"Tell Me Another One" is the ArtsSmarts Storytelling Podcast of Holy Cross Elementary School, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. From January to May 2008, grade 4 to 6 students worked with storyteller Dale Jarvis to learn and tell stories from Newfoundland and around the world. These are their tales. Download and enjoy!

My story is about John Henry. John Henry was a steel driller at an underground railroad. Every day he would drill steel plates and he drilled 24 plates in one hour. The day came and a salesman came to give John Henry a big yellow steel driller machine. It could drill faster than any steel drill. So John Henry started to drill to see if the machine would work. So it was a deal and John Henry started to drill again. The crowd started to cheer, so they cheered and cheered and cheered until it was a great comotion. What the crowd didn't know was that John Henry was on the ground with a big bang. Then the crowd stopped cheering. A guard rushed over to his side but was too late. This story is about a fisherman and his wife who sail across the bay in their tiny boat and make a house. When they are finished the house, they get disturbed almost every night by a mysterious stranger...* Listen to Jessica's ghost story.

My story is about a fox that is always getting tricked by a rabbit. But then fox models a lady rabbit then covers it in tar thus creating a tar baby. Rabbit gets drawn into a trap by punching the tar baby when he gets angry. Rabbit tricks him back by saying he doesn't want to be thrown into the torn patch, but he really does want to be thrown in there.* Adam tells the tale of tar baby!
My story is about a turtle who challenges rabbit to a one-on-one race. He puts on a feather and also puts them on his family, and they go to different places on the track. When rabbit runs, the other turtles go out ahead of rabbit. Then turtle comes out at the end and wins. * Zachary tells the story of a clever turtle.
My story is about an elephant who asked a crocodile "what do you have for lunch?" When the elephant walked up to the crocodile, he bit the elephant's nose, let go, and the elephant's nose remained long. * Joshua tells Rudyard Kipling's tale of a nosey little elephant.

My story is called The Frog Prince. It's about three daughters and they each go down to get water, and it's cloudy. So when they are about to pour it back in, a frog appears and says if you'll be my sweetheart, then I will give you water clear. The third daughter said yes. So the night came and the frog slept under her pillows. This happened two more nights. When she woke up on the third night there was a beautiful king there. My story is about a man named Crusty Harry. He is a very angry man. He says that he doesn't believe in ghosts. Crusty Harry has black hair. One night when he is walking home, he sees a ghost. My story is Stone Soup. Stone Soup is about a hobo going into a woman's farmhouse and tricking her into making him soup, by telling her the stone he had was magical.* Listen to John's recipe for Stone Soup.
This story is about a prince who needed to find a princess. He found one hitchhiking along the highway. He picked her up and let her sleep for the night. He laid down 20 mattresses and 20 feather beds and put a pea under the bottom of all those mattresses and feather beds. If she felt it, they would get married.
