Join us Monday evening, as members of our Tek Talk Team explore Internet Radio. Today we have so much at our fingertips with radio that can be heard world-wide. What do you listen to and how do you listen? On your PC’s or Mac, on your Phone, Lady A Device, Google Device, Stream? It should be a fascinating hour and we want your input.
Tek Talk welcomes David Goldfield to discuss the various email lists he has created, how he got into assistive technology, and his current role as a product manager with Comcast’s accessibility team. Some of the mailing lists David has created include Zoom-Users, Teams-Access for discussing Microsoft Teams, and, most recently, LarryKing-Fans for those interested in discussing their memories and sharing rare recordings of Larry King, particularly from his radio programs. He’ll place some additional emphasis on the Tech-VI list: why he created it and what he will and won’t distribute on it along with how to subscribe. He will also talk a little bit about how he got into assistive technology starting with the Kurzweil Reading Machine in 1978 to when he entered the field professionally with Blazie Engineering, followed by his two roles training visually impaired children and adults to his current role as a product manager with Comcast’s accessibility team.

Ever wonder what became of the Sendero GPS subscription apps, Seeing Eye GPS, RNIB Navigator and Guide Dogs NSW? There is one word to describe them now: free, free, free! GoodMaps is pleased to announce the impending release of these former Sendero apps in all respective markets under the name GoodMaps Outdoors. The apps will now be free and an Android version will be released in the next few days in addition to the currently live iOS version.
GoodMaps Outdoors
GoodMaps Outdoors is an excellent complement to GoodMaps Explore, which features a simple interface and indoor navigation where available. GoodMaps Outdoors has features not available in other GPS apps such as:
detailed intersection description,
built-in route directions with detailed turning prompts,
a bread-crumb waypoint route mode,
and the benefit of features suggested by users over the past eight years as well as the rich expertise of Mike May and the GoodMaps team.

Nathan Tech is Nathan’s personal website which he founded back in 2013. Since then it has gone through several evolutions from Audio games, to Multi-User Dungeons and now to where it is today, software and tutorials. It should be noted straight off that the website still supports Games and the Multi-User Dungeon, however the main focus these days is the accessible software and tutorials. In the presentation he will begin by summarising just what software he offers, ranging from Educational, to Utility, to Media Player and Podcatcher. He hopes to delight us by expanding then into the Software Archive and tutorials on offer, before swooping us back round for a more in-depth look into one of the biggest projects to date which is Calliope. Calliope is the most accessible out of the box media player designed at blind screen reader users on the market with a simple, yet feature packed interface which aims to suit as many needs as possible.
