All of us at The Jewish Radio Hour would like to wish our listeners, sponsors and friends - Chag Sukkot Sameach, A Freylekhn Sukes, Happy Holidays.
On the first half hour, Rochelle Zucker's theme is cross-cultural music. She features two unique recordings..Alba:Beyond Borders is a testament to the enduring power of music to transcend boundaries, bringing together the rich and resonant musical traditions of Latin America and the Jewish diaspora. The artists on the recording are Venezuelan soprano Maria Brea and Israeli-American pianist Dror Baitel. Through Spanish, Ladino, Yiddish, Galego, and Portuguese, the songs explore universal themes of immigration, motherhood, faith, displacement, and the search for home — themes shared by Latin American and Jewish communities alike.
The next recording Rochelle spotlights is called Sofreh Tisch by a group from Toronto - The Ladom Ensemble. Pianist Pouya Hamidi , originally from Iran and cellist Beth Silver of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage bring their respective traditions to the recording. The album reflects a spirit of friendship and artistic exchange. With respect to the title: The Persian word sofreh (سفره) refers to a spread or a tablecloth traditionally used in celebrations and weddings, its cultural significance bearing a sense of gathering and coming together. Tisch (טיש), its literal translation being “table”, is comparatively the Yiddish equivalent; a gathering of merriment and storytelling before a special occasion or traditional wedding..The two recordings you will hear may be very different in style and content but not so different in spirit as they both highlight shared human experiences and values, hope and friendship brought about through music.

Jewish Radio is a Winnipeg Institution predating many of the others.
It was started almost 80 years ago by Moshe Cantor, continued by Noah (Noyakh) Witman. After Witman's death, for almost 20 years, until his retirement in 2019, Sid Halpern served as Executive Producer. He was the "neshome" - the heart and soul of The Jewish Radio Hour. It was a labour of love. As well as hosting interesting and informative programs, he organized things and secured financing so we could continue. The show is hosted by a group of volunteers. We are not supported by The Jewish Federation but are an integral part of The Community keeping our rich culture and Heritage very much alive.
