Description

I'm creating podcast episodes offering practical wisdom for everyday life -- solutions to modern human concerns -- informed by the ancient philosophical school of Stoicism popularized by thinkers including Seneca, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius. Improve your quality of life by implementing a strong mental framework informed by Stoic Philosophy!

I explore topics such as gratitude; acceptance; overcoming adversity; finding meaning in life; moderation; dealing with change; friendship; loneliness; and anger.

You're listening to the Stoic Solutions Podcast - practical wisdom for everyday life inspired by the ancient tradition of Stoic Philosophy from Greece and Rome. I'm your host, Justin Vacula. Visit my website at stoicsolutionspodcast.com. This is episode 94 – Thomas Sheedy with Atheists For Liberty. Thomas is the President and Founder of Atheists For Liberty – a 501 (c) 3 non-profit educational organization. Atheists For Liberty's principles include individual liberty, religious freedom, a free exchange of ideas, the Constitution, and secular government. Unlike other atheist groups, Atheists For Liberty openly welcomes libertarians, conservatives, and centrists largely ignored and often stigmatized. Atheists For Liberty is also explicitly against social justice and wokeness championed by many on the political left. I invited Thomas to join me to continue the discussion about injustice from episode 92 with David Silverman and episode 89 with Peter Boghossian. Thomas, Peter, and David show a high degree of courage speaking out against popular opinion and all warn us – as Stoic authors do – about the dangers of crowds and unexamined popular ideas. We recorded our conversation at the end of May. Since then, I've become the Public Relations Manager of Atheists for Liberty and am happy to support their cause. You're listening to the Stoic Solutions Podcast - practical wisdom for everyday life inspired by the ancient tradition of Stoic Philosophy from Greece and Rome. I'm your host, Justin Vacula. This is episode 93 – Leah Goldrick on overcoming sickness. We talk about the current pandemic, how Leah recovered from the disease, and how Stoicism was helpful in her recovery. We recorded our conversation at the end of May during shelter in place in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania – two states we're recording from. Please excuse the slight background noise on Leah's end as I wasn't able to edit all of it! I'm also avoiding the use of a certain virus starting with the letter c, at least in the episode description and title because YouTube is demonatizing content. Find Leah's work at commonsenseethics.com where you can read her blog posts, visit her YouTube channel, and find her on social media. Leah has also authored numerous pieces for modernstoicism.com dating back to 2016. You're listening to the Stoic Solutions Podcast - practical wisdom for everyday life inspired by the ancient tradition of Stoic Philosophy from Greece and Rome. I'm your host, Justin Vacula. This is episode 92 – David Silverman on Injustice. Dave speaks about injustice he sees from the political left adding his personal experience recovering from #metoo allegations he argues are unsubstantiated. Dave also talks about guilt, the danger of groupthink, depression, anger, and friendship. I've been meaning to record this episode for some time following Dave speaking out after months of silence. Initially, and still to this day, some see Dave as an abuser, but after reading his side of the story complemented with testimony from others, I see no good reason to believe the accusations levied against Dave. David and I started to talk about the concept of justice, but the conversation went more into his personal story and insights reflecting on his time as president of American Atheists and chair of the 2012 Reason Rally. Dave was one of the most -- if not the most -- public-facing individuals challenging religion and advocating for church/state separation with his brand of firebrand atheism even appearing on Fox News challenging Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly. Years ago, Dave and I butted heads. He was deep into social justice and feminism, but now the situation is quite different as Dave has left the far left. He's apologized for his past behavior and I'm happy to accept his apology. We chatted for more than an hour, but unfortunately some audio was lost due to some technical problems. I offer a response to a recent article from the American Psychological Association which considers traditional masculinity -- marked by stoicism, competitiveness, dominance, and aggression -- to be, on the whole, harmful. Classical Stoicism, free from unhelpful feminist ideology, maintains that all are capable of virtue and provides a framework by which all can live better lives.
