Lizzie and Lyra talk 9-1-1's "Family History," and how even if it was mostly effective as an episode, it wasn't really a great midseason finale. Probably because it wasn't meant to be one! They also have some issues with Chimney's Captain arc happening mostly off-screen, and Hen's choice to hide his illness from her family for... what reason, again? The show's pacing is a problem, and its tendency to expect us to fill in the blanks is also an issue. Plus, there are still so many dangling plot threads from last season! Lizzie and Lyra talk 9-1-1 "Día de los Muertos." And as Latinas, they felt this one. Eddie in particular got a lot of moments in this episode with religious guilt, grief, and choosing your own path. And even though they didn't like that it was Abuela bones this episode, they saw what this death did to Eddie and what could possibly come next. They also talk about Buck and how his journey paralleled Eddie's, with Buck working through his grief based on belief. And while that argument they had might've pissed off fans, they deserve a little grace and understanding because again, it's grief. And on Athena front... she finally talked to Bobby, the grief that's been hanging over all of them. Join them for the latest Tales From the 118! Lizzie and Lyra talk 9-1-1 "Reentry" and how it was the best episode of the opening emergency. Did it have to take 4 episodes to get here? No. It really didn't. If short films can deliver a moving story in 10 minutes, 9-1-1 should be able to tighten things up. Either way, they talk about how Angela Bassett gave a heartbreaking performance. But so did Pepi Sonuga, who plays young Athena. They also clock Eddie and Chimney for the tension brewing there and talk about how 9-1-1: Nashville could learn a thing or two from 9-1-1 if they want to succeed as a show. Lizzie and Lyra talk 'The Sky is Falling' and how it balanced character moments better than the previous episode, while still dropping little hints about what every individual storyline will be going forward. From Chim needing to take action, to Eddie being a little reckless, to Buck having to relieve a lot of his traumas, the train emergency had it all! And, that's without even going into Hen and Athena killing it in space, and Karen solving problem after problem to get them home. Join them for the latest Tales From the 118! Lizzie and Lyra are taking things to space in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 2 "Spiraling." And honestly... they focused a little too much on the emergency for us. So much so that what character development actually happened? Also, why weren't more people from the 118 concerned about Hen and Athena? Well, besides Karen, she was perfect. And Harry, who was not perfect, but we still related. But grief, falling objects, and space? Also, here be Fast and Furious comparisons, because space. Join them for the latest Tales From the 118! Lizzie and Lyra welcome Season 9 of 9-1-1 in their review of "Eat the Rich" where the rich literally get eaten by a whale, Hen and Athena going to space makes sense, and the dynamics have shifted for everyone. For one, Buck is a little too invested in Hen and Eddie seemingly becoming besties now that they're paired up. Thank God for Ravi being the voice of reason. And Chimney, he's adjusting to being the boss while trying to live up to Bobby's name. But he doesn't have to worry. He's doing a good job. Then there's Athena. The grief is being held at bay. And when it hits her, it's going to be bad. Until then, SPACE IT IS! Join them for the latest Tales From the 118! Lizzie and Lyra are putting their 9-1-1 Season 2 rewatch on pause for a Season 9 preview! And between Bobby still dead and Athena and Hen going to space, there's plenty to talk about. In particular they talk about wanting the show to remember Eddie Diaz as a character and that the fans didn't invent Buddie out of nowhere. 9-1-1 has been dropping those hints for years. It's time to cash out. Also team dynamics are about to change with Chimney being Captain. Can he pull it off? Join them for the latest Tales From the 118! Lizzie and Lyra continue on with Season 2 of ABC's 9-1-1 with "Awful People," which proves that all these first responders are the best of us. (Well, most of them.) They encounter the worst of the worst sometimes and they still do their job. Also this episode sees Eva return to stir the pot and make Hen and Karen's life more difficult. Why? For reasons. Lizzie and Lyra continue on with Season 2 of ABC's 9-1-1 with "Stuck," which feels like the first Eddie episode and a truly important episode for Chimney's growth, as well. They go over Athena's choice, Christopher and Eddie, Chimney and Bobby, Maddie's decision to move out, and even take a moment (or five) to discuss why heteronormative glasses have kept so many people from seeing what the show has set up from the beginning with Buddie. Lizzie and Lyra continue on with Season 2 of ABC's 9-1-1 with a double episode rewatch of "7.1" and "Help Is Not Coming." The Earthquake emergency goes on to prove that Eddie Diaz and Maddie Buckley were the missing pieces this show needed. Both of them provide something different for Buck without JUST being there for Buck. They're their own characters. As for the rest of the 118, Hen continues to prove how strong she is and Bobby and Athena reach a new milestone in their relationship. Join them for the latest Tales From the 118! Lizzie and Lyra start Season 2 of ABC's 9-1-1! Of course they talk about the introduction of Eddie Diaz. It's the beginning of a new era for this show (and for Buck.) There's also our favorite Maddie Buckley making her debut! Which... also signals big changes for Buck. But besides that, this is when 9-1-1 really starts hitting its stride and where the missing pieces click into place, creating the show many love. And they break it all down in their rewatch! Lizzie and Lyra reach the end of 9-1-1 Season 1 with Episode 10 "A Whole New You." The end means we finally get to say goodbye to Abby. And in that goodbye, she proves to not trust Buck or their relationship, leaving him dangling while she's in Ireland. On the Bobby front, he's made his choice and moving forward, cementing a new start to his life. Even Karen and Hen are giving it another go. Why? Who knows besides a leap of faith. Lizzie and Lyra continue their rewatch of 9-1-1 Season 1 with Episode 9 "Trapped." And like the title says, everyone is trapped. From the mother and son in the elevator, to Athena in her handcuffs and Abby with her mom. All different forms of being trapped. Even Buck is in the mix, trapping himself in a relationship after some bad advice from Bobby. They said, what they said. But at least they're closer to the Season 1 finale aka where they say goodbye to Abby forever. Join them for the latest Tales From the 118! Lizzie and Lyra continue their rewatch of 9-1-1 Season 1 with Episode 8 "Karma's a B**ch." Bobby and Chimney share character defining moments that show that yes, these two are really close. And Bobby, who has been struggling with his purpose in life, he finds it. (All of this made Lizzie and Lyra cry.) On the Athena front, they're proud of her admitting the painful truth that her marriage is over. As for Hen and Karen, they're still a little lost as to why Hen cheated and feel Karen's pain deeply. Lizzie and Lyra continue their rewatch of 9-1-1 Season 1 with Episode 7 "Full Moon (Creepy AF)." And as much as they loved the hijinx feeling of some of these spooky calls the 118 had, this episode has problems born from the trials and tribulations of a freshman season. They're looking at you, writers room. Because some of the dialogue was ignorant and Hen and Karen deserved better than that a cheating storyline for one of the only LGBTQ+ couples on TV. Lizzie and Lyra are taking a step back from present 9-1-1 episodes and continuing their rewatch of Season 1! Next up is Episode 6 titled "Heartbreaker" aka a reminder of how much this show really tried to make Abby a thing, Buck and Abby a thing, and for a split second even a love triangle with Buck, Abby AND Bobby as a thing. Alongside that, they talk about what this Valentine's Day episode meant for Athena, who is dealing with the end of her marriage while also dealing with Melora, and what Chimney's return means for the show. Lizzie and Lyra continue their summer of delusion in a podcast episode all about their favorite 9-1-1 episodes. And right from the jump, it's clear to see that Lizzie and Lyra have pretty different tastes when it comes to favorite 9-1-1 episodes. Welcome to the summer of delusion where Bobby is alive and fanfiction is our safe space! For our first podcast after the 9-1-1 Season 8 finale Lizzie and Lyra are talking about our favorite 9-1-1 fanfics. And while the fics are mainly Buddie, we sit down and talk about why fanfiction is such a powerful space for community, where we started on our fanfic journey, and some of our favorite and most hated tropes and common themes in fic. We also give a shout-out to our favorite fanfics within the Buddie fanfic space, including the iconic Ice Cream Before Dinner by CloudyDaisies! Lizzie and Lyra dive into 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 18 "Seismic Shifts" aka the Season 8 finale. And while we're happy they leaned into the family dynamic of it all by the end of the episode, they dropped the ball on so many storylines and thought they could tie it all together with a montage. Eddie just needed someone to tell him to stay? Because as much as we loved Chimney's speech, are we going to ignore the whole Chris going to Texas because he saw his dad with a doppelganger of his mom? Buck also needed someone to tell him this was a family for him not to go through with the transfer? What about Maddie's postpartum storyline? Even Hen. What's the actual reason she didn't want to be Captain? Athena truly might be the only one that has an understandable arc in this Season 8 finale. And when you compare it to the rest of the episode, that's not a good thing.
