Description
Hosted out of Pittsburgh, PA, Tapestry began in July of 2018, as, quite simply, a passion project of mine. I would consider myself a music geek in all senses of the word and wanted to have a platform for me to discuss music with other so-called music geeks.
Bringing my knowledge of progressive rock and metal, alongside other genres, and my love of conversation to the table, Tapestry is a podcast where I dig to get the answers about why music drives us to create. In each conversation I explore music, the thread that weaves between us all - an intricate fabric of the human experience.
This is way more than just a podcast about music. I hope you enjoy the show!

Welcome to Episode 64 of Tapestry - today I am joined by Mike Campanile and Kyle Weaver, who together embody the genre-defying band known as Syberia. They describe Syberia’s sound as “trash metal,” but it’s safe to say this Delaware County PA band has a lot more in store than just garbage. Kyle and Mike spoke with me about their upcoming album Revive, experiences in musical theater and music education, their forward-thinking approach to writing, the old-school punk ethos, and many more fascinating looks into their writing process.

Welcome to Episode 63 of Tapestry - today I am joined by Mike Eubanks and Nate Gilcher, two friends who met while attending Ohio University and who now host their own music podcast (Nate & Mike Talk Music). Mike now arranges drum charts for various college marching bands, plays in Athens, Ohio-based rock band Amethystone, and Nate is a radio host in Huntington, West Virginia. Between the two of them, they spilled their thoughts on the changing face of the music industry, lessons they have learned from being in marching band, the challenges and rewards of working in the radio industry, and on how they approach their own music podcast.

Welcome to Episode 61 of Tapestry. Today my friend Mark Jovanovich (Mark J) joined me today to change up my subject matter a bit - he is a guitarist who accompanies Pittsburgh-local Greek folk musicians, as well as performs in his own Balkan folk band, Četiri Jedan Dva. We discuss his background in music performance, his brief stint in Nashville playing with country musicians, how his Serbian heritage has informed his musical style, music theory and Western tonality, Eastern European culture, songs, Tamburitzan dances, and more.
Intro and outro music: ‘Temple of Passion,’ and ‘Macedonian Folk Guitar,’ performed by Mark J.
Other music included in the episode: ‘Psychopomp,’ performed by Thank You Scientist; ‘Μινορε,’ performed by Sotiri Tsourekis, Dimitri Spanos, and George Papazekos

Welcome to Episode 60 of Tapestry. Today the Fort Collins, Colorado-based group Los Toms - a psychedelic rock band with mixed influences - joined me to chat about everything from having an important realization about music at a King Gizzard show, to using projected fractals as visual enhancement to their live performances, lessons learned from performing music together, and the various Colorado and Montana-based festivals they have explored and promoted at.

Welcome to Episode 59 of Tapestry. One man band Jón Þór Sigurleifsson of Kilpréz blends progressive metal, mathcore, and plenty of sass. He reflected with me on how living in four different countries impacted his creative trajectory, what inspired him to set a time limit on writing and finishing his first album, the concepts of his debut EP, reframing what you’re running from versus what you need to run toward, and the thematic concepts on that same EP, The Patron Saint of Lost Causes.

Welcome to Episode 58 of Tapestry, where things got changed up a little bit. Jacob Waller, of the podcast "Underrated/Overhated," joined me for a combination discussion/roast/listening party/interview. In response to me listening to Van Der Graf Generator on an episode of his podcast, I brought him on mine in order to expose him to some of my favorite songs of all time. The Bristol-based musician, guitar teacher, and podcast host really scratched my itch for deep discussion and analysis about all things music - in exactly the way I intended to delve into when I began this show, myself. So enjoy our discussion!

Welcome to Episode 54! Today's episode was a fantastic conversation between myself and Frank Meyer, vocalist/guitarist of Los Angeles-based punk/rock group The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs. Frank impressed me with his extensive knowledge of everything punk and LA, and also discussed things such as wearing your band's influences on its sleeve, his diverse background in media including involvement with NBC, G4, Fender, and Schoolhouse Rock, on why you can't be both Macgyver and a perfectionist, and why failure is mandatory.

Welcome to Episode 51! Today I was joined by Matthew Ebel, also known as Avian Invasion ('Bird One.'). Based in Seattle, we talked about everything from touring as a keyboardist, to crafting an attention-grabbing persona, revealing the good in all humankind through music, transitioning from the Christian music world into making electronic house and dance music, and even some deep dives into the connection between - of all things - the furry community and the creative arts.

Welcome to Episode 50 of Tapestry - woohoo! If you've made it this far, thank you for sticking around. It was an honor to be joined by vocalist Gareth Mason, known best for their role as head lyricist and singer/screamer of the progressive metal band Slice the Cake, as well as Novena, and their new project, Fissures. Gareth was kind enough to chat with me about everything from their personal, painful journey which led to the creation of the 2016 deathcore epic, Odyssey to the West, among many other topics such as musical probability, flow state, free writing, copyright law, mental health, and much more.

Welcome to Episode 48! Today I saw down with fellow Pittsburghers, the gentlemen of fuck yeah, dinosaurs! These Steel City punk rockers answered all my questions about what it takes to capture the energy of punk music in a studio session, inspiration ranging from 80s cartoons to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, how the pandemic has affected crowd interaction and live music, and collaborating with a local brewery on their very own beer.

Here's a surprise drop.... Episode 46! Today's episode is a chat with Indigo Baloch and Brian Howe of the Pittsburgh-based darkwave and synth pop duo Some Faith. They enlightened me on how they successfully complement each other’s creative skills and handle promotion, filmmaking, songwriting, and mixing all internally, plus mused about stepping back and acknowledging what you’re naturally drawn to as artists and musicians, how poetry, astrology, and horror film culture combine to inspire their lyrics, and what Indigo does during mic checks.
