Starlight Thursdays Episode 216 welcome back Mimsy! This mix is from my headlining set at Rainbowdrip. This was my birthday set, which made for a very memorable night. I included a few original and unreleased tracks as well as some of my favorite bangers. This mix starts with midtempo, flows into some heavy bass, then brings it back with high energy. This is the studio version of the live set. Photo Credit: Nick Rogers Insta: @pho.tonicgraphy
Starlight Thursdays Episode 215 Welcome Mr Matthew to the series! Originally from northern Georgia he made the move to Montana around 10 years ago. After going to a small house party entertained by a dj he fell in love with mixing and knew what he wanted to get into. His passion for this culture and our community stood out to me. I invited him to join the Starlight Reunion admin team shortly after we got to know each other. He has so much ambition to not only throw parties but inspire safe spaces to let loose in. I’m beyond overjoyed to share this recording of his. Not only is it the first in our series, but it’s also the first recording he’s made public. You may have heard him play at Bassmonsters , FC5, Montambhla/CMMF and the club nights at the Zebra and Monks. If not you’ll have the chance to catch him live at Montopia or his passion project Everland. He’s gone above and beyond booking shows for our resident artists and community. This summer is looking absolutely stacked and we owe a bunch of that to Mr Matthew. -BK Love- DJing and dance parties are very therapeutic to me. It’s how I managed getting through my divorce. It led me to my true soulmate. Knowing the connections that are being made and the happiness being spread while I play is so rewarding and fulfilling. I love being part of the SR fam and what we represent. Super excited to see where we are in 5 years as a whole. There is so much going on in the group! I couldnt be more proud of all the folks that are a part of our crew! It’s been busy times for our group, proud to see it coming together. Starlight is really helping expand my music opportunities and skill set and im truly grateful. The access to knowledge, gear, and connections has been priceless and just want you to know theres a reason ive been wearing my SR shirt every time i play, I’m so proud of that logo, what it represents and who is part of it. It’s like a badge of honor. Hope you enjoy this mix and looking forward to seeing y’all on the dance floor. - Mr Matthew -
Starlight Thursdays Episode 214 featuring a live recording from BK Love's recent visit to Building Wo-Man at the Jenkstar Ranch in the deep deserts of Utah. This was my first time checking out the burner rave scene in Utah. I’ve been hearing about the legendary desert raves out there for over decade and had yet to experience it for myself. It was like i stumbled across an encampment of burners that broke down on the voyage home from the big burn and just decided to stay. Art cars and big sound systems surround by canyon cliffs and painted dunes adorned with big permenent sculptures, domes and wooden buildings seemingly put together from piles of junk and found objects. It was fucking perfect. I felt fortunate to make some new friends with a sound system and love for House and Techno. They called themselves Dirt camp. After dancing from one party to another they invited me to play a daytime set at their bus. We busted a move on the dirt floor in the sunshine and couldn’t be happier. Hope you guys enjoy this mix as much as we did! Love y’all - BK Love -
Starlight Thursdays Episode 213 Welcome WAY ØUT to the series! We put together a short interview to get to know a little more about them. How long have you been DJing?  2 years Why did you get into it? Attended an Illenium festival at the Gorge in Washington and saw John Summit and James Hype in Vegas, and knew that I wanted to pursue DJing, and hopefully make a career out of it. What events have you played? I have played several birthday parties, as well as a couple times at Bozeman bars(Pour House, Bar IX, and Rocking R). My favorite set I played was at the Club Zebra for an open deck night. Where do you live?  Bozeman, MT Where are you from originally? Breckenridge, CO What inspires you to DJ?  I love to bring music to people, and play songs that people love and enjoy. I also am very passionate when I perform my sets. I strive to get everyone around me engaged with the music, and give people a fun and memorable experience that they will always remember and find happiness in for years to come. What inspires you about electronic music culture? The camaraderie of electronic music is so inspiring, as it is so inclusive. It gives me, as well as many others, an escape from the hustle and stress of the world, and allows for me to let go and just enjoy the company of like minded people. What genres are in your mix?  Stutter House, Alternative, Melodic House, and EDM A few words about your mix?   This mix is a compilation of many songs and artists that have impacted my life in so many ways. It is meant to be a journey through a handful of genres and electronic music styles that represent my passion and love for electronic music and simply music as a whole. Whether it be an artist original, or a remix of a popular nostalgic hip hop song. I also try to incorporate different mixing styles, from Fred again..’s complex and thorough mixes, to John Summit’s classic festival style mixes. Thank you to everyone at Starlight Reunion for giving me this opportunity to share my mix and dj skills with the world! I really hope this mix takes off and that this won’t be the last mix I make for you all! - WAY ØUT - For More WAY ØUT check out https://soundcloud.com/user-683273936?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
Starlight Thursdays Episode 212 featuring Red Velvet in this live recording from Tech the House at The Zebra in Bozeman. This was the opening night of our soon to be residency led by artist PRICERIGHT. He was keen to kick it off with a bang and who better to fan the flames of the dance floor than Lady Red Velvet. We cherish Lady Red Velvet! Always inspired to bust a move when she’s on the decks! When this mix leaves you wanting more, check her out on episodes 186,184,45 or on their SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/amarie-2?ref=clipboard&p=i&c=0&si=93ED4112523742DEB1533897EEF952B2&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

Starlight Thursdays Episode 210 Featuring a live recording from GETDOWN, Mixed in The Senvion celebrating BK Love and PRICERIGHT’s birthdays. It’s always special when we get our art collective together and dance the night away. This mix is a testament to these moments we cherish so much. I met GETDOWN on my birthday in 2017. When he arrived I was behind the decks mixing for a small group of close friends. He said something like “would it be okay if I played a few tracks?” I was like “dude I’m the only dj here. It would be amazing to bust a move! Play as many as you want!” He ripped it up playing from my collection and on gear he’d never even seen before. It was one of the best birthday gifts ever. Starlight Reunion wasn’t even a year old at the time. I had so much to learn and GETDOWN was right there doing his best to teach me what he knew about the local scene, gas generators and sound systems. He was a pretty pivotal part of getting things up and going as well as giving me the confidence to lead the gatherings. Although some of you don’t really know him in this capacity, he continues to be a voice of reason behind the scenes when things get a bit wild. His drive for this culture and community seems to only be growing in the best direction as he continues to build stages and provide space for these experiences. It was so amazing to get to bust a move to his set on my birthday again. Hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did. -BK Love- cover photo - GETDOWN DJing the first Forest Creatures

Starlight Thursdays Episode 208 featuring PRICERIGHT! He’s been keeping busy slinging beats from Bozeman to Billings and beyond. When he’s not behind the decks he’s behind the scenes helping to organize DJs and stages for summer music festivals and in town parties. We appreciate everything he’s been bringing to the scene as well as this featured mix. - BK Love -
Starlight Thursdays Episode Episode 207 featuring MumbleBee TSB2DJsWaLB2BI Pandaura (that's a new slang that/acronym which means transitioning smoothly between 2 djs with a little b2b inbetween) Commonly shortened to "-->" last year MumbleBee and Pandaura played a lot together, including two new years ago, so I couldn't imagine a better way to end the year and to kick off what was ultimately an amazing party. Conversation between MumbleBee and pandaura. Going b2b with you feels so natural, Pandaura. “Yes I agree MumbleBee!” “Now that I think about, we played b2b at least a little bit, and sometimes for like 6 hours, at every event I even DJed last year lol”. “Wow damn you're right! From bar balconies to burning man! And every missoula basement inbetween!” This mix is filled with fantastic beats that hop from house to drum and bass. Starting with MumbleBee then moving to a b2b session with Pandaura before he took it to the end. It’s always special when we remember to hit record and capture the moment sonically. This one brings me right back to this magic moment when we stood on the edge of 2023 knowing there’d be something new on the horizon for us all.
Starlight Thursdays Episode 206. We’re excited to share This live recording of CHADDABOX!!! Mixed on the fly, NYE 2023-2024 at the Beirstube, Whitefish Mountain Resort (Big Mountain). He packs a punch filled with the kinda House that keeps the dance floor buzzing! This is a high-energy mix of some of my favorite tunes collected over the years. Hope you enjoy. - Chaddabox - For more of Chaddabox’s beats check out https://on.soundcloud.com/x3oBZYdDrZrEa3wQA
Starlight Thursdays Episode 205 featuring PARRIS. This mix delivers a bumping house vibe from start to finish. Composed of mostly vocal heavy bass house tracks that PARRIS edited first in Ableton to make smoother transitions without the vocals of both the songs clashing. He caught our ears with the previous recording he sent us and I gotta say I think this is another banger you’re sure to enjoy. For more PARRIS check out https://on.soundcloud.com/wKgQ325PdTGoBUmZ8
Starlight Thursdays Episode 204 featuring BeKBee. The combination of BK Love back to back with MumbleBee. This mix was recorded live in Tulum Mexico at Buuts Ha Cenote Club. This was my first time traveling in a group of friends. 7 of our Starlight Reunion collective rallied to the call to head south. Katie C and I explored Tulum the year prior. We started off at a jungle rave put together by a Burning Man Camp that went well past sunrise. It was located at a Cenote (a natural pit, or sinkhole filled with fresh water) surrounded by dense forest. The following night we found ourselves at a beach club that looked like a massive teepee, with large concrete sculptures of human hands at its perimeter. That same night we ended up in the city center at a rooftop club and kept dancing. I had the realization that there were three or four different kinds of places DJed parties were taking place in Tulum. The Cenotes, the beach and city center, jungle too but cenotes are in the jungle anyway so I don’t know. I started calling it the Tulum dance party trifecta and felt like it’s probably a thing already. My intrigue with Mexico’s dance capital has been persistent. I did my best to inspire some of my friends who I thought would appreciate the unique complexity of this place. I felt it would be a good experience for us to get out of the country and explore art. After a few days of touring around as a crew we began to get acclimated. We started making new friends with the same love for music and dancing we have. I was pretty sure we had to do the Tulum Dance Party Trifecta! I certainly didn’t think we’d get to DJ it, nor was it my intention to figure out how. The universe works in crazy fucking ways. With the help of the new friends we made, more than what we imagined came to be. There’s no way I can explain it all here. I’m still trying to fully comprehend it. I can say this much though. To me this mix is a testament to what is possible when we put ourselves out there and are open to sharing with one another. We took a trip not really knowing what to expect or if we packed all the right things. Not only seeking sun mid winter, but looking for an experience. We didn’t travel all that way to make it all about us and our desires or needs. We took a moment out of our lives to connect with people, to share our curiosity for one another and learn each other’s ways and rhythms. - BK Love -
Starlight Thursdays Episode 203 welcome back Grimydimnd. She’s put together a set that covers a bunch of genres from Tech House to Dubstep. Get ready for a roller coaster of BPM! “Just been really into techno the last few months. I don’t feel like I really can stick to a style for to long. This is a fun mix of some new songs I’ve downloaded recently. It’s rough in some areas but just a fun time. When I play dance music I go for a silly atmosphere that fits my taste and adding some unexpected moments. I’m throwing a dirty 30 party at the zebra club in Bozeman March 27th with some friends. Stop by for a multi genre night and stay for the cozy attire!” 🫶 - Grimydimnd - For more Grimydimnd check out https://on.soundcloud.com/oqzmCcuXTmHCZACe7
Starlight Thursdays Episode 202 Welcome Madam Bliss to the series! With over 18 years of DJing she’s enjoyed entertaining dance floors at music festivals such as Emissions, Burning Man, Nights of Fire, Rock the Resort, Crystal Mountain and many, many more. This artist, remixer, producer and DJ thrives off the edm bass music scene. She is known to mix all different types of Bass music together to form her own unique sound. Her roots are breakbeats, house, jungle and hip hop. She grew up as a house dancer turned breakdancer who was compelled by the beat. Her roots also run deep with Reggae and dancehall. Over the years a deep love for Dubstep, Drum and Bass and Trap Music formed. Anything Bass heavy and soulful that evokes good feelings is her kind of style. She has released a bunch of tracks. Her work has appeared on We Got This Music, Street Ritual, Shadowtrix, BKoast, Pinecone Moonshine and other labels. . She has been playing guitar and keys since childhood. If your lucky you may even catch her doing one of her breakdance performances in between mixing and scratching! Let’s take a closer look in a little interview with Madam Bliss. Why did you get into DJing and music production? I love to dance and I'm addicted to good beats. Where do you currently live? Whitefish, Montana. Is that where you’re from originally? No, Media, Pennsylvania(outside of Philadelphia). What inspires you to DJ? Heavy and feel good bass vibrations with soothing intricate and dance worthy sounds. What inspires you about electronic music culture? It inspires me in all aspects of life. I love the feeling when there is a big group of people that come together to share the love of a certain type of music. I love meeting awesome people and working with them on new music or dance moves. It inspires me to be more creative and to move my body in new ways. The energy in electronic music really matches my personality and it inspires me to go further in life. What genres are in your mix? Rooted Dubstep, Bass music, Baltimore Club, Trap, reggae. Can you tell us a little bit about it? This mix was deeply inspired by rooted dubstep and bass music. My 2 favorite genres of music. Now that I live here in Montana in the mountains, it has given me the clarity to really dive into what moves me as an artist and DJ. One of my favorite eras of DJing is when I spun dubstep back in 2009. I made an all vinyl mix called DuBlissious with my favorite hand picked records. Still one of my favorite mixes. This is a continuation of that mix, I even reinvented some of the mixes from the first edition. This mix has a lot of melodic feels with deep bass lines delivered in the most beautiful of transitions. I took old school rooted dubstep and mixed it with more present day basslines, keeping it locked around 140bpm. I carried reggae sounding beats throughout. The beauty of these tunes have put me in a trance when I listen back to this mix, really taking the listener on a journey. This mix includes some of my most favorite 140bpm tunes I’ve produced myself as well as brand new production that I have yet to release. It also includes some of my favorite tunes that really moved me by other amazing producers. Who are some of the artists in your mix? Cimm, Shlump, Nahlith, Oz, Hamdi, Rakjay, Substrada, Vaski, The Maker, Eva808, Wildabeast, 6Blocc, Madam Bliss, Headland, Merricat Black, Skinny Limbs, G-space, Subscape, Matty G, Tiedye Ky, Pipus, Tsou, Kursa, Hexed X Labs, Chief Kaya, Synkro, MRK1, DJ Sliink, Scuba, M!ngo. We’re so glad you shared this mix with us. This one is a special addition to the series and overall fire set. Anything else you want us to know? I want you to know that you are amazing for giving DJs and producers in Montana the chance to share their music with like minded people. I truly appreciate you and your crew!!! Starlight Thursdays Episode 200!!we have a very special recoding to share for this milestone. Our resident artist MumbleBee recently released their first ep. We featured them in an album release party and hit record as they preformed their first “all original set” composed from tracks on their ep as well as unreleased music they recently produced. It’s been amazing having MumbleBee join our art collective and we couldn’t be more proud to showcase their talent and art. They have been behind the Dj decks since 2020 and have performed in a multitude of settings, from Missoula pride to Anaconda Pride, Mountain tops and Bars, Rock quarries, Forests down to Basements like The Senvion where this was recorded. Originally from Kalamazoo Michigan they fell in love with Burner culture and electronic music. After moving to Missoula we quickly adopted them into our art collective, community and family. Let’s take a closer look into the deep complexities that are MumbleBee. How long have you been Producing: - in a DAW? Maybe a year and a half. In general? My entire life ;3 Why did you get into it? I enjoy the manipulation of sounds, and the tactile response feeling of a mixing board. Being the center of attention every now and again is nice too. :p [Producing] I went into this EP curious about sound - what it is, how it works, what do all the little acronyms mean? - I finished this EP with more questions than answers - and a curiosity that has evolved since into fascination. What inspires you? It can be anything -- a color, an emotion, places I visit, people, my friends, etc. Machines, socialist machines, machine/human cooperation Please tell us a little bit about this recording? This is my EP, Kindergarten, a few months post release, and other works I have completed or partially completed since then. All of the songs within are made from my hands, filled with the love and encouragement from my family and friends. Please enjoy :3 Tracklist: Catmosphere Coming Online The Man in Black Wewowewa BeeBahBooBeeBop Nap Time Machines Socialist Sky and Machine City (Formerly Chef Boldgloom) Breath Breaker BommBohmBeemBum RyeHeartAndrzej For more MumbleBee check out https://soundcloud.com/mumble_b33 Bandcamp: https://mumblebeew33b.bandcamp.com/album/kindergarten
Starlight Thursdays Episode 199. Welcome SPACE CHUNK to the series! He’s been behind the booth for the past 9 years. You may have had the pleasure of hearing him play at Forest Creatures 6, a few open decks and house parties around Bozeman. Let’s take a closer look into the world of SPACE CHUNK Why did you get into it? Growing up in Minneapolis I was a midwest hip hop head and was introduced to the turntablist/beats side of DJing. Artists like DJ Abilities and Ant were big inspirations with a focus on sample based mixing and scratching on top of drum loops. When I moved to Bozeman in 2013 I got introduced to bass music by taking road trips up to Missoula to see a show and then driving back to Bozeman before class started the next day. At the time we really didn't know what we were doing but we were seeing these insane artists like Excision, Pretty Lights, Zeds Dead, and Odesza in venues like the Wilma and Tophat. After one of those shows I remember my friends and I downloading a cracked version of Ableton and started making mix tapes as a way to share music. Learning the basics of Ableton opened the door to producing and I eventually got into making my own tracks. Following those artists we saw at the Wilma; I ended up attending Shambhala 2015 for my first camping music festival, which gave me an introduction to festival culture and dance focused DJing. After my first Shambhala I bought my first DJ controller and ever since then DJing and producing have been my main creative outlets. What inspires you about electronic music? From an artistic standpoint I love the act of combining sounds to make something new. Like a classic liquid track might make me feel nostalgic and a modern tech-step track might make me feel groovy. What happens when I play them back to back, or double drop them together? I might end up with some new sound more complex than either song by itself. I think every sound has the ability to trigger a memory or idea, and I really try to lean into that when mixing songs together. What inspires you about electronic music culture? I love the insane amount of effort and creativity that goes into every event. From the organizers to the attendees, everyone is always giving it 100%. Also the culture of extreme acceptance is awesome. Tell us about your mix?   I start it off with my newest original remix, and then dive into a compilation of the floatiest DnB songs I've been able to find over the last year or so. I have a process where I'll freestyle a quick mix and then listen to the mix on a bike, ski, or drive making note on what tracks and combos fit the vibe of what I'm doing. This mix is sort of the "best of" from all those mixes and is my best interpretation of road tripping and recreating around Western Montana. Lots of funk, soul, and hip hop influence, with a backbone of DnB rollers and deep bass. Inspired by Diesel Boy, DownLink, and Alan Flava. For more SPACE CHUNK check out https://soundcloud.com/spacechunk
Starlight Thursdays Episode 198 DJ Slacks is back with a beautiful deep house mix. Filled with groves, funky beats and all together smooth How long have you been DJing? 5 years this year!! Why did you get into it? There is nothing better than playing a show with your friends and watching the crowd move. Missoula keeps me doing it. What events have you played? Summer Roller Boogies, Monks Bar, Badlander,The Furnace, The sidewalk outside the Wilma, Daisychain Events, Funk of July, Suite Two Where are you from? Los Angeles, CA What genres are in this mix? Techno, House, Afrohouse, Electronica Can you tell us a bit about your mix? I made this mix New Years Day, as soon as I got home from celebrating another journey around the calendar. I wasn’t ready to sleep as I wanted to watch the sunrise and reflect on 2023. I thought about the ups and downs, highs and lows. I thought about how grateful I was for the community surrounding me. It sounds silly but I imagined myself as a bowling ball, being bounced back and forth off the bumpers as I slowly rolled down the lane. Lots of ups, lots of downs, lots of side to side. But I never hit the gutter.. I think this mix reflects 2023 for me in that way. Lots of ups and downs, happy times, sad times, with introspective bumpers in between to keep you in a forward motion towards the pins. Hitting all pins isnt the goal…you can hit the gutter and the ball comes right back to you, ready for you to roll down the lane again and give it your best.
