'Anna' is translated as matter out of which the entire external universe is made up. This matter (Anna) based aspect of our physical personality is called Annamaya Kosha or the physical body.  In Annamaya Kosha is subject to disease and hence it is important to have an understanding about the body. 
Yoga says that we are not just the physical body but have four more subtler bodies. The model is known as Pancha Kosha or five-layered existence. The Pancha Kosha model is a comprehensive personality model that helps us cultivate a holistic understanding of our existence.
