State of the Arts is a weekly 30-minute program focusing on the arts community of El Paso. Hosted by dedicated art enthusiast Marina Monsisvais, State of the Arts provides listeners with a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how creativity is shaping our community. Marina interviews local visual artists, writers, dancers, singers, actors and directors, as well as regional talent exhibiting or performing in El Paso. The show gets to the heart of what inspires and drives artists to do what they love best.

The El Paso Symphony Orchestra, led by its dynamic conductor Bohuslav Rattay, will perform the famous fifth symphonies by two brilliant composers - Beethoven and Shostakovich. There is a new public art piece inspired by water on El Paso’s westside. The work is titled “Unity,” and was created by El Paso artist, Laura Turon. The piece was commissioned by the City of El Paso’s Museums and Cultural Affairs department.

Joe Amaro has been a graphic designer for more than 20 years and has worked in the toy industry for just as long. He’s worked with most major toy companies like Jazwares, Mattel and Hasbro and with many design studios like Boss Fight Studios, Super7 and the Four Horsemen Toy Studio. Recently he was hired by a toy company called Fresh Monkey Fiction to help design action figures, one of which is a Mexican American soldier named El Toro who is made in the likeness of, you guessed it…Mr. Joe Amaro!

Jorge is a multi-faceted photographer who specializes in everything from portraits to sports to live events to landscapes. Each year, he releases a calendar of beautiful El Paso images. Cult studios is hosting an artist holiday market featuring the works of over 20 artists. The market takes place from 1 to 5pm on Saturday December 4, 2021 and will have original gifts such as hats, jewelry, printmaking ceramics, clothing, glass and more, all made by a local artists.
Once again it is time for A Christmas Carol en La Frontera, an original adaptation of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic. The production is staged through December 19, 2021 at the Wise Family Theater at UTEP. This holiday ghost story is filled with thrills and chills, but is also a tale of family, solitude, and redemption, with the unique flavor of the border.
Border Art Residency artist Bella Maria Varela will debut a new exhibition titled La Xingada Vol. 3 , at the Border Art Residency headquarters at 801 N. Piedras in Five Points. This show is an immersive exhibition combining textile and video work by Bella Maria Varela with papier mâché masks by Xingaderas (Manuel Urueta and Celina Galicia).
Season 1: Episode 4, The One with all the Squares is a group exhibition featuring the works of 48 artists from El Paso and beyond. The show is on display at the El Paso Frame Co. through December 23rd.
