Description

This is the podcast where a brother and sister discuss two of their favorite things: Taylor Swift and cocktails! Every episode we'll feature a Taylor Swift song, we each pair it with a cocktail inspired by that song, and then we breakdown every musical mixology moment. At the end of every episode, one of the sibs announces which song they've chosen for the next episode. The cocktails help to fuel the discussion, so make one for yourself and join us!

Hello Mr. Perfectly Fine listeners of this podcast! Settle in as we start this episode off with a promised discussion of the rap battle between Kendrick and Drake. It's Taylor-related, after all! Both of us unplannedly deviate away from "Pop Girl Spring" and choose two male singers for our New Shit segment. We dive into the Swift of the week, a Fearless (Taylor's Version) vault track that is most certainly not *not* a bop. The song is fun, witty, and a wee bit angry. A classic formula that makes for the perfect Taylor Swift song! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 074 - Nothing New

Episode 074 - Nothing New

2024-05-3101:17:47

This week's song choice was recommended to us by a loyal listener...thanks Courtney! And what a great song choice it is. The episode begins with us attempting to summarize our entire 10-minute conversation that never got recorded. There's talk of Rep TV and Debut TV and our theories on when that will happen. We discuss incredible siblings during our new shit segment. And lastly, we get into the emotional depth of Nothing New, the significance behind Taylor being 22 when she wrote it, and why she opted to have a featured artist on this song. Swiggies: will you still want us when we're nothing new? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 073 - Fortnight

Episode 073 - Fortnight

2024-05-2401:25:40

This episode starts with Sam sharing some VERY EXCITING NEWS!!!! Let's just say there might be some Scotch whiskey making an appearance in some future cocktails... The song Fortnight is a heavy hitter and probably the most in depth the sibs have ever gone when discussing the spirit of a song. The opening track on Taylor's new album tells quite an interesting story that isn't all that clear. The music video is discussed in length and is absolutely recommended to further understand the message of this song. We end the episode with a recommendation for next week's song. Keep the recommendations coming, Swiggies! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 072 - Gorgeous

Episode 072 - Gorgeous

2024-05-1701:08:33

Disclaimer: This episode was recorded BEFORE The Tortured Poets Department was released. The outro was edited AFTER TTPD was released....we promise we're not trying to make it super confusing for everyone. This episode is GORGEOUS *ding* in all the ways. Rachel and Sam choose the same artist for their new shit. Sam struggles through sleep deprivation and pours himself a simple cocktail to cope. Did someone say Max Martin and Shellback? The laughs are plenty in this one! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 071 - Paris

Episode 071 - Paris

2024-05-1001:23:21

We had LOTS to talk about in this episode, all before we even got to the song of the week! From the Met Gala, to Charlie Puth, to the 1975, to Gracie Abrams, and of course to the Eras Tour setlist which we are predicting will certainly change for the upcoming show in Paris. Speaking of Paris, we LOVE this song! What a welcome love bop during an otherwise down moment of the whole Midnights album. But wait....is it actually a song about the love that we think it is? Maybe the song is actually terribly heartbreaking in disguise? Oh here we go again...! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Rachel and Sam are FRESH out the slammer that is Taylor's new album. What can they say....they've been imprisoned by it ever since its release! Never the less, they still have some "new shit" to share, although it's not a far cry from TTPD. Excited to add a new album into the list of songs they discuss on this podcast, the sibs are completely captivated by Fresh Out The Slammer and the tea that it spills on Taylor's emotional affair with Matty Healy. The spirit, the musical mixology, and the Taylor twist are discussed in depth, all while Rachel and Sam sip on some delicious western- and slammer-themed cocktails! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Part 2 of our Tortured Poets Department reaction is here! In this episode, we discuss the second half of the album, AKA "The Anthology." Many thoughts, many obsessions, and many tears were shared during this discussion. And we're STILL processing! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
This episode is Part 1 (of 2??? Maybe more??). While we both agree there is still a lot to process about Taylor's brand new album, we still wanted to get together and share our initial thoughts and reactions. Discussing everything from the sound of the album to the theme and subject matter....there's a lot to unpack here! Part 1 explores the first 15 songs and overall thoughts of the album. Part 2 will be The Anthology, aka the DOUBLE ALBUM! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 068 - Dear Reader

Episode 068 - Dear Reader

2024-04-1901:11:56

Happy Tortured Poets release day Swiggies! We know our podcast won't be the first thing you listen to today, but come back to us and hear our analysis of Dear Reader when you're ready. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised with how we believe Taylor wrote the song to be an intentional gateway to TTPD. Welcome to the new era, everyone! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
This episode arrives ONE WEEK before the release of Taylor's brand new 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. Rachel and Sam sit down to discuss every single exciting theory and prediction they have about the upcoming album. But first, the sibs talk NEW SHIT, which is iconic this week given how overwhelmed they are with all the new musical releases as of late. When the time comes to discuss theories for Tortured Poets, Rachel and Sam break it down in the same way they would for a song: the spirit, the musical mixology, and the Taylor with a twist for the entire album. Given the track names, they both present their fathomings and predictions for each song. Let us know what you think about our theories and weigh in with your own! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Another exciting episode with a special guest! Natalie and Sam's friendship goes way back, but not as far as Natalie's connection to Taylor Swift's "self-titled" album (aka Debut). As an OG Swiftie, Natalie has a lot to share about how Taylor was influential in her adolescence, which brings about an interesting discussion with Sam and Rachel as the three discuss yet another fun and upbeat track from Taylor's very first studio album. Natalie tries her hand at cocktail making, Sam goes back to his roots with his favorite type of alcohol, and Rachel sets the record for the loooooongest cocktail name in history. A special announcement awaits at the end of the eipsode for the next Taylor Tea Time with the Sibs! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 065 - Renegade

Episode 065 - Renegade

2024-03-2901:13:28

This episode marks the first time we've ever discussed a song not found on a Taylor Swift album! Of course, Renegade was still written by Taylor, however it was featured on an album by Big Red Machine in 2021. Naturally, this prompts quite the discussion as it suggests perhaps Taylor wasn't confident in sharing the story of Renegade as her own. We theorize that Renegade is a deeply personal song to Taylor about her own struggle in a relationship. With themes of anxiety, mental illness, and toxicity within a relationship, this episode hits heavy and hard. Strap in! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 064 - Wonderland

Episode 064 - Wonderland

2024-03-2201:03:51

In today's episode, Rachel and Sam take a wrong turn and fall down a rabbithole of theories behind Taylor's 1989 track Wonderland. The episode starts with Sam bragging about his recent trip abroad but "it has to do with Taylor Swift," he swears! Together, the sibs are still geeking out over Taylor's decision to mash up songs on the Eras tour. Sam chooses an all-green cocktail and Rachel shows up with a Stanley full of water and an idea. Haven't you heard what becomes of curious minds? Tune in to find out! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Get out some popcorn and listen as we go down down down into the opening track of the Lover album! We start the episode by discussing the superiorness that is Taylor mashing up songs during the Eras tour, and then we introduce a new tradition that we'll be starting after discussing each song on our episodes. Sam struggles to pronounce the word "colloquially," Rachel fathoms who the song really is about, and together they sip on cocktails and discuss the meaning behind the song that started off an inconic era. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 062 - Dear John

Episode 062 - Dear John

2024-03-0801:11:17

We finally hit another track 5, and a MUCH anticipated one at that! In this episode, Sam put aside his love for John Mayer and Rachel put aside her aversion to him so that they could simply listen to Taylor’s story. And wow - what a story! Full of heartfelt lyrics, emotional vocal deliveries, and quite the tea ☕️, Dear John is truly one of her best songs ever written. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Sam and Rachel open the episode with the sports highlights of Taylor’s first superbowl win. They go back and forth asking themselves “why” or more like “how did this happen?” But alas they realize they should’ve just stuck to music, like analyzing their next track from Taylor’s debut album about making choices: “Should’ve Said No.” After cringing a bit over some of the lyrics and stage performance choices, they make interesting connections between this song and the folklore era. Is Taylor Betty singing to James? Let us know what you think! Somehow we've reached 60 episodes on our podcast and it's quite hard to believe. Did you know we were trouble when you first started listening? While Rachel and Sam are still reeling and buzzing over the recent Grammy's night, Taylor is jetting off to perform her first shows of 2024 in Japan! The song for this episode, though iconic, is far from our favorite. But oh what fun it is to theorize on the subject! We break down the music video which is REQUIRED material before listening to our analysis. Then, as natural siblings do, we get into quite the tizzy about a certain someone. We won't spoil much, but that someone's name sounds an awful lot like Juan Mayo. Rachel does use the word "sandwich" at one point....coincidence? A chicken nugget perhaps? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Well we never saw it coming....our sister Emily (aka the other sib) is rapidly becoming a Swiftie! And although she's never listened to an episode of SSS before, she wanted to be a part of the fun this week and so chose Love Story as the song for her featured episode. Finally all three sibs have come together to share cocktails, laughs, and theories about one of Taylor Swift's most famous songs! Sam get a little too into his cocktails, Emily realized that maybe there is more depth to this song than what appears on the surface, and Rachel really tapped into her Shakespeare lessons. Thanks for that, mom! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Episode 058 - End Game

Episode 058 - End Game

2024-02-0901:14:12

Big Reputation, Big Reputation, oooo Rachel and Sam have a big conversation ahhhhhhhhh. In the days leading up to the Super Bowl where Taylor Swift's boyfriend and his work colleagues will be performing their own version of a 2023/2024 Eras Tour, we chose a song to pump them up and get ready for the big game! Starting off with discussions on why End Game is "going to be the best episode of all time," we laugh over Taylor Swift food puns to prepare for your Super Bowl party, we share a new 5-star review, and of course we get into our "new shit" for the week. The cocktails fueled our discussion about this epic Reputation track, which had Sam praising the Swedish Dream Team yet again, and Rachel attempting to rap. Have you heard about us? --- oooooooooo --- we've got T-SWIFT to discuss! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
Holy effing crap....what are we even supposed to do with this information?! This episode marks the first time we've ever made an emergency post and it is all but deserved! We talk about everything Taylor Swift Grammy's 2024, her BOMBSHELL news, all the performances, all the wins....WOW!!!!!!! And there's even a surprise drop midway through this epidose. SO FUN!!!! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/swift-and-swigs-with-sibs/message
