Tiffany, this is for you...ready...? when i was pregnant with my daughter, it was the beginning of a new life free of addiction for us. I lived with my parents raising our daughter and he lived in a sober living 45 min away where he worked so hard daily to change for all of us so we could finally get a place together and be a family. 4 years later we finally got a place together where we could finally be a family and live this new life as sober parents. my dreams were litterally coming true! I got pregnant with my son within a few months of moving in and at the same time he relapsed after 4 years being clean from heroin. Everything went downhill extremly fast. He totalled his car with our daughter in it and she was centimeters away from death with the skull fracture she had. His promotion at work, paying off his debt, going to school, EVERYTHING he worked so hard to accomplish in 4 years was destroyed in a matter of 2 months. it ended with me being forced into getting a restraining order to protect me and my kids. It was something that was very hard for me to do to my best friend of the last 10 years. I still loved him and still do but was left no choice. I became an unwilling single mom with 2 kids who had to watch her best friend who had made her dreams come true now destroy the life he worked so hard to build. I was angry and scared and sad and confused and lonely and lost and i missed my friend every day while I continued to raise our kids alone. He was my motivation and the leader of our family. I looked to him for almost 11 years everyday for the plan for the day. He made me eager to learn new things and taught me the importance of working as a team. We split everything including the house cleaning. Here i am almost 4 years into this single parenting thing and im still trying to catch up with laundry and everything else. I never fully recovered from the 3 days of destruction he caused while searching our home for "his lost keys". in 2016( it was so bad the kids and i had to stay with my parents because it was unlivable) I spend every day trying to "clean my house while also trying to avoid ending the day with more guilt from not spending time with my kids and enjoying my time as their mom.Being a mom is the only thing i Ever knew i wanted to be when i got older! I worry daily about him dying because in our addiction together he overdosed 2x and had I not been there he never would have made it past the first time and now those images of him turning blue and having to blow life back into him repeat in my head daily as i think of how im not there with him this time to save him if it happens again. I have thought about how I would tell my kids that their daddy is dead. Almost 4 years later and i am still sad and angry and lost and miss my best friend and the last fucking thing i still want to do is the stupid laundry! My son just woke me up this morning with " mommy I need some underwear" aaahhhhhhhhh Just put on the shorts! Recently my daughter who is 9 has been trying to get me going with a schedule and a routine. I never had these things growing up so its not happening over night but i remember being her age and craving that structure and routine. I grew up with everyone being so preoccupied that i started smoking ciggs at 8 yrs old. Thats how much "structure and routine" I had. With that said , i am working to make these changes for my daughter and get onboard with this new way of life that involves getting up at the same time every day and working on the same scheduled routine everyday. Tiffany.... the laundry situation SUCKS ASS! I tell my kids that if i had enough money ever that i would litterally burn ALL of our clothes and start over. ESPECIALLY THE SOCKS!! I HATE SOCKS!! there is this one lady I have invested in though ... she says..."you are not behind! I don't want you to try to catch up,i just want you to jump in where we are! The fly lady ... she is great . She is free. She starts you with baby steps on building habits. Each month is a new habit and your home is devided into different zones . The first habbit she gets you to do is to get ready to lace up shoes. sounds funny but its amazing what happens to your brain if you just get up and get dressed all the way to putting your shoes on even if your not going anywhere. These are things she started doing for herself after a period of depression and life changes that brought her down. She even has fly kids challenges. My daughter loves her. we just bought the beginners package with all her cleaning supplies which is not necessary however I thought it would help light the fire under my ass. Hahaha. We shall see how that works out. Seriously though even though I've had a hard time being consistent and I've had to have conversations with my 9year old about not giving up on mommy and that mommy will jump on board and to keep up her daily pep talks about following the schedule, this woman and her strategy to build new habbits to get your life out of chaos(can't. have.anyone.over.syndrome) stays in my head and i can feel some kind of work happening in my brain even on days I drop the ball. sorry for throwing up all over the screen. As I sit here locked in my bathroom away from my kids writing this I am beginning to feel like a failure already this morning so i think i should go out and participate in the daily schedule with my daughter. I hope at least one thing out of this essay could be useful to you tiffany. if not... fuck it... stay in bed. Eventually you wont have anymore positions to lay in that dont bring on pain from laying there so long and Your daughter is old enough to help with laundry. I know mine is and trust me when I say she WILL be eager to learn when she realizes that you really are just climbing over the pile of dirty clothes and her drawers are empty! oh one more thing... the spin mop bucket works wonders when you have to wash something by hand and dry it quickly. put that shit in the bucket and start pumping on that pedal and feel the spray of the water being released from that pair of shorts! life...it is what it is

Thank you for sharing your truth Tiffany. So often we suffer in silence when it comes to depression. What you said about finding at least one thing to be grateful for each day is something I also do. Often it's being thankful that I got out of bed or taking a shower.

I can’t tell you both enough that how much you guys rock! I love listening to the podcast and following you on social media. I just wanted to provide a resource for Tiffany regarding the meltdowns as it sounds so much like my son who suffers from anxiety. There is this guy that has (lots of free stuff!) podcasts called “Celebrate Calm” that have changed my relationship with my son... seriously great advice that I wish I had when my son was that age. It is very eye opening as to how a parent’s anxiety impacts our children’s behavior, highly recommend.

The name Meredith is a boy's name of Welsh origin meaning "great chief". Meredith has been considered primarily a girl's name since the fifties, before which it was more commonly used for boys.
