Stub Me Down wraps up their time as the official podcast of Oktoberfest at The Vortex with episode 2 of season 7. Chatting with each of the bands on the bill was incredible, and catching up with Jeremy Kaplan and Sam Lucid from the headlining act, Dogs in a Pile, was no different. Jeremy and Sam talked about the impact of touring on their music, playing shows vs. recording albums, and how each band member contributes to the collective sound. A special day wraps up with a great conversation with a formidable band on the rise! Nothin’ left to do but smile smile smile! Thanks to Jeremy, Sam, and the rest of Dogs in a Pile! Special thanks also to Dennis Barth, Tanner Jones, and everyone at Sunrider 9 Productions and The Vortex! Thanks for listening!
Stub Me Down Podcast is back for Season 7! SMD was the official podcast of Oktoberfest at The Vortex, a new venue in Catonsville, MD, and we kick things off with a really cool conversation with Ricky James and Rob Compa from Neighbor, a Boston band making a lot of noise in the jam scene! Skinny and JW chatted with Ricky and Rob about their complimentary playing style, creating setlists, and choosing covers. Their music is entertaining and they bring an upbeat vibe to the stage, and we were so grateful for a few minutes of their time! Check out Neighbortunes.com for their fall tour, and get yourself into the Neighborhood!
Stub Me Down Podcast is live on location! As the official podcast of Oktoberfest at The Vortex, JW and Skinny had the chance to talk to each of the bands in the lineup. The day kicked off, as any jamband festival should, with some good ole’ Grateful Dead. The Wharf Rats Live filled the opening frame, and Skinny spoke with Eric “Dawg” Metzman about their sound, channeling the Grateful Dead, and the difference between indoor and outdoor performances. Check them out at thewharfratslive.com.
Stub Me Down Podcast is live on location! As the official podcast of Oktoberfest at The Vortex at CAA Park, JW and Skinny had a chance to sit down with each band in the lineup. This Cargo Shorts features a conversation with Seven Teller, a Baltimore band with some indie vibes and a jammy, danceable sound. Sam Cochran and company also host their own annual event, Tellerfest, and will be touring the DMV to wrap up 2025. Check out their schedule at seventeller.com.
Stub Me Down live on location! Oktoberfest at The Vortex, a new outdoor venue in Catonsville, Maryland, included some rather talented fresh young acts, including Runner & Bobby, a four-piece from Chicago with an indie vibe. Not quite in the jamband realm, Runner & Bobby drew some improvisational inspiration from the other acts and filled a tough spot in between Neighbor and Dogs in a Pile. Check them out on the socials or at runnerandbobby.com.
Stub Me Down Podcast live on location! SMD was the official podcast of Oktoberfest at The Vortex, a new outdoor venue in Catonsville, Maryland! SMD Cargo Shorts will feature conversations with each of the bands over the course of the day! First up: The Reality Check Experiment, a jamband out of Philly, drawing inspiration for their live performances from Phish, Zappa, the Grateful Dead, and Ween. Skinny and JW wrap up Season 6 of Stub Me Down, but some endings are beginnings! Episode 10 features the fellas getting to the bottom of their themes, including the big reveal from each and what drove their setlist selections. Then the BIG news hits, as JW and Skinny are joined by two guests who share information on an exciting festival coming to Maryland, including who the official festival podcast is going to be! As always, thank you for listening, and see you for Season 7 of Stub Me Down Podcast!
Stub Me Down is here to get 2025 started off on a positive note! JW and Skinny conclude their chat with author Benjy Eisen in Episode 3 of Season 6! They finally get to the stub down after an extended discussion of the Grateful Dead and Bill Kreutzmann in part one of this incredibly fun conversation. Benjy's stub takes the guys to the second of a two-nighter at UMass Amherst in 1995, featuring some big jams, rarities, and context about the setlist you might not have heard before! This was a special night, and even Dickie V. got in on the love! Thanks for listening!
JW and Skinny welcome in author Benjy Eisen for Episode 2 of Season 6, and the conversation was so extensive it had to be broken up into two parts! Benjy gets things started by discussing his relationship with Bill Kreutzmann, spending time with Trey Anastasio during Fare Thee Well, and the passing of Phil Lesh. Amazing stories, incredible energy, and kindness that shines through- part one with Benjy is like eating an oreo cookie. And find out where Skinny and JW go with song two of Theme From the Bottom! Thanks for listening, and Season's Greetings from all of us here at Stub Me Down Podcast!
Skinny and JW welcome in Ryan Eldridge from Maine Cabin Masters for the season 5 episode 5 stub down. Ryan shares his experience at a Phish show filled with rarities from 2010, including a very special second set tribute to the recently passed Gregory Isaacs. This entertaining conversation includes a pop-in visit by Ryan's wife Ashley, a discussion of strange things found in old camps Ryan and the Maine Cabin Masters crew have encountered, and the power of the t-shirt! Thanks so much to Ryan for his time, and be sure to check out Maine Cabin Masters on Magnolia TV and Hulu!
JW and Skinny are flocking with the rest of the jam scene in S4E7 as they are joined by fellow podcaster and Goose aficionado Ryan Storm. Young Ryan discusses his love of all things Goose and stubs the guys down on his second show from the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. Ryan shares his extensive knowledge of the band's catalogue, drops some stats, and shares some must-listen recommendations for the new Goose fan! HONK!
Ever want to skip to the jam? Or just listen to only jams? Skinny and JW are joined by the co-creator of Phish Just Jams in Episode 5, Season 4 of Stub Me Down Podcast. Chris talks about curating Phish's music, selecting choice jams for various playlists, and of course stubs the guys down on a couple of second sets from 1.0. Check us out wherever you get your podcasts, and get on Phish Just Jams if you haven't already! Thanks for listening!
Some stories need to be told. Skinny and JW explore a deeply personal event with JW's Uncle John (he didn't have a band). While we eventually get to a show, this conversation is moving and hopeful. Thanks for listening.
Ever voted in the Phish brackets on Twitter? Did you struggle to choose Reba over Ghost? Even if you haven't, you will enjoy episode two of Season Four! JW and Skinny get stubbed down by the infamous Tim "Weekend Wook" Donahue, founder of Wook Plus and a staple of the community! Tim shares his experience from a quirky night during the 2022 Dicks run, discusses the vocal stylings of Trey, and balancing expectations when things take a turn. Be sure to check out Wook Plus on YouTube!
Welcome back to Stub Me Down Season Four! RJ Bee from Osiris Media joins the boys for a fun discussion about the scene's new favorite rock band Goose. RJ fills the fellas in on the scene and the music. Looks like the haters might go down in a great ball of fire! Enjoy and thanks for listening to Stub Me Down!
In the penultimate episode of season 3 of Stub Me Down, JW pulls a recent show during which he experienced some of the best versions of tunes he has ever seen. Skinny was there too (for most of this one) and experienced similar thoughts with several songs. While it was not quite Trey Band, it was also not quite Phish. Perhaps a third plane of existence was created on this night, and perhaps Dezron Douglas was the key to unlocking this new dimension.
Skinny pulls the stub for Episode 8 of Stub Me Down Season 3, but JW throws him for a loop with his reaction to this show from 2013. Skinny's affinity for this one is not met by dubs, who takes an unusually contrarian (as much as possible) view of the setlist. Still, the fellas find consensus on a few tunes as they feature their own "Odd Couple" tease.
Skinny and JW welcome in Bravo TV's Below Deck star Ed Lucas to Stub Me Down for a very special episode 6 conversation! From luxury yachts to tug boats, Ed shares details of his professional life, much to the chagrin of Skinny. But despite Skinny's lack of interest in boats, he suffers through Ed and JW geeking out about all things nautical and is rewarded with a great conversation about Ed's first Phish show back in 1996. We are everywhere!
Skinny and JW get together with fellow podcaster and friend Brian Weinstein of Attendance Bias to relive the April New Years Eve run from Madison Square Garden! From the undersea escapade to the structure of the sets, the fellas cover each night and highlight their favorite (and less favorite) moments from New York. Thanks Brian! Always a great time to collaborate!
We Are Everywhere! Author Peter Conners joins JW and Skinny in Episode 3, Season 3 of Stub Me Down to discuss his new book Merch Table Blues and his take on the early Phish scene through the lens of a superior show from the 1991 Horns Tour. Peter and the fellas chat about the underbelly of the jam band scene, lament the gradual disappearance of ticket stubs, and of course explore some nerdery stats from the time period. Check out Peter's new book wherever books are available or from www.peterconners.com!
