Rising, Mars retrograde as the ascendant ruler and how outer planetary shifts could be the key in understanding why Stonewall became so important.

Stonewall: The Riots That Sparked The Gay Revolution
Two episodes for Gemini season? It is the sign of the twins after all!
To celebrate one whole year of Star Gays (and pride!), host Elly Higgins is joined by Jordan and Brook of the gay astro podcast Gemidyke Rising to discuss Dyke TV, a public access television show from the 90s whose motto was to Incite, Subvert, Provoke, and Organize for lesbian visibility and survival. Dyke TV was a variety show about all aspects of lesbian life that grew out of the Lesbian Avengers, with segments like 'Dyke Dish', 'Ann Northrop Mouths Off', and 'I Was A Lesbian Child.'
In this episode, Jordan, Brook, and Elly talk about what it was like to watch Dyke TV 30 years later (spoiler: nothing has changed - including the outfits) and then get into Dyke TV's 7th house Gemini Sun, Jupiter in Libra on the MC, and so much more.
*The audio for this episode was edited by KJ Jarboe. (Thank you, KJ!)

Gemidyke Rising is a queer astrology pod for the curious and chaotic. Jordan and Brook navigate monthly transits as they relate to pop culture and the gay agenda.

Star Gays is ringing in a beautiful New Moon in Gemini with a very special episode - the one year anniversary of Star Gays. Astrologer Michael J Morris joins host Elly Higgins to discuss trans activist and writer Lou Sullivan. Sullivan is thought to be the first publicly identified gay transgender man and his work and advocacy has helped to define our current understandings of gender and sexuality, removed barriers in accessing transgender medical care, and laid the ground work for trans peer support groups to flourish.
In this episode Michael and Elly discuss queer astrology, what it means to have a chosen family lineage, and then using Sullivan's diary as a guide, get into his Gemini Sun, Mercury, and Mars as indicators of the role of communication, writing, and mentorship in his life. Then Michael shares their research on the secondary progressed moon phases with Sullivan's chart!

As Taurus season wraps up, Star Gays is back to talk about Barbara Hammer: an important voice in lesbian and experimental filmmaking. Astrologer Elly Higgins talks about Hammer’s relationship to the politics of abstraction, the queerness of experimental form, and the importance actively engaging an audience. We use the work of Dr. Ali Olomi and Kira Ryberg to discuss the bounds and decans of Taurus and get into the details of the fixed earth sign.

Aries Season came in swinging with eclipses and a Mercury retrograde but science fiction writer and literary/social critic Samuel Delany is an excellent example of embodying Aries boldness and urgency that we can look to in this astro mess. Astrologer Elly Higgins discusses Delany’s Aries Sun and Rising, his Mars in Gemini, and Moon in Libra using Delany’s conception of Contact and Networking as a guide.
Then we use annual profections and solar return charts to assess some important high points and low points in Delany’s life.

Aquarius season is here and in this episode of Star Gays, film critic Caden Mark Gardener joins host Elly Higgins to talk about filmmaker Kenneth Anger. Anger's 1947 film Fireworks is thought to be the first narrative gay film in the United States. Anger made almost 40 short films, exploring themes of desire, homoeroticism, and the occult. He was a follower of Aleister Crowley, an outsider in Hollywood, and he was born on an Aquarius New Moon.

Happy new year! In 2024, Star Gays will be following the sun as it transits through the signs of the zodiac. Each month I will feature a Star Gay who has their sun in the sign of the season and to start us off we're going to talk about Capricorn goat Susan Sontag.
Sontag was a novelist, cultural critic, and public intellectual. Sontag embodied Capricorn's serious, determined, and melancholic nature. Her Capricorn and Virgo stelliums worked together to give her a sharp tongue and biting wit. In this episode we really break down the archetypes of Capricorn and Virgo.

On today's episode of Star Gays: The Queer Astrology Archives Podcast, we are going to do a deep dive into the chart of Marxist feminist scholar/activist Angela Davis. Davis has been a life-long activist and scholar, drawing connections between racism, capitalism, sexism, and abolition. We look to her Taurus rising as well as her Aquarius Sun and Moon to understand Davis' relationship to communism, capitalism, and the structures that create the conditions for oppression and liberation.
Then we use Secondary Progressions to map out the chapters of her life.

Welcome back to Star Gays!
Today’s episode is part two on the Compton Cafeteria Riots. We dive into the astrology of August 1966 to try to narrow down an exact date for the riots. In part one we looked at the astrology of the July 18th picket that proceeded the riots but in today’s episode we dive into that Uranus Pluto conjunction more and talk about Venus Mars and Jupiter’s collective movement through Cancer.

On today’s episode of Star Gays we are doing something a little different. We are going to look at the astrology of an event in queer history - the Compton Cafeteria Riots in San Francisco in 1966.
The Compton Cafeteria Riots were an early instance of queer and trans radical response to police harassment and discrimination. They were largely forgotten until historian Susan Stryker found a pamphlet referencing them in the early 2000s. In this episode we look at the larger planetary cycles that correspond with the riots and the events that led up to them. This episode is part one. Part two coming soon!

Happy Cancer Season!
On this episode of Star Gays we are going to do a deep dive into the chart of activist Sylvia Rivera. Rivera was a gay liberation and transgender rights activist as well as community organizer in New York City in the years immediately following the Stonewall riots.
We talk about Sylvia’s Cancer Sun and the archetype of the mother, we look at her Sun Uranus conjunction as both revolutionary and divisive, and we explore how that Mars-Saturn-Chiron T-square tells a painful but important story. (And more!!)

Dean Spade - Normal Life
Dean Spade - Mutual Aid
David Wojnarowicz was one of the most influential artists of his generation. He was a painter, photographer, writer, and HIV/AIDS activist who lived and worked in the East Village until his death from AIDSrelated complications in 1992. In this episode we’ll look at David’s astrology to see how his 12th house Sun, Libra rising, and exalted Jupiter created the conditions for his passionate, righteous art to thrive while his Aries Moon and Capricorn Mars caused some problems in his personal life.
