The late Bob Shannon (Don Bombard) is featured here in another never-posted anywhere before aircheck from PM drive, sometime in August, 1990. Phil Pepe has his picks for this week’s Yankees and Mets players of the week (so, we know it’s not March, as the recording was labelled), and there are other clues as to […]
Courtesy of Contributor Steven Green, here’s an excellent quality recording of the legendary Ron Lundy, just being himself on 77 WABC. It may be 1980, but WABC is still the top 40 station everyone grew up with. That would change later in the year with the addition of Yankees baseball, which displaced night driver Howard […]
Courtesy of longtime contributor Steven Green, this goes way back to just about the beginning of the Imus in the Morning program on WNBC.
I’m experimenting with creating a premium content “Pay Now” link, so you’ll see a link to pay for the unscoped version.  Paying for unscoped will help this website evolve into a site where visitors can hear the unscoped versions of our airchecks.  Try it.  Donations appreciated. This is a short aircheck. Pip had perhaps one of the strangest voices in radio.
If you were a fan of NYC radio in the early 1970s and want to get a feel for how Top 40 stations sounded in PM Drive, this is the aircheck for you!

Wild Bill Scott was a radio pioneer who was credited with creating the "Z-Rock" Rock Radio Network. He was best known as a radio personality who worked at mainly hard rock stations across the U.S. including Chicago's WLUP and WMET, along with the legendary KROQ "K-Rock" in Los Angeles. He's heard here on the relatively short-lived KFRC AM-FM Oldies simulcast.

The music is true Top 40, and it's all over the place from obscure (by today's standards) slow tunes to hard rock. But, this is how Top 40 sounded at what, arguably, was the peak of AM Top 40 radio.

Top 40 Parody from then 88.1 WTBS (now WMBR) Cambridge. From Contributor Steven Green comes another gem of a recording! Admittedly, the audio quality from this cassette dub from the […]
We’ll let ya in anytime seven to midnight… In the days before Jack-FM, CBS-FM had a number of great Oldies personalities and specialty shows. 1994 was perhaps the middle of […]
