Episode 034 - The 'Latin' Record (with Judy High)
Date Recorded: June 17th, 2023
Postdate: January 2nd, 2024
During this episode, returning guest Judy High and myself take a look at a collection of Spanish songs known as "The 'Latin' Record". Mavericks lead man Raul Malo uploaded the set of songs to his official forum just before Christmas in 2012, as a surprise gift to members of that forum. Officially unavailable ever since, copies survive among members of the forum and have become a hidden treasure.
In 2020, several selections ended up as part of The Mavericks "en Espanol" album, giving a home, at last, to most, but not all, of the songs from "The 'Latin' Record". Judy and I take a look at, and a listen to, each song in the collection, as well as possible sources and histories behind each track!
