Ciaran Murtagh chair ISME joined Conall this morning to talk the future of SMEs in Ireland and the challenges that they are currently facing, Ciaran talked about education and upskilling being essentials for entrepreneurs and employees. Ciaran Murtagh is Managing Director of Shay Murtagh Precast, a family company and leading specialist in the design manufacture and installation of precast concrete products. With over 20 years’ experience in the Civil Engineering industry he has been personally involved in the research and innovation of new products within the company and has developed the Septec Wastewater Treatment system and Rainman Rainwater Harvesting System from their inception. Joining Conall this morning was Master Distiller at The Dublin Liberties Distillery, Darryl McNally. The new craft distillery will open in October creating up to 20 jobs. The announcement was made as three enormous three tonne copper stills arrived at the distillery over the weekend, following a 1,515km journey from Germany to Dublin. The mammoth stills were craned across the Dublin Liberties’ skyline and carefully lowered into the grounds of the distillery to be assembled on site.   "Opening later this year, our Distillery will showcase the making of our whiskeys along with the history and heritage of The Liberties area." - Darryl McNally, Master Distiller pic.twitter.com/XcrbepsDnq — Liberties Whiskey (@DublinLiberties) February 24, 2018 The distillery will focus on producing a range of whiskies, including those catering for the growing global demand for premium and super-premium spirits.  Global consumption of super-premium Irish whiskey has increased by more than 12% annually over the last five years. Upon completion in October, production of all the company’s whiskey brands including The Dubliner Irish Whiskey, The Dublin Liberties and The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey will move to The Dublin Liberties Distillery. Rosi Goswell, founder of Tuath Irish Whiskey Glass joined Conall in studio this morning, she is on a mission to establish an official Irish whiskey glass. ECI Lighting was establishing in 1960, making it one of Ireland's oldest lighting companies.  They provide a valuable service of replacing your old lights with the latest low energy LED bulbs. The company is set to invest €25 million into their business to fund a new energy services business. Commercial Director, Mark Connolly joined Conall in the studio to tell him all about ECI Lighting and their plans of how they will be using the €25 million. This came after a €400,000 financial injection and are they are also looking to crowdfund an additional €200,000. Airsorted gives those who own property in Dublin the opportunity to list a vacant property on notable travel websites including Airbnb, Booking.com and HomeAway. The company services all bookings to a property on behalf of the owner for a small percentage of the property’s earnings. Rachel Moore, Dublin City Manager of Airsorted joined Conall on the show to talk about the business and their expansion in Ireland. The tech start-up recently announced the successful completion of a Series A funding round worth €7 million to fuel both its footprint in Dublin and its global expansion, highlighting the opportunity for Dublin-based property owners. Outside of Dublin, Airsorted’s current roster of cities includes London, Edinburgh, Paris, Brighton, Bristol, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland. Mountmellick Development Association (MDA) is a voluntary community development organisation which supports local, integrated, social, cultural and economic development. In recent year's they have opened a Commercial Kitchen Unit with 4 fully functioning Commercial Kitchens, with all the bells and whistles needed. They also have a demonstration kitchen for anyone that would like to teach a class or attend a class being taught perhaps. As Chief Financial Officer of Square, the payment company founded by Twitter boss Jack Dorset and Board Member of Wallmart, Sarah Friar is  currently the most senior Irish born woman in corporate America. She is also the keynote speaker at the upcoming Ladies Who Launch event taking place in Dublin next week. Figures from EU studies suggest that women are half as likely as men to own their own business. While the number of women setting up their own businesses in Ireland has grown in recent years, women are still under represented in entrepreneurship activities. Helen Fullen, Pre Accelerator Leader at the NDRC joined Conall on this week's Sunday Business Show to discuss this very fact.
