Every once in a while, an interview turns more into a conversation amongst rap dudes. We anticipated having Rapper Big Pooh and Phonte for just 45 minutes, so when I tell you the interview lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes, it tells you just how funny and relatable these guys are to talk to. We covered an awful lot, yet it wasn't nearly enough once it was over. We discuss the May the Lord Watch documentary, their love for Beck or Bjork and their hate for Sci-Fi and its magical white people. We touch on their ridiculous stretch of music that ultimately burnt them out. We get into the brilliance of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ice Cube's Death Certificate, which is better Low End Theory or Midnight Marauders, and Dominican broads making chili con queso. We also talk Ghostface, Murs, Common, The Roots, Evidence, Kendrick Lamar and their affection for Outkast. I saw a great quote the other day and it said, "If Wu-Tang is for the kids, Little Brother is for the ones that raise them." Thanks to Rapper Big Pooh, Phonte, Andre Barnes and our longtime homie, I.D. for the idea. Stay tuned as we prepare to drop our Little Brother tribute in early March. Enjoy the discussion. www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio
Episode 141 is part 1 of our Ice Cube tribute. We're going back to the days of the C.I.A. to N.W.A. and then on to his solo career. At the break, we discuss the importance of Ice Cube's first two classic albums and the complete dominate he had in the early 90s in both music and movies. You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge.  www.takeitpersonalradio.com Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio Online store: https://take-it-personal.creator-spring.com/ (enter CUBE for 20% off) Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal
Welcome to season 7 of your favorite podcast. On episode 140, we're paying homage to a time in hip-hop, where the underground dominated our decks and digging at Fat Beats was the ultimate high. We've done 3 tributes to the indie hip-hop era, but sometimes you just want an episode to take you back to that special place.  If you ever experienced running up those steps to Fat Beats to cop the latest record or maybe you ordered your records online, you knew the excitement of finally getting your hands on some of these classic records.  On this episode we have music from our friends High & Mighty, we've got Jigmastas, Juggaknots, The Arsonists, J-Live, L-Fudge, Company Flow, Can Ox, Mike Zoot, Jean Grae, Tony Bones and Lone Catalysts to name a few. Stay tuned for upcoming TIP episodes, including our 2-part Ice Cube tribute and Del's No Need for Alarm album spotlight and interview. www.takeitpersonalradio.com Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal
On Episode 138, we're paying respects to our late friend and longtime supporter of Take It Personal, Matt "Barkley" Temchatin. Many of you knew Barkley as @HipHopAutographs, as he was one of the most celebrated hip-hop collectors online. Barkley unexpectedly passed away a few months ago, so we wanted to honor him with our last episode of 2023.  Barkley, like myself, started out doing college radio but his love for hip-hop only grew as he got older. He went on to run a record store and work as a record promoter in Philly, later graduating to a family man. His true passion can be seen when you view his IG @HipHopAutographs or if you recall the time he amazed everyone with his appearance on D-Stroy's Show Off Your Gems.  Barkley was a huge advocate of new hip-hop, so on 138, we are playing some of our favorite records that have recently come out in honor of him. We've got new music from Black Milk, Jay Royale, Elcamino, Torae, Beneficence, RJ Payne, Mickey Diamond & Big Ghost Ltd, Vinnie Paz, Little Brother, AZ, Supastition, Smoke DZA, Him Lo, Stu Bangas, The Good People, Edo. G, 38 Spesh, Open Mike Eagle, Blockhead, Paul Wall & Termanology, Lord Sko, Czarface, NapsNdreds and Keanutis Smith & Sense to name a few. Thanks to all of you for holding us down in our 7th season of Take It Personal. We'll be back in mid-January with Episode 139, our Patreon exclusive. It's our way of saying thank you to all of our Patreon members who have supported us throughout the year and return with a special episode in late-January with some brothers we love.  From all of us at TIP, have a happy and heathy New Year. Enjoy the show.   This one's for your Barkley!  https://www.gofundme.com/f/memorial-fund-for-the-temchatin-family  www.takeitpersonalradio.com Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradioPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal
