This week is a very special episode that I am so excited for you to hear. Wendy bravely shares what her journey to changing her relationship with alcohol has looked like over the past year AND what finally helped her turn a corner, so much that whenever she has an urge to drink, she thinks 'I don't want to run back the page.' She shares what it looked like before and how much she was drinking and why. And some very nuanced detail in HOW she works through the urge to drink that has helped her be alcohol free now for almost 3 months! Wendy is a really good example of what is possible. This episode will also motivate you to not give up before the gettin' gets good! You never know when it will all come together for you, so you need to stay in the game until it does! Thanks again Wendy for coming on the podcast. Oh boy, I did a word of the year class and my word for 2026 is Authentic! And I am thinking, how much more authentic can I be? And I'm kind of scared of what might happen if I do reveal more of me.. what will happen in my relationships, work, family? Tune into this week's podcast and hear my thoughts about being scared of being authentic and why it's important to do it and practice it anyway. I have been practicing authenticity since I started working on my drinking 8 years ago. I decided I was going to share that I struggled with alcohol, publicly. And that helped me feel more real and authentic with myself. I needed to be done pretending that everything was perfect, because that is not real. Some people might not like it when you become the real you and share what doesn't work anymore, because it will make them be faced with their own need to take responsibility for themselves, AND THAT IS OK. I hope you enjoy this podcast episode. So many of us build our lives around avoiding discomfort — keeping the peace, staying comfortable, and managing our environment instead of truly living in it. But here’s the truth: when you spend your life trying not to feel bad, you also cut off your ability to feel good. In this episode, I explore the difference between living to avoid discomfort and living to feel alive. I share personal reflections and how over-drinking often becomes the shortcut we use to feel a spark in a life that’s gotten too small. When you stop numbing, your world expands. You start to feel everything again — and that’s where your aliveness, joy, and magic live. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: Why avoiding discomfort leads to a smaller, duller life How alcohol becomes a substitute for feeling alive What real peace feels like (it’s not comfort!) How choosing discomfort leads to expansion and confidence Work with me privately by filling out an application HERE: https://form.typeform.com/to/x8tcz6lmClick the link to find out how you can join The Founders Club for The Magic House in Portugal:https://www.angelamascenik.com/magichousefounderscircle Join me for a free live class and learn how to make Dry January your most peaceful, powerful reset yet:https://www.angelamascenik.com/dryjanuaryclass2026 Get on the waitlist for my Alive AF! membership:https://www.angelamascenik.com/aliveaf Tags:Stop Over-drinking, Angela Mascenik, stop drinking podcast, how to feel, how to overcome addiction, how to drink less wine, change your relationship with alcohol, coach for women who want to drink less alcohol, help to stop over-drinking, stop over-drinking, life coach to help stop over-drinking, self-love, importance of self-love, online membership to stop over-drinking, program to help quit alcohol, how to quit drinking, spouses, partners, food, overeating, moderation, sober retreat, how to prioritize yourself, make yourself a priority to drink less, mental health, mental health and alcohol use, mental health awareness month, how to stop over-drinking, how to stop drinking so much wine, life coach for women who drink too much, use humor to drink less, drink less, where do I start, sober retreat, how to stop over-drinking, how to drink less alcohol, Am I an alcoholic?, why do I drink so much, how to feel your feelings, how to stop the cycle of drinking too much, coaching for women who want to drink less, life coach for drinking less alcohol, stop over-drinking and start living, Magic House, magic, avoiding discomfort, allowing discomfort, Dry January, Masterclass
In this episode, I talk about the difference between genuine positivity and emotional bypassing. You know that moment when you tell yourself, “It could be worse” or “I should just be grateful”? While gratitude can be beautiful, using it to skip over pain can actually disconnect you from what’s real. We’ll explore how to know when it’s time to feel your feelings — sadness, anger, loneliness, frustration — and when it’s time to shift your thinking. True growth comes from allowing the emotion to move through you, not rushing to replace it with a “good vibe.” You’ll learn how to recognize when positivity is helping you and when it’s actually keeping you stuck in numbing patterns — like over-drinking or over-doing, instead of creating real peace. I also share when to share how you are feeling with other people.. it's nuanced and you will for sure want to hear this. Do you believe in synchronicities, those moments that feel too perfect to be coincidence? In this episode, I share why I believe in what I call the Magic of the Universe, the signs, parallels, and little winks from life that show you you’re on the right path. I tell the story of how I first began noticing these moments after I stopped drinking, how they’ve guided me ever since, and how they led me to one of the biggest leaps of my life, creating The Magic House retreat center in Lisbon, Portugal. If you’ve ever felt like the universe was trying to get your attention, or you’ve had those goosebump moments that make you say, “you can’t make this up,” this episode will remind you that you’re not imagining it. Most of us were taught that being selfish is wrong, that putting ourselves first means we’re taking something away from others. But what if that definition is completely backwards? In this episode, I talk about what “selfish” really means, and why caring for yourself isn’t taking from anyone, it’s how you stop running on empty. You’ll learn how to recognize when guilt or people pleasing is driving your choices, how to redefine selfishness as self-care, and why meeting your own needs first actually helps everyone around you. I also share personal stories about how this lesson has shaped my own life and work. If you’ve ever felt guilty for saying no, resting, or putting yourself first, this episode will help you see that honoring your needs isn’t selfish — it’s essential. This episode explores the concept of proceeding as if it will happen. You probably do this already.. think about selling your house in order to buy a new house. Or creating art, or producing something at work. Basically, the idea is that you are creating something or want something to happen. And then you go to work to make it a reality. Business people do this all the time. They want to open a restaurant or open up a bakery or a shop that sells retail items. They rent a space, order or make the products, buy materials, and work towards an opening date where they ASSUME it will be successful and people will come in and buy their goods. I want you to think about Proceeding As If you are already someone who has stopped over-drinking or quit. What decisions to you make, what actions do you take, what do you tell people? What does that that look like what you are “proceeding as if” you have already achieved your goal of permanently changing your relationship with alcohol? I promise you if you adapt this philosophy you will see success much sooner than you might think is possible! Friday I reveal my Big Bold Move, where I used the proceeding as if philosophy in my own business and I can’t wait to share it with you! I walked through a park today that had a sign and some metal barracades. The sign said Taking Care Of Your Garden. This was such a beautiful display and explanation of Boundaries. Summer season is over, the park crew put up boundaries to allow the heavily used green space to heal and recover and be tended to so it can come back and be strong and beautiful again in a new season. I think it's a beautiful and perfect metaphor of why we need boundaries, especially while we work on changing our relationship with alcohol. Your internal garden needs some growth and mending and that can't keep happening if you are getting trampled on by people, alcohol, or over-doing. Check out this week's podcast and see where your own garden needs tending. Also, make sure you are signed up to join me LIVE for the Big Bold Move reveal! In this episode, I talk about the difference between accidental change and intentional change when it comes to your relationship with alcohol. Maybe you’ve had stretches where you didn’t drink for a while and thought, “Hey, maybe I’m done.” But then life happened — stress, celebration, habit — and drinking quietly slipped back in. That’s what happens when change isn’t built on purpose and awareness. I’ll help you see how to recognize when you’re stuck in that same cycle on repeat, and why being intentional is the key to breaking it for good. You’ll learn what it means to decide on purpose, stay connected to your “why,” and create real, lasting change that doesn’t depend on luck or willpower. We need to be aware of 'wishful thinking' about things changing.. and decide with intention to make it happen, if we want to see real change with our drinking. Please join me for the beautiful discussion on all things healing and feelings with my friend Sarah Trapkus. We define what a wound is, why you get triggered, and ways you can engage with it that feel good. When we don't take the time to heal, we end up numbing, escaping, and avoiding our feelings, which we know isn't good for us. We debunk some common myths and concerns around 'going there' and how long our triggers should last. If you know you have been avoiding how you feel, you don't want to miss this episode! In this episode, I break down the difference between high-quality and low-quality relaxation — and why it matters if you want to feel truly restored instead of just numbed out. We’ve been taught to equate “relaxation” with wine at the end of the day or collapsing on the couch with a drink in hand. But that kind of low-quality relaxation only gives temporary relief — it disconnects you from your body and leaves you feeling drained or disappointed later.I explore what high-quality relaxation really looks like: practices that fill you up, calm your nervous system, and actually help you recover from the day — things like slowing down, breathing, walking outside, or simply allowing yourself to be present. You’ll learn how to: Recognize the difference between numbing out and genuine restoration Tune into what your body actually needs to relax Replace automatic end-of-day drinking rituals with higher-quality habits Build a more nourishing relationship with downtime and rest By the end, you’ll see that you don’t need alcohol to unwind — you just need to redefine what “relaxing” means and take the time you need to get there. Who has found themselves drinking as a 'reward?' Reward for a long productive day. Reward for 'dealing with the in-laws.' Reward for being a parent to teenagers. Reward for 'being good' and going without drinking for a few days. The reward lists can be long. If you have found yourself 'reward drinking' this episode is for you! You might have even said 'I couldn't find an alternative reward that sounded more appealing...' And we talk about WHY you are seeking a reward and how nothing is going to give you the same hit as alcohol will in that moment. It's about how to be with whatever is happening with your emotional state at that time instead of 'rewarding' yourself. Why do you need a reward? Not drinking feels simple when you don’t even want a drink. But what about those moments when the cravings and hard urges show up — after a stressful day, when you’re out with friends, or when your brain insists that a glass of wine will make everything easier? That’s when the real work begins. In this episode, I’ll show you why urges aren’t a sign of failure — they’re actually the training ground where you build confidence and self-trust. You’ll learn how to pause, ride out the discomfort, and practice tools that make saying “no” possible even when it feels hard. If you’ve ever wondered why it feels so different on “easy days” versus “craving days,” this episode will give you a fresh perspective and practical strategies you can use right away. And I share my new favorite mantra, and you DON'T want to miss it. Also, make sure you are on my email list to be the first to sign up for the Sober October Challenge inside the Alive AF! coaching membership, enrollment will be open September 17th through October 1st and it won't be open again this year. Please enjoy this REWIND- This week’s episode talks about the creeping effect of drinking alcohol. Have you recognized: 1) Your drinking has increased over time in how many days a week you drink or how many drinks you have each time you drink? 2) When you try and cut back and then you are ‘loose’ with your rules around alcohol, you notice it creeping back in to your old habits? Tune in and hear how I describe this phenomenon. Alcohol is invasive it’s like a weed with a strong root that takes hold, and sometimes we need to do more than we think to get our drinking under control. If you’ve ever said yes when you really wanted to say no—whether it’s to a drink, an invitation, or keeping alcohol in the house for guests—you’re not alone. Women who over-drink often over-do in every area of life. We people-please, over-commit, and ignore our own needs to avoid disappointing others. But here’s the truth: every dishonest yes chips away at your self-trust and keeps you stuck in the cycle of over-drinking. In this episode, I’ll show you why trusting yourself with your yes and no is the foundation for real freedom. You’ll learn how to spot the difference between a clean yes and a guilt-driven one, why honesty in your relationships is essential for change, and how practicing small nos can help you build confidence and self-trust. This is the episode to listen to if you’re ready to stop people-pleasing, start trusting yourself, and create relationships built on honesty—not obligation. Welcome back to the podcast! I've returned from a wonderful long break and I'm so excited to be back! Have you ever imagined how amazing something would feel—only to be surprised when the actual moment didn’t match your expectations? In this episode, I’m diving into that emotional mismatch and why our brains often get it wrong. You’ll learn why making decisions based on how you think you’ll feel in the future doesn’t work, and how to instead anchor your choices in the outcomes you actually want. Whether it’s with drinking, social events, or everyday life, knowing that thoughts and emotions change is so important. Tune in and hear some personal stories of my own feelings not matching what I thought I would feel! If you want help to stop over-drinking send me an email and we can talk about it, hello@angelamascenik.com. Please enjoy this Summertime Rewind- This episode is a must listen for everyone! It's normal to feel like giving up and throwing in the towel, it's a very human feeling. In this episode I discuss WHY we sometimes feel like giving up and how to recognize if you are in that place. Such as: Burnout and Overwhelm: When effort outweighs perceived results. Self-Doubt: Believing you're not capable of success. Lack of Immediate Results: The discomfort of delayed gratification. Comparison Trap: Feeling behind because of others’ progress. I explain how to shift your perspective and mindset. I also cover how to process this feeling and tips to focus on small action items you can take to keep moving forward. Also, when you are in this place its really important to ask for help, get support, talk to a trusted friend or join a group. I'd love to hear how you used this podcast episode to help you instead of throwing in the towel! Please enjoy this Summertime Rewind- When did we become a society that became scared of negative recourse when sharing personal beliefs, values, and decisions? I had this question burning in my mind because of how divisive we can be at times, especially now, in our current political climate. In this week's episode I dive into how to expand our emotional capacity for discomfort, especially when we are presented with opposing views and beliefs. Being divisive doesn't work. Black and white thinking doesn't work. And getting angry or hateful at other people when they don't share the same beliefs at us doesn't work.. So, what works? Empathy, understanding, and expanding our own ability to be with our uncomfortable feelings when we see other people thinking and doing differently than us. It improves YOUR quality of life. It makes things more peaceful. It helps bring people together. We can solve problems better, drink less alcohol and be happier on our lives. Who doesn't want that?
