Episode 199: Fall Faves, Salute To Mark Volman September 19, 2025 Here’s another Tales Vinyl Tells for ya.  High, hello and welcome back to more of that great album rock of the 60s & 70s along with (sometimes) tunes on either sides of those decades. It’s almost fall here in middle Tennessee and Nashville.  Summer is winding down and it’s been one hot mothuh, and not in a good way.  The dogwoods have put out their little green pods which have grown into bigger red pods, and the season will change soon.  It’s on the way.  Today’s hour includes some songs about fall and there’s also my statement about the mess in these United States with a lying evil fascist in our White House.  They bricked over the Rose Garden and there’s so much gaudy fake gold nugget accents in the Oval they should offer barf bags at the door.  No more spray paint, ok??  And he wants a Nobel Prize and wants to name the Beloved Kennedy Center after himself or her.  What a flabby gas bag.  I can’t stand this guy, the Russian asset, ruining not running the US.  He’s the Master of Disaster, the dark lord (thinks he’s God, more like the antiChrist).  The first set goes out to Capt Bonespurs.  That’s my rant for today.  Mark Volman of the Turtles has entered the room next door, we remember him. and I’ve got a new one from Neil Young in this first set.  You’ll like this one! But there aren't any greasy fingerprints because we hold them by the edge, with the edge in the palms of our hands. And there's really not any candlewax or ashes on them. They are sacred. Episode 150: Finding The Good Stuff Of Growing Up Near The Ocean August 8, 2025 What are the good memories of your childhood? What music soothed you or really turned you on? For me, the ocean was 10 minutes away by car. 20 on bike. The aroma of the salt sea is evident hours away. It was soothing to see the calm flat blue, like glass. It was also exciting to see the ocean when it was full of waves. Summertime in South Florida was hot, hazy and humid, but the effects nature offered on the sea surface and the fun on the hot sand in one’s youth made meaningful memories. Some of the songs of summer are right here and they are not what you might expect. Episode 97: Gershwin Prize Winner July 6, 2025 And the Gershwin Prize goes to …….The aging process on humans is real. What we do and dont do may play a big part in how that process affects us or not. The vinyl LPs of that era and the new ones being purchased today will last a lot longer than the color in our hair or our smooth and youthful skin. All Im saying is that the age of rock is so wide and varied, from Elvis to Zappa, we have a lot of ground to cover in these short one-hour shows. And, who knows, maybe listening to the music of our youth may give a moment in time when we can enjoy those times or not. Admit it, it wasnt all bad. Episode 147: Juneteenth Special June 17, 2025 Here it is again. My annual salute to the celebration of the end of slavery on June 19, 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free even though the emancipation proclamation had formally freed them almost 2-1/2 years earlier. This was a very significant event but was replaced by Jim Crow laws that still today hamstring the lives of many previous slaves’ families. My hopes are that when you hear The Negro National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing, you’ll feel something inside reminding you of the concept of freedom and justice for all.
