More than 2,000 years ago, the Igorots of Sagada began their burial tradition of hanging coffins, which survived despite most of the Philippines being converted to Christianity by the Spanish. Going to Baguio in Benguet often means visiting the usual touristy spots of Burnham Park, Botanical Garden and Mines View Park. But for thrill seekers, an abandoned building on a hill offers not just a breathtaking panoramic view of the city but also possible sightings of Dominican friars and nuns beheaded during the World War II. This is the story of the century-old Dominican Hill Retreat House, formerly known as the Diplomat Hotel, one of the most notoriously haunted places in the Philippines. • Episode photos: instagram.com/p/B1UGNghnKj2 / References: storiesafterdark.ph / Facebook page: facebook.com/storiesafterdarkph / Twitter: twitter.com/afterdarkph / Support the show on Patreon: patreon.com/storiesafterdark / Share your feedback, case suggestions and personal stories: storiesafterdarkph@gmail.com
