With Feminism, the "Red-Pill" movement, and all the gender confusion happening in our societies today, how should Christian men understand God's design for the sexes? In this episode, we interview Michael Foster, the author of the book "It's Good To Be A Man" and pastor of East River Church, about the topic of Biblical Patriarchy. We explore some insights about the book, the differences between the Complementarian Movement and Biblical Patriarchy, and some of the important differences between men and women. We also consider if there should be a difference between how pastors preach to men versus women, how to safeguard against some of the excesses of the "red-pill" movement in the "man-o-sphere", and what is the Biblical definition of "effeminacy". Foster also lets us know about a new project he has been working on. Should Christian parents send their kids to public school? Does the Bible say anything about how we should educate our children? Many are afraid to give a clear word on this controversial topic. Many think that God's Word leaves it up to us to choose what we think is best or most convenient. However, our children's education is one of the most important responsibilities of parents, and specifically fathers. How Christians educate their children will determine the future of churches and societies - so this is no small matter. I believe that God's Word does have clear guidance for us on this issue, and in this video, I lay out my case for why Christians should not send their kids to public school, but instead are obligated to give their children a distinctly Christian education. This may take the form of homeschooling, private Christian school, classical Christian education or even other creative ways. But, the main point is that if we keep giving our kids to Caesar - they'll keep coming back as Romans. 📰 Read the article here: https://theotivity.com/post/public-school/ ----------------- 📚 Recommended Resources: ✅ The Case For Classical Christian Education by Doug Wilson - https://amzn.to/4668Z8k ✅ The Christian Philosophy of Education Explained by Stephen Perks - https://amzn.to/3Zd6TBr ✅ The Marxification of Education: Paulo Freire’s Critical Marxism and the Theft of Education by James Lindsay - https://amzn.to/3ZeOcwY ✅ Foundations of Christian Education by Berkhof and Van Til - https://amzn.to/3rli0vn ✅ On Secular Education by R.L. A lot of modern Evangelical Churches provide some form of Kids Ministry service during their Sunday gatherings. Many Christians take it for granted that this is normal. However, how many have stopped to ask the question, "Is this actually Biblical?" In this episode, we consider the Biblical texts that are usually used to support Kids Ministry to see if this practice is actually supported by the Bible. The answer may surprise many. But if we want to build healthy, Biblical churches, then we should be concerned about what God's Word says and doesn't say about this important topic. 📚 Recommended Resources: ✅ Family Shepherds: Calling and Equipping Men to Lead Their Homes by Voddie Baucham Jr - https://amzn.to/467tD7U ✅ A Declaration of the Complementary Roles of Church and Family - https://churchandfamilylife.com/about/276 ---------------------------- For more info on THEOTIVITY, please visit: https://www.theotivity.com/ To donate to keep THEOTIVITY growing and going, please visit: https://www.givesendgo.com/theotivity Don't forget to share, like and follow @theotivity ---------------------------- This podcast produced by @kurioscreative - https://kuriosmedia.com/
Many Christians today are confused about how to make sense of the crazy world we live in. Our present moment has many challenges to navigate with ideologies labelled as "Cultural Marxism" in the public square. With the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality, the radical Climate Alarmism, plus the rapid expanse of tyrannical governmental policies that overstep their God-given authority, and the escalation of gender and sexuality issues - many Christians are looking for a way to process these things Biblically. In this lecture, we explore these topics and how we can analyze them from a Christian and Biblically informed worldview to make sense of them and learn how to respond appropriately. The latter half of this video is an open Q&A period. ---------------- 📰 Article: https://theotivity.com/post/understanding-the-times-thinking-biblically-about-our-culture/ ----------------- 📩 Sign up for the newsletter: https://theotivity.com/newsletter/ 🎙 Subscribe to the podcast: https://theotivity.com/podcasts/ 💰 Donate at: https://www.givesendgo.com/theotivity ----------------- #christianpodcast #reformedtheology
In many Evangelical churches, people are leaving or switching churches over various issues, some of which are theological. People were wrestling with a lot of cultural issues over the past 3 years and it has caused a lot of Christians to re-examine their beliefs in certain doctrines and pertinent areas of theology. It seems like all of a sudden, people are talking about things like Theonomy, Patriarchalism, Postmillennialism, Sphere Sovereignty, Christian Nationalism, how to live under tyranny, what is the proper role of the church in society, religious freedom, conscience issues, the role of civil government, Cultural Marxism, Wokeness, and a whole host of other issues. In this episode, we'll be taking a look at a framework for Christians to think about these issues and determine their priority. We'll also consider whether or not it is something they should divide or switch churches over, and how to do so in a spirit of grace and brotherly affection. It's Christmas time and with all the hustle and bustle of this season - it is easy to forget the reason why we intentionally make a fuss about it. It is sad that sometimes the real meaning of Christmas can be lost in the busyness of the season. However, when we take some time to reflect on this marvellous truth - that the Creator God of all the Universe stepped into time and was born of a virgin as a little baby - it is truly a thing to inspire appropriate awe, wonder, worship and witness this season. I pray that this episode will help you to worship our King Jesus and witness to a lost world this Christmas season. What is a fool? When the Bible uses the word fool - it is not simply engaging in name-calling. It is describing for us some specific characteristics of foolish living so that we can avoid it. It is preparing us to live a life of wisdom. Thus, it is important for us to see the picture the Bible paints of foolish living. This episode is a bit of a mini-systematic theology of foolishness as we glean from the Bible's wisdom 10 marks of a fool. If there ever was a contender for God's favourite Bible verse, it would probably be Psalm 110:1. It is the most quoted verse in the New Testament - and for good reason! Psalm 110 is one of the clearest Messianic Psalms and also one which clearly shows us the victory of Christ over all his enemies. Some have even called it the most Postmillennial Psalm of the Bible... In this episode, we take a look at Psalm 110 and its inspired interpretation through the New Testament to see what it means and how it should affect our lives today. We unpack some of the context, the meaning of the original Hebrew and how the New Testament writers used it to speak of Jesus Christ. From this, we see that Jesus Christ really is the Conquering Priest-King who is at the Right Hand of God the Father, ruling and reigning now as he puts all his enemies under his feet in history. This is a vision of the ascended Christ that is not for the faint of heart, but one whom we all need to see! What's the difference between our secular culture's concept of "Social Justice" and the Bible's true concept of justice? Since the rise of the Black Lives Matter Movement in the wake of the George Floyd riots of 2020, Social Justice has been a hot topic in the cultural conversation. Whether it be through reparations and affirmative action policies, mandatory Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training at our workplaces, Critical Race Theory curriculum in schools, colleges and universities, or not-so-subtle messaging in movies and entertainment - it seems like it is unavoidable these days. As Christians, we must be prepared to give a Biblical answer to our cultural moment today. In this episode, we unpack 6 markers of true Biblical Justice in contrast to Social Justice and see how God's standards of justice are better and more beautiful than the secular perversion of justice. You can read the article version of this episode here: https://www.theotivity.com/post/social-justice-vs-biblical-justice RECOMMENDED RESOURCES: Confronting Injustice without Compromising Truth: 12 Questions Christians Should Ask About Social Justice by Thaddeus J. Abortion is one of the evilest scourges to plague our modern world. It results in the deaths of over 70 million innocent babies worldwide every year. It is the intentional destruction of life in the womb, made in the image of God and endowed by God with inherent worth, dignity and value. Yet so many today are silent on this horrendous issue. Even many Christians speak "softly" about the hard truth of the massacre of the unborn. However, we must deal truthfully with the problem if we are to prescribe the right cure. There is hope. But that hope is only found in the Gospel and from a genuinely Christian worldview. In this episode, in order to understand today's abortion industry, we take a look at its founder - Margaret Sanger. We see how her life and upbringing, the various radical ideologies she espoused (such as racism, Malthusian eugenics and Marxism), and her lifestyle all contributed to the shape of the abortion industry today. As we explore these things, we will see just how dark abortion is, but also how gloriously bright the light of the Gospel can shine into this darkness. One of the greatest challenges to God's total sovereignty over all things is the problem of evil. Is God sovereign over evil, and if so, doesn't that then make Him responsible for evil? In this last episode of this series, we'll consider this conundrum through the lens of Scripture itself to see what God's Word has to say on the topic. We'll also consider some important implications of this doctrine, and answer a few objections which were raised. Lastly, we'll also give you some recommended resources for further study. Who's choice is ultimate in salvation? God's or man's? This is the question we'll be tackling in the second episode of this series. We'll be taking a look, especially at Paul's teaching on the topic in Romans 8-10 and also from the lips of Jesus in John 6. We'll also consider what other relevant passages of Scripture have to say on God's and our roles in salvation. We'll then contemplate what this means for us today as we reflect on our salvation. These are important truths for us to not just know, but also to love and to hold dear in our hearts. They are core to our assurance and comfort as believers. If God is sovereign, then how can we have free will? This is a question that has puzzled Christians and kept theologians debating for centuries now. On the surface, it seems like a conundrum. Some argue that we must be totally free otherwise we would be like robots. Others have argued for a type of hard determinism that resembles pagan fatalism and fate. Many just throw up their hands in frustration. Is there any way we can know for sure? In this episode, we start a series where we'll be taking a deep dive into the mysteries of God's sovereignty and human responsibility. In this first episode, we'll start by clearly defining our terms and looking at what is meant by Libertarian Free Will and Biblical Compatibilism - two important phrases in this discussion. From there, we'll continue by looking at some important Biblical texts and what they clearly teach. We'll end off this series by contemplating what this means about the fact that evil exists, some pastoral implications and answer some objections. The Rapture is one of the most popular beliefs held by many Evangelical Christians today. Yet, it is a doctrine that is relatively new in church history and based on some very shaky foundations. In this episode, as we end off this series in Matthew 24, we examine this doctrine historically and biblically to see if it is actually true. Like good Bereans, we must search the Scriptures thoroughly to see if the traditions we've inherited are actually biblical or not. This doctrine has captivated the imagination of millions of Evangelicals and shaped their understanding of the End Times. While it is not a primary doctrine, it is not unimportant and has major ramifications for Christians today. By examining Matthew 24 and other relevant passages, we explore whether this popular belief is actually true. Articles in this series: JESUS & THE LAST DAYS | Which Generation Would See the End? Jesus predicted "the coming of the Son of Man" in Matthew 24. Many Christians believe that he was referring to his final coming in glory at the end of history. However, is this what he was referring to? In this episode, we consider what Christ meant by looking at what the Bible teaches about the "coming of the Son of Man" by comparing it with other Scriptures that Jesus was referring to. We also look at the testimony of history to see whether Jesus's words were actually fulfilled in the timeframe leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The answer may be surprising to some Christians and has major implications for our view of the End Times (eschatology). What is the "Abomination of Desolation"? This question has puzzled many students of the Bible. Many think that it refers to an End-Times Anti-Christ figure who will precede the final days. However, is this what Jesus meant to communicate? In this episode, we consider what Scripture has to say about the "Abomination of Desolation" and what it actually means. We also take a look at the testimony of history to see how it was fulfilled, just as Jesus said it would be and its importance for the Christians he spoke to in his day. We also consider how it affects our own understanding of the End Times today. Articles in this series: JESUS & THE LAST DAYS | Which Generation Would See the End? Depending on the circles you're in, it's not too infrequently you hear someone look at some disaster or report of war on the news and remark, "you know, it's the sign of the times..." referring to them as End Times signals. However, was this what Jesus had in mind? In this episode, we consider the signs that Jesus predicted would happen before "this generation" passed away in Matthew 24 and whether they have already been fulfilled or are still future to us today. We take a look at some important testimony from history from First Century writers like Josephus and Tacitus to see if the events of their day leading up to the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD fit what Jesus had predicted and why it is important for our understanding of the End Times today. What was Jesus talking about in Matthew 24 when his disciples asked him about the end of the age? Many people assume that Jesus was prophesying about the end of the world in Matthew 24. Yet, is this actually what he was referring to? Could it be that we have mistaken what he was speaking about because of our ignorance of the Bible and history? In this episode, we consider from Scripture what "age" Jesus prophesied was ending. The answer to this question significantly affects how we understand the rest of Matthew 24 and what our view of the End Times will be. Many have debated what Jesus meant when he said "this generation" in Matthew 24. Did he mean: "the Jewish race"? "This type of people"? or the people contemporary to his time? How long is a generation? When is the time period referred to as the Last Days? The answers to these questions have major implications for how we understand Jesus's prophecies about the End of the Age and your view of eschatology. There are two main views on this issue: the futurist view and the preterist view. One sees the things which Jesus said must take place before "this generation" passes away as still yet to happen and in our future. The other sees these things as fulfilled in the period in the First Century leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Which one is it and can we be sure? In this episode in this series, we seek to answer these questions and consider how they are important for our view of the End Times.
