11: Change The Culture

A high performing team is super aware of the culture they work in, and depending on their goal, can adapt their work to fit the culture, or work to change the culture. A team can have excellent new ideas, and all the best evidence for change, but if the team’s goal doesn’t fit the company’s current culture, their work may not succeed. Emma Wingate (Unilever), Andrea Wareham (Pret A Manger) and Bruce Robertson (Company Culture Expert) talk about the importance of culture and behaviours, and how to build a brilliant company culture.  The guests draw on their experience providing case studies, stories and advice in this informal discussion to help you supercharge your team.

10: Engage Your Stakeholders

Engaging stakeholders is crucial, but difficult. Involving stakeholders too much or too early means they might expect to make decisions for you. But, if you leave it too late they may feel they have had no influence on the project and reject your work, no matter how good it is. The balance is in including them enough, so that when your project is a success, they feel they’ve played a part in it. Pam Hamilton discusses with Clare Thompson (K7 Media) and Monica Juanas (Brand Leadership Group) about the challenges in keeping stakeholders updated and on-board with your team’s work. The guests draw on their experience on how to balance just the right amount of stakeholder engagement to give your stakeholders regular, useful and constructive updates that don’t hold your teamwork back. Enjoy case studies, stories and advice in this informal discussion to help you supercharge your team.

9: Get Support From Leaders

Managing upwards or getting support from your leaders is crucial to any supercharged team. Most teams have a leader who has an influence on our work.  Not the team leader but someone higher up in the organisation who doesn’t sit in the team, but is responsible for supporting it, for example approving budget, giving us advice or representing us at board level.  If your team is not properly supported by this leader your work could be wasted. Pam discusses tools and techniques for managing upwards with Stefan Homeister (Business Leadership Expert) and Remy Blumenfeld (Creative Leadership Expert). The guests draw on their experiences on getting your leaders to support your work and what leaders really want from teams. Enjoy case studies, stories and advice in this informal discussion to help you supercharge your team.

8: Dealing With Conflict

If your team faces constant conflict or bad behaviour, the whole team suffers. If you ignore it and hope it will go away - it is likely to get worse, not better.   Pam Hamilton discusses with Jodie Rogers (author of The Hidden Edge) and Irene Grindell, (Conflict Mediator) about how to prevent conflict, how to deal with existing conflict, and how to intervene if one person in the team is causing difficulties. The guests draw on their experiences of how conflict can start and give advice on how to move forward, and how to agree to help each other avoid that conflict in future. Teams sometimes get into habits that are hard to change.  Carefully calling out bad behaviour and reminding each other how you’ve agreed to work together are amongst the techniques discussed to resolve and prevent issues.

7: Ways to Work Together

Pam discusses how to build trust and teamship, why it’s important to decide how the team is going to work together and what isn’t acceptable. Beth Ann Kaminkow (VMLY&R COMMERCE) and Carl Hartman (WPP Red Fuse) talk about practical examples of how unified mission, shared purpose and inclusion are so important to strong teamwork. Working in a team seems harder than ever before. Time pressure can make us forget to spend time on each other. We’ve had to learn how to communicate better over zoom and be sure everyone has a voice and no one individual has a dominant voice. The guests share emerging understanding of empathy, and the downsides of how teams have been working remotely, allowing us to be more human in our communication and connect in a better way.

6: Agree What You'll Deliver, When

Teams that have a clear ambition and motivated team members will be keen to get started on their project. However, before leaping into teamwork, a supercharged team plans the project journey first.    Pam discusses journey planning with Laura Diamond (AB InBev) and Ricardo Arantes (Unilever), including knowing when you are on track or need to change direction, and keeping the right momentum towards your goal. The guests draw on their experiences highlighting how strategy, communication and empathy can create a safe space to work, unleashing an individual’s power to help create positive change in an organisation.

5: Find Your Motivation

When something is important to us we perform better. Pam discusses with Adam Schorr (Founder at Rule No. 1 Inc) and Amber D’Albert (Paraffin) how having a clear purpose can motivate the team to succeed. The guests discuss how teams can find purpose by understanding the positive impact their work will make, so they are motivated to deliver, even when the work is tough.  No matter what work we are doing, when we have a good reason for doing it, the work feels better. 4: What Goals Do You Want To Achieve?

Pam Hamilton (Author of Supercharged Teams) discusses goals with Natalie Turner (author of Yes You Can Innovate) and Louise Wilders (CEO, The Hive). Too often teams will set a goal without realising that individual team members have interpreted the goal in different ways. Setting goals and objectives is a team effort, especially making sure everyone understands the use and meaning of key words, visions and objectives.  Pam, Natalie and Louise also talk about how the objective may change, and how important is its to re-evaluate the goals.

3: Find More Time

Pam discusses ideas to Find More Time with Gael De Talhouet (Essity) and Alexandra Wren (GSK). Tools and tips to help your team to be more productive, to respect each other’s time, and to stop other people from taking and wasting your time. Do you really need to attend all the meetings you’re invited to? Challenging why you're needed, what questions are you expected to answer means you can prepare in advance.  Gael and Alexandra share thinking around rules of engagement within teams, when to use email, when WhatsApp might be the best way to share information. Aligning the thinking and having clear logic has delivered big time savings. While these things may seem obvious, in practice we have lost the sense of what makes a great meeting. Stopping to reflect, prioritise and think, can prevent us from carrying on and doing things as we’ve always done them.
