Teacher Talk New York is a podcast lead by two New York State certified educators. Topics range from Growth Mindset to Theatre Education to teacher evaluations and are presented in a discussion-based format. Mr. Matt Snyder is a High School Math teacher at Salmon River High school and has been teaching in one school or another for about 5 years. He has been a teacher's aid in a BOCES preschool room, a sixth grade Math and Science teacher, and holds an MST in Childhood Education as well as a CAS in College Teaching both from SUNY Potsdam. In the past, Matt has taught a Math Methods course at St. Laurence University.

Mrs. Rachel Bender is an Early Childhood Special Education Itinerant teacher who currently works for Children’s Therapy Network. She holds an MST Childhood from SUNY Potsdam and NYS certification in Elementary 1-6, Special Ed 1-6, Birth-2. In addition, Mrs. Bender also has a theatre education background and brings this into her profession to add to her instruction.

We discuss secondary trauma as it relates to the classroom and provide ideas for educators and others to keep their vessel full.
Rachel and Matt Talk about the learning pit and introduce it in a way that is memorable and useful for teachers to explain the learning journey to their students. Ideas for past successful lessons outside of mathematics are described especially in the areas of ELA and Social Studies.
Rachel and Matt discuss the definition, science, and implications of the growth mindset. A careful definition and real-life examples of the power of growth mindset thinking are discussed as well as some scientific research behind the growth mindset movement. We conclude with a brief discussion of carol Dweck's Tedtalk about the power of yet.
