In this episode, with my guest David Henley, a multi accomplished human being, that has dedicated a fair amount of his life to pursuing the science of systems thinking. We will be unpacking the question of "CAN WE SAVE THE WORLD WITH SYSTEMS THINKING?" and many other insights from his current view on our National and world situation. Dave has been supporting many organisations inclusive the government in how to create a better future for our country and would be known in Wanaka and Queenstown for being the responsible or key player in bringing the "Rifkin Documentary" to screen in our cinemas down south. If you don't know what systems thinking is, here is what Wikipedia has to say: "Systems thinking is a holistic approach to analysis that focuses on the way that a system's constituent parts interrelate and how systems work overtime and within the context of larger systems." Feeling more informed? 😄 Let's unpack this together and see how this can help us in our lives and as a species. \ SHOWNOTES The main principle of systems thinking is to see things and problems we need to solve as a group of interrelated and interdependent parts which can be natural or human-made. The feedback of a system or the impact each part can produce on each other is one of the fundamental components of decision making in this discipline. In plain words, before taking action you should always STOP and THINK and try to make an analysis of the impacts of a new project, decision or change not only in the directly related parts but also on possible impacts to directly unrelated parts. System's thinking is a non-linear way of thinking that is believed to better reflect the true nature of the world and the planet where everything is interrelated. The approach is similar to the playful nature of a child that is not stopped by the fear of consequences and it focuses on the joy of the journey and the adventure of discovery. The call to all of us is to try to leave fear and anxiety on teh side and see the change needed for a project or decision as an opportunity for a new adventure of discovery and to evolve to a better state. Always ask yourself how your decisions can impact others directly and indirectly and how they can impact your surroundings and environment. "This is a creative purposeful moment and you are part of a big human family that has lots of incredible qualities and a lot of stuff that it has to clean up and sort out in itself. But it's a big incredible moment that you are a part of." "You are invited to be excited about that and feel the goodness alongside all mess and the craziness. We don't have all the answers clearly understood and it's not a neat clean thing. It's OK." Let's not be scared when we can't get a crisp answer that this is what we do. Let's strive for that."
