Nothing new: need engineers and planners who are younger, more Progressive and more diverse!

"They feel cheated." Yeah, more like POC notice that EVERY SINGLE completed or proposed LRT project from Boston/Somerville to Hartford to NYC to Miami seems to STAY as LRT when it comes to White and wealthy neighborhoods, but gets scaled back to ($hitty) BRT in POC and poor neighborhoods. Plus, did she REALLY compare elevated heavy rail in Chicago built DECADES ago to modern BRT?? 🤦🏾 🤦🏾 If she went to a Dutch planning meeting and told people "buses are quieter than trains," she'd get LAUGHED out of the room!! More proof that we have a MASSIVE deficit in this country of urbanist Progressives of color on planning boards and in state government.

"Not everywhere is a transit desert unless people don't want to/can't drive there." *Amazed by transit density along Northeast Corridor compared to Texas* 🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾

You know it's the Netherlands when ambient bike and tram noise is the "worst" part of urban noise pollution!

Soooo close to a good commentary, but then it crashed and burned at the end, comparing the Hi-Line to the Big Dig!!

I gotta love how Brookings routinely sidesteps the racism and classism that went into DECADES of post-War suburbanization and freeway development and dismisses it as a series of "happy accidents" by planners and engineers simply bending to the whims of "polite society." Let's not talk about the millions of black and brown people red lined into crumbling, under-invested-in neighborhoods and then, in turn displaced from those neighborhoods in the name of "Urban Renewal" and the endless cycle of induced demand of freeway expansions. Let's also not talk about the overwhelming evidence that "one way in-one way out" post-War suburbanization was INTENDED to limit throughput, especially by "the other."
