For those who have been a Christian for some time it is easy to get sucked into the Pharisee trap. When you first became a Christian, you were grateful for the redemption of your soul and freedom from your sins. Over time though you have forgotten your past. Blocked it out completely, perhaps. This is what I did. This is how I fall into the Pharisee trap. I would see others sinning and think, "How could they?!" Forgetting that used to be me. Forgetting the dark place, I used to be in. This isn't the end of my story nor should it be yours. We are called to reach the lost, be salt and light. Where is light needed? In dark places. Most men are hiding. Hiding behind a mask of their past mistakes. I have been doing the same. Though, I have been open about a lot of my past mistakes. There is one I have never shared publicly. You have experienced hurt and pain. Someone wounded you in a way that you didn't even know was possible. And you wanted to repay their evil for evil. You wanted them to feel the pain and hurt you felt. You wanted to stone them! But vengeance isn't ours to give. God called you to love them who hurt you. There is a freedom in this for you! The reality is you have already been throwing stones at them and others. This happens when you react from your emotions rather than responding in the Spirit. Each week, each day you have moments and thoughts where you think, "I just can't it right or figured out." You start to expereince negative thoughts which only create more negative and intrusive thoughts. If not kept in check you will find yourself have thoughts that seem unreasonable and unimaginable. Yet they seem real and true. You have even considered suicide when you know suicide is the last thing you would ever do. You believe you are struggling and will always continue to struggle. You are NOT struggling. You are under ATTACK! This past week was a challenging week for me. It seemed as though I couldn't get anything right. I was frustrated, angry, exhausted, and felt helpless at times. Looking back I realized that the challenges I was facing weren't the real challenges. I know every day will have its challenges and troubles. The real challenge was because I forgot about the battle you and I are facing. The enemy is always trying to use every worldly challenge to steal, kill and destroy your joy and your life. This was my week. And, he almost won. But he didn't. He won't claim victory over you either if you can remember this. The problem isn't your wife, kids, parents, friends, or your job, income, retirement or investments. The enemy is just trying to trick you into believing they are the problem. The problem is your focus. Fix your eyes on Jesus. This may not make it easier right away but it will make it better. And you will find victory in Him!
You know the feeling. An unsettling feeling in your heart, the faint whisper, calling you out. "You were made for more." It's not a condemning feeling or voice. It's convicting. It's God calling you into your purpose. Some will bury it with sports, porn, alcohol, drugs or a combination of all them. Some will simple learn to ignore and hide from it. I have an interesting question for you... Have you ever thought about when you will die? As a Christian man I know where I am going after I die so death doesn't worry me. In this episode I bring up an interesting question which was recently presented to me. "When do you think you will die?" I didn't have an answer and I wont ever have a correct answer. But this question got me thinking about some other questions. "What will you do between this moment and then (death)?" "Am I setting my mind on the things of the flesh or of the Spirit?"
