"When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen." -- Ernest Hemingway We live in a society where world leaders underestimate how rapid, serious and permanent ecological breakdown will be if humanity fails to mobilize climate action in the short and long term. The Earth system has reached its tipping points at a breath-taking speed. And climate scientists and researchers face insurmountable public communication challenges than the astronomers in Don’t Look Up. Decades of awareness-raising and initiatives to engage the public has displayed that climate change doesn’t communicate itself. Growing scientific evidence suggests that there are challenges to how we communicate climate change to various audiences and stakeholders. This podcast gives you a glimpse into the world of two amazing climate communication experts who have over a decade of experience in the science and the art of climate change communications. They share their ideas about communication, what needs to be done in order to set things in motion for climate actions. "Part of the secret of success is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside” – Mark Twain World Bank 2020 report found that nearly 690 million people—or 8.9 per cent of the global population—are hungry, up by nearly 60 million in five years. The food security challenge will only become more difficult, as the world will need to produce about 70 per cent more food by 2050 to feed an estimated 9 billion people. Climate change threatens our ability to ensure global food security, eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from human activity and livestock are a significant driver of climate change, trapping heat in the earth’s atmosphere and triggering global warming. Climate change’s negative impacts are already being felt, in the form of increasing temperatures, weather variability, shifting agroecosystem boundaries, invasive crops and pests, and more frequent extreme weather events. The podcast gives you a perspective on the challenges faced by the agriculture sector’s extreme vulnerability to climate change and the solutions measures one can undertake for mitigation and adaptation. Also, what a net-zero future means for the agriculture sector. The podcast is a collaboration between, The Stepwell Radio and the Global Centre for Environment and Energy at Ahmedabad University.
