SBW 206: A Lowe blow

In a sickening consecutive home defeat, the Rams are sunk by a 94th minute Jamal Lowe strike gives Sheffield Wednesday a first Pride Park win for 18 years. Chris, Richard, Anton and Phil - in an in-person podcast - give their immediate reactions to the late defeat and ask if Derby are now looking over their shoulder, standing just three points above the bottom three with tough fixtures to come. We also discuss the return of Frank Lampard to the Championship fold, and 'look forward' to the Rams gruelling festive fixture list. Learn more about your ad choices. SBW At The Match: Stoke City (H)

In our final regular podcast of 2024/25, join Chris and Cutch for a real-time matchday pod recorded before, during and after Derby's final day showdown against Stoke City. A day which started out with permutations, nerves and trepidation ended with mass relief as Luton's capitulation vs West Brom meant the Rams' goalless draw with the Potter secured their Championship status. We also reflect on the phenomenal recovery job John Eustace has pulled off, in saving a Derby side who were bottom of the Championship and seven points adrift in early March, before discussing our best and worst moments of the campaign... and early ambitions for 2025/26. SBW 215: Warne out... Eustace in?

After 871 days and 132 games, the Paul Warne era at Derby County is over. Chris, Anton and Ollie Wright discuss the highs and lows of Warne's two and a half years at Pride Park, and pay tribute to one of the few managers who's actually managed to get the Rams promoted out of any division. We also look back on the draw at Norwich, where Derby finally ended their losing streak - although there wasn't a huge amount different tactically. There was plenty to be excited about with the debut of Sondre 'Dolph Lundgren' Langas, and cause for optimism if the Rams world class disallowed goal was anything to go by. Then there's 'The Eust'. How would the managerial approach of Derby's former midfield enforcer be different to that of Paul Warne? Is £750k a fee worth paying for a manager? And how many players can we remember from his last ever game as a professional? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

SBW 214: Deadline Day debrief

After Derby's underwhelming recruitment at the end of the January transfer window, Chris, Cutch and Anton assess whether the Rams have really improved their squad from what it was on December 31. We look at new Derby County signings Harrison Armstrong and Sondre Langas, as well as the early signs from the returning Matt Clarke and fellow Norweigan new boy Lars-Jorgen Salvesen, before discussing once again the Rams' sorry run of defeats which could stretch to a new club record with a loss at Norwich in their next fixture. To hear the episode in full and get loads more great DCFC member benefits, support us over at patreon.com/stevebloomerswashing.* In our fourth Roundtable podcast on Patreon, Richard Cutcher hosts three rival Championship fans on SBW to get some opposition takes on the season so far, the battle to beat the drop... and how they rated Derby. We cover highlights of 2024/25 for our fans of Portsmouth, Luton and Sheffield Wednesday, which single player from each others' sides they'd take for their team, predictions for the rest of the season and - crucially - the three teams our panel think will be sent down to League One. Our guests for this Roundtable chat are the returning Jake Smith, Pompey fan and presenter on Portsmouth's Express FM, Luton Town home and away devotee Matt Storey, and Matt Johnson, co-host of the Owls fan podcast 'Wednesday 'Till I Die'. SBW 212: Worn out?

As an exhausted, injury-ravaged Derby County sink into the bottom three, Chris, Cutch and Tom attempt to keep the faith in discussing whether the Rams can pull themselves out of trouble. We analyse the damaging defeat away at Cardiff City and the key points which caused the 2-1 defeat, before addressing the growing unrest over Paul Warne's position - and how bad results may have to be before David Clowes has not choice but to act. There's plenty of transfer news to get stuck in to as well - the possible return of Matt Clarke, an acceptable fee which we'd be happy with from Brighton to lure Eiran Cashin away, Danish unknown Oscar Fraulo... and a goodbye to League One's James Collins. SBW 211: Woodwork woe as Hornets sting

An eighth league defeat in 11 games sees the Rams continue to tumble downwards in the Championship, leaving the Rams squarely in the relegation dogfight we'd all hoped we were just about good enough to avoid. Chris is joined by Phil Hile and Chris Smith to rue the missed chances and intervention of the crossbar against Watford, along with more alarming defending and lack of goal threat. We say goodbye, sweet prince to Tawanda Chirewa (we hardly knew ye), discuss Paul Warne's team selection for the FA Cup exit at Leyton Orient, and hope/pray that incoming 'striking Viking' Lars-Jorgen Salvesen can provide the firepower to steer Derby away from trouble. Also - we try to name every Scandinavian who's ever played for Derby County. GET MORE PODCAST ON PATREON! SBW 210: Sleepwalking towards trouble

Two more defeats on the road see Derby County start 2025 as they finished 2024 - with very little to cheer about away from home. Chris, Cutch and Tom look back on a forgettable trip to Ashton Gate and the 1-0 loss against Bristol City, and ponder whether the starting XI is a side capable of avoiding relegation. We also discuss the defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, have our say on that goal, and wonder whether it's possibly the best strike Derby have ever conceded. Oh, and there's Tom's very belated Christmas quiz. Music credit: Jingle Bells Violin by Zakhar Valaha & Jingle Bells by Mystery Mammal Learn more about your ad choices. SBW 209: WBA win, Leeds loss

As Derby County round off 2024 with a narrow defeat to league leaders Leeds United, Chris, Cutch and Tom look back on a positive pair of festive performances, following the home win over West Brom on Boxing Day. There's praise for Ebou 'The Championship N'Golo Kante' Adams, admiration of Zetterstrom's unorthodox goalkeeping, and enjoyment of Kane Wilson's latest wing back adventures, despite a 1-0 loss to a team probably destined for the Premier League next season. The SBW panel also reflect on Derby owner David Clowes' festive message and the current mood towards manager Paul Warne. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

SBW At The Match: Luton Town (A)

In Derby County's final fixture before Christmas, join Chris Parsons and Phil Hile on a festive journey to Bedfordshire which ultimately ended in more sickening last minute disappointment, as the Rams threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1. There's the inevitable chat about the unique away fan experience at Kenilworth Road, the latest Premier League would-be record breakers of Derby's 11 point record, and all the action recorded in real time from behind the goal in the away end. SBW 207: Four goals with sugar on top

As Derby return to winning ways with a stunning four goal-dismantling of fellow League One promoted side Portsmouth, Chris, Phil and Chris Smith bask in the Rams' biggest win of the season - and wonder if Paul Warne's curious post-match comments after Leeds contributed to Derby's faultless display. We admire the 'penguin feet' of Marcus Harness, Kenzo's ball retention, wonder where we'd be without Ebou, and generally reflect on a much-needed three points after a series of morale-sapping late defeats. We also discuss the return to Leyton Orient for Derby County in the FA Cup next month, Phil on Luton being a 'hole', and a cheeky 'Guess The XI' quiz based on the last time Derby beat Burnley. SBW 205: PNE parity

Richard Cutcher returns from a triumphant cameo making Forest fans look silly on national radio to host our latest pod alongside Tom and Anton, following another Derby 1-1 draw, this time at Deepdale. Was it a case of a point gained or two dropped against the side 21st in the Championship? We also spent a considerable amount of time discussing the advantage rule (trust us on this one), wonder how Derby will cope against Swansea without Jerry Yates, and look at the state of the rest of the division - are there any sides in the second tier who are noticeably over or under-performing? There's also, ofcourse, a recap on Cutch's appearance on 'Football Traitors', a feature on Patrick Kielty's BBC Radio Five Live breakfast show, where he successfully got one over on several Forest fans, and also a cheeky 'Categories' quiz with your host, Anton Martin. SBW 204: Jerry's Bicycle Club

Derby finally end their long overdue wait for an away win in the Championship, thanks to a 2-1 win over Coventry - but aren't able to back it up with another three points following a frustrating 1-1 at Pride Park again Wayne Rooney's Plymouth. Chris, Cutch and Tom discuss the wastefulness on show against the Pilgrims, before assessing the points return from recent games, Jerry Yates' resurgence, Liam Thompson, attendances, and upcoming fixtures. With Paul Warne also now the division's longest-serving manager, we also discuss how far the Rams boss can reasonably take this side, and how important recruitment will be in his future success. SBW 203: Potters Spot Of Bother

Derby County's winless run is stretched to four matches as Stoke City edge a forgettable game 2-1 at the Bet365 Stadium. Chris Parsons, Anton Martin and Phil Hile look back on Derby's latest away day to forget, from Ben Gibson's ridiculous own goal to... Ben Gibson's headed winner minutes later, and ask what the Rams need to do to turn their fortunes around on the road. There are questions asked of Paul Warne's tactics - are we simply too easy for home teams play against? We also look at the individuals - is the Championship proving too much of a step up for some first teamers in this DCFC squad? We also assess Derby's upcoming fixtures, and the magnitude of Wayne Rooney's Plymouth visiting Pride Park - is that an early six-pointer? SBW 200: Admiral Nelson's towering bullet

The Rams return to winning ways in the Championship before the October international break thanks to two equally fantastic goals to see off QPR at Pride Park. In our 200th episode, Richard, Chris, Tom and Anton salute Curtis Nelson's majestic 14 yard header which opening the scoring, whilst crucially clarifying whether it was a 'bullet', 'towering' or 'commanding' header. There's praise too for Marcus Harness and his first Derby goal - has he now played himself into Paul Warne's starting XI? The SBW panel also look once at Jacob Zetterstrom (we're only human...), and assess how he could eventually rank compared to the Rams' best goalkeepers in recent memory. Is the big Swede's distribution an issue for Derby, or something we can overlook given his clear goalkeeping ability? We see out Episode 200 with 'Legacy Number Five-A-Side', in which we all randomly pick five numbers and then decide whose Derby County team would win. Learn more about your ad choices. SBW 199: Canaries get over the line

Derby suffer back-to-back defeats for the first time since returning to the Championship as a 1-0 reverse at Sheffield United is followed by a controversial 3-2 Pride Park defeat to Norwich. Chris is joined by Phil Hile and SBW debutant Joe Gale to look back on those officiating mistakes, while also asking if the linesman blunders covered the fact that the Rams simply could not match Norwich for large parts of the game. There's analysis too of Derby's fixtures so far, and the games coming up. Can we really only judge Warne's side in November or December, when we've played more teams expected to finish lower in the Championship? The SBW panel also discuss the reports of David Clowes seeking new investment into DCFC and how hopeful we are of foreign backing, given Derby's recent experience with attracting investment from abroad. SBW 198: Kenzo KO's Cardiff

As Derby's diminuitive Dutchman Kenzo Goudmijn strikes again to sink Championship bottom club Cardiff City, Richard Cutcher is joined by Chris Smith and Phil Hile to review a third Pride Park league win without conceding, which saw the Rams nestle nicely in the top half of the second tier after five games. There's overdue praise for 'Man of the Match' and Derby's best ever Australian, Callum Elder, discussion on which of Derby's summer signings has impressed most and, yes... that Ebou Adams injury time miss. SBW Meets: Marco Gabbiadini

For many Derby County fans, Marco Gabbiadini was one of their first heroes in the black and white shirt. A big money signing by Arthur Cox in the 1991/92 season, the former Sunderland man spent five seasons at the Baseball Ground, scoring 50 goals and helping the Rams get promoted along the way. To speak to Gabbiadini now, however, is to speak to a former footballer with very different matters on his mind. As well as discussing his favourite moments, least favourite teammates, the 'dirty, smelly' Baseball Ground, and playing under Cox, McFarland and Smith, Marco, now 56, spoke candidly about his own health - having been diagnosed with a heart condition this year which means he's awaiting a triple heart bypass. Chris's chat with Marco is both a nostalgic trip back to the mid-1990s, and also a unique personal insight into the current wellbeing of a hugely popular figure in recent DCFC history.
