Clueless (finally!)

Clueless (finally!)

2024-09-1759:52

This week, the boys are joined by '90s Tanner and Jack Shepherd Ska Explainer to try and figure out which of the characters from "Clueless" are actually from a completely different movie starring Goop from Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop. Turns out, it's a lot of them! As if! Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! Subscribe to our Patreon at Patreon.com/BSCCPodcast Learn more about your ad choices. The boys are joined by the great Vanessa Zoltan to discuss one of the most important Pride and Prejudice adaptations, "Actual Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. She did this one as a book, which is longer than a movie, but still has some funny bits in it as well as some quite strong writing. Discussion topics include: Hand Stuff; Fred Mary Will, "Nice Guys Finish Last" Edition; and ... "Is Mr. Bennet Bad Actually?" You can find Vanessa's excellent podcast at HotAndBotheredRomPod.com or wherever you get your podcasts! Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! Welcome to the Sir James Martin Fancast, where we're sharing our favorite James Jams from "Love & Friendship," the 2016 adaptation of Jane Austen's epistolary novel "Lady Susan." Also, we're trying to get into the desperately exclusive east coast chapter of the Jane Austen Appreciation Society, so if you know anyone on the inside, please put in a good word, and don't tell them how many of the 10 Commandments we've been ignoring lately. Showerbath-ton

Wouldn't you know it –"Sanditon" episodes 3 and 4 are even hotter and hornier than the first two episodes?! Maybe it's because Jane's been drinking too much cider. Or maybe it's because Tanner's been drinking too much beer. Either way, the boys are going to need an ice-cold showerbath after this one. Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! That's right, it's the very hot and very horny first two episodes of "Sanditon," by Andrew Davies (the Jane Austen of our time) and Jane Austen (the Jane Austen of Jane Austen's time). We're going to be getting to the bottom of who's nice and who's not nice, as well as other scintillating questions like what on Earth is everybody doing with their hands this week?! Billie Piper is a more or less silent Fanny Price in the 2007 Mansfield Park created by Britain's Interesting Television, but is it better than the controversial 1999 adaptation? The answer might very well tear this entire operation apart. Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! Pride & Prejudice: Atlanta

Pride & Prejudice: Atlanta

2024-07-0901:05:39

Darcy's a congressman, Lizzie's trying to save the town square, and this whole thing is making us just a little bit horse crazy. This week, it's Pride & Prejudice: Atlanta, a terrifying parallel universe where nothing is quite as it seems. Or possibly just an extremely wholesome Lifetime movie. It's difficult to tell. Bride and Breadjudice

2024-07-0201:06:31

Have these boys met a real live Mr. Darcy, in the flesh, without realizing it? Will the Seal of Danzalthar stay closed long enough for the Bakshi girls to find some rich and mostly shirtless husbands? And what even is Tanner's middle name? These are difficult questions to answer even in the sober light of day, and this is ... not that. This week: 2004's Bride & Prejudice. Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! Mrs. Bennet was right. There, we said it. Anyway, we watched the 2005 Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice this week and some of us have to grudgingly admit that it's quite good. Top tier Darcy. And, well, there's a LOT of hand stuff in this one. Wowza. Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! We're finally getting around to tackling Jane's only nonfiction novel, "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which covers the zombie apocalypse of 1813, as well as the marriage — officiated by Doctor Who himself — of Elizabeth Bennet to handsome actor Sam Riley, who everyone agrees is the best Mr. Darcy. Also, it's a movie, not a book, so I guess it's a documentary. Happy Pride Month! Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! It's our wettest episode yet, with Anne Elliot from the Fishman movie making a big splash in Bath, while Captain Benwick stands on a big scary wall to let the waves wash over him. Positively soaking! P.S., we loved this one (it's the 2007 ITV "Persuasion"). Austenland

Take a trip with us into the crazy Westworld-style "Kissing Brothel" known as "Austenland," where there's no robots but there's plenty of kissing, a very tall gardener, an actual Mr. Darcy, and (somewhat unfortunately) a pair of Hole Detectives. You heard us. Hole Detectives. (Sorry I said it again!) Music credits: "Baroque Harpsichord," by Cinemedia “Chopstick Slapstick,” by OurMusicBox Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! Just as the predator claimed King Willie's skull as a trophy in 1990's Predator 2, so Willoughby (aka Rodrigo Fuentes) mercilessly crushes the hopes of Mary Dominguez (aka Marianne Dashwood) in this modern retelling of Sense (aka Prada) and Sensibility (aka nada). Jane Austen Book Club

Jane Austen Book Club

2024-05-0701:03:14

It looks like we're all in one big Jane Austen Book Club together now, which means that we're going to have to start carrying around all our Jane Austen texts in one giant volume, making our bro-ey basketball boyfriends read "Persuasion," and being astonishingly slow to notice when somebody has an obvious crush on us. Honestly, sounds like a blast. This week we watched "The Jane Austen Book Club"! Special thanks to Baby Bee Carys for the theme music! North-ANGER Abbey

North-ANGER Abbey

Don't blink, because it's the 2007 Andrew Davies adaptation of Northanger Abbey, and Jyn Erso is about to make her biggest mistake since she tried to steal the plans to the Death Star: Standing up Mr. Tilney to take a horsey ride to Blaise Castle. And it only gets cringier from there! Fortunately, we have a pair of Fashion Geniuses and a time-traveling barrister to help us get through it. This is a very short announcement to say that we are moving our release date to Tuesdays. I'm realizing this announcement is timed with April Fools Day, so I'll just pause to say that this is not a trick. We'll be back with the final installment of Death March Through Middlemarch, "Death March Through Middlemarch, Leg Five: The March Home" tomorrow. Tuesday! ❤️ + 😘 Learn more about your ad choices. eek this one was a bit rough to listen to.. . maybe Jack and Tanner have been spending too much time together ? the jokes towards each other were getting a touch snipey and the irritation felt real ! also, the sound effects are a bit much for me , the simpler the better I say ! but that's just me . otherwise, loving the show :)

Great podcast- I'm addicted, but the levels are difficult. especially Jack. Tanner stays pretty steady but Jack makes the volume scratch often as well as lowers his voice to where you can't hear him unless you are wearing headphones. I usually listen while driving and when he talks too low, even on high volume, you cannot hear what he's saying. I'm on episode 30, so please tell me this gets better bc it's really tedious to constantly change the volume levels as well as miss info bc he talks too low. Otherwise, quite enjoyable and humourous.

barring skipping her shopping date, Claudia did absolutely nothing wrong. just because the books paint the BSC's bullying (because that is what they did) as right doesn't make it so. Claudia is allowed to have other friends. Ashley isnt a freak, she just doesn't worship babysitting like their little cult. the notes were petty and Claudia is honestly foolish to not demand an apology from them or kick them out of her room. also,it's hilarious that Stacey thinks bell bottoms look weird but not the blind Lady Gaga looking outfits she and Claudia wear.

Love this podcast so far... But holy hell the different level of volumes throughout the episodes is bloody awful. Not sure how much more I can handle it... Bummer...

Listen up sheeple: the BSC is an interstellar conspiracy with Princess Ann M Martin at the helm. When you were saving your allowance to buy the newest BSC "book" at Brentano's, did you ever stop to think about how these babysitters were infecting your labile mind? And how you can easily remember Stacey's favorite colors (red black & white) but have to reset your iCloud password every time you sign in? Yeah. THINK ABOUT IT.

Two things are true about me: I am a newly minted PhD in Comparative Literature and I used to buy Baby-Sitters Club books by the 4-pack from Sam's Wholesale Club. These two facts may or may not be connected. Anyway, I think I can say I'm qualified to say this podcast is the height of literary analysis and podcasting combined. If you've always dreamed of Freudian, Biblical allegorical, or behavioral economic readings of the entire Baby-Sitters Club series--and who hasn't--the dream is real.
