Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard also made it a good week for this season’s breakthrough acts, winning Basel to capture his second title of the season too.Meanwhile, Qinwen Zheng continued her stellar season with more silverware in Tokyo and Olga Danilovic took home the Guangzhou trophy, six years after her maiden tour title. The trio are also joined by coach Patrick Mouratoglou to talk Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Finals as well as discuss the recent news of Maria Sharapova’s induction into the Tennis Hall of Fame and whether this is justified in light of her doping ban, and they reflect on the permanent addition of on court coaching to the ATP and WTA Tours as of January next year.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. And another awesome rivalry comes to an end! This week, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic played their final match on a tennis court in Saudi Arabia at the Six Kings Slam to bring the curtain down on their epic head to head. Join Joel and Chris as they reflect on this match up along with all the other tennis talk from the week as Tommy Paul, Daria Kasatkina and a 36 year old (!) Roberto Bautista Agut won titles on the tour across Europe and Asia. Chris also gives the inside scoop on what it’s like to attend the Nordic Open in Stockholm - and whether he was able to track down Magnus Norman for an interview. Elsewhere, Danielle Collins announced that she will play on the WTA Tour next year after postponing her end of season retirement, Aryna Sabalenka took over from Iga Swiatek as the World Number 1 at the top of the rankings, and we remark on Dominic Thiem’s last dance on a tennis court as he plays his final match at the Vienna Open.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Get the tissues ready! Joel, Kim and Chris are back together to catch up on all things tennis, leading with the hot story that legend of the game Rafa Nadal will be hanging up his rackets in retirement at the end of this season. They reflect on this sad news as well as looking back on the past week’s tournaments which saw Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka continue their hot streaks and pick up the titles in Shanghai and Wuhan respectively. In other news, the trio debate the news from The AELTC that Wimbledon will replace line judges with electronic calling from 2025 and moving the weekend singles finals to a late afternoon slot. Plus they review the now confirmed line up for the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia, and controversial player behaviour - or as we like to call it men behaving badly - comes under the spotlight in the Mailbag section.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. The Asian swing is in full flow and what a treat we had in Beijing as Carlos Alcaraz battled back from the brink to defeat World Number 1 Jannik Sinner in a final set tiebreak. And that wasn't even the biggest news of the week for the Italian who expressed his 'surprise' at the World Anti-Doping Agency looking for a lengthy ban over his positive drug tests.Elsewhere in Beijing, the WTA has reached the quarter-finals stage as Sabalenka continues to run riot whilst Paula Badosa is also making a charge up the ranking towards the Top 10. But there was despair for Naomi Osaka who retired against Coco Gauff with a back injury. And finally, there was more positive news for Wimbledon as they got the green light for a 39 court expansion with their ambition to create a three week festival of tennis in SW19. As always, Joel and Chris delve into the mailbag to talk Saudi exhibitions and one of our trickiest Mysterious Players yet.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. The US Open 2024 Finals are upon us! After a fortnight of thrills, spills and few a shock along the way, Joel, Kim and Chris are back to look back at the men’s and women’s singles finals. Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka have made it two hard court slams from two this year, with straight sets victories over first time American finalists Taylor Fritz and Jessica Pegula respectively. The trio delve into the key talking points from both finals, as well as celebrating some success for Great Britain with Mika Stojsavljevic becoming the first British girls' Grand Slam champion in 15 years. Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson also righted their recent Wimbledon heartbreak by clinching the Men’s Doubles title at Flushing Meadows with victory over Krawietz and Puetz. And lastly, the latest winner of Collect A Set is announced, which once again came down to a tiebreak…!FUNGIBALLJoin the Revolution in Tennis Gaming with Fungiball at www.fungiball.io! 🎾 Collect, Trade, Compete every week– all while backing your favorite players on a cutting-edge tennis game.Cryptocurrencies and NFTS are unregulated in some markets including the UKNFT profits may be subject to taxation such as Capital Gains TaxThe value of investments is variable and can go down as well as upAdditional fees may applySOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Semis, semis, semis and there was a bit of everything on show at the US Open - including a bit of Jack Draper vom on the tennis court. That aside, it was Jannik Sinner who reached his first Grand Slam final in Flushing Meadows with a straight sets victory over the Brit in conditions that pushed both competitors to the limit. And the Italian will go on to face Taylor Fritz who became the first American since 2009 to reach a Major final (Andy Roddick at Wimbledon!) with a five set win over Frances Tiafoe who was running on empty by the end. And in the women’s draw, we may not have got the Battle of the Billionaire daughters but Jessica Pegula powered into her debut Slam final with a three set win over Karolina Muchova to set up an intriguing duel with Aryna Sabalenka who is chasing her second Major title of the season.Lots to discuss as always with Joel, Kim and Chris including a look ahead to the two finals this weekend and who we think will come out as the victors.FUNGIBALLJoin the Revolution in Tennis Gaming with Fungiball at www.fungiball.io! The Americans are coming for a US Open title with 4 American players into the last 4 across the men’s and women’s events. Could it be an all American double and one of Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe taking home the title along with Jessica Pegula or Emma Navarro? Trying to stop the American party in New York is World Number 1 Jannik Sinner who got his revenge over Daniil Medvedev for his Wimbledon loss and set up a semi-final against Britain’s Jack Draper. Draper is the first British player to make the semi-final’s since Andy Murray won the title in 2012. Can he match the achievement this weekend? Elsewhere Karolina Muchova made it into the last 4 for the second successive year having missed the first two slams of the season through injury. She had to battle a stomach bug as well as Haddad Maia but made sure she sealed her place in the last 4. Joel and Chris also make predictions as to who will win the semi-finals and what the scoreline will be so make sure you let us know if you agree with them!FUNGIBALLJoin the Revolution in Tennis Gaming with Fungiball at www.fungiball.io! Joel and Kim are back to catch up on the 4th round action from Flushing Meadows, New York, as the Quarter Final line ups start to take shape. With Britain’s Jack Draper through in seamless fashion, Americans Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz giving home fans something to shout about, and Sacha Zverev still on course for a maiden slam win, the Final 8 is shaping up nicely.Meanwhile, in the ladies draw, Qinwen Zheng battles through a late night finish to defeat Donna Vekic in a rematch of the Olympic Final last month, in form American Jessica Pegula clinches her berth in yet another Slam Quarter, and defending Champion Coco Gauff falls to countrywoman Emma Navarro in a 3 set display of poor execution. They also give a mid-tournament Collect A Set update, reflect on the dodgy video review call in the Kalinskaya-Haddad Maia match, and admire Karolina Muchova’s brilliant run through the draw with her latest victory over the very consistent Jasmine Paolini.FUNGIBALLJoin the Revolution in Tennis Gaming with Fungiball at www.fungiball.io! The second week is set at the US Open in Flushing Meadows, without Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz. Words we never thought we would be saying! Alexei Popyrin got his revenge after losing to Novak Djokovic twice at slams already this year. This means Novak Djokovic is without a slam for the first time since 2017 and the first time since 2002 that one of the Big 3 have not won a slam. Now that the draw has opened it up it presents a big opportunity for slam winner Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev as well as home hopes Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe to be the first US male winner since Andy Roddick in 2004! On the women’s side the top seeds had no trouble racing through to Week 2, with Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Sabalenka and Paolini all breezing through to Round 4. Muchova and Wozniacki are on the comeback trail and have made it to the fourth round for the second year in a row despite not having the most time on court in preparation. Joel and Chris also look ahead to some of next week’s clashes and revisit their Tennis Weekly predictions and make new ones based on the form of the top players in Week 1 and the luck of the draw in New York. FUNGIBALLJoin the Revolution in Tennis Gaming with Fungiball at www.fungiball.io! The tennis world is in a state of SHOCK... as it's announced World Number 1 Jannik Sinner has escaped a drugs ban after two failed tests earlier in the year. Join Joel and Chris as they react to this bombshell news that has rocked the ATP Tour as they get to grips with what it means, how the locker room have reacted (Nick Kyrgios has unsurprisingly not held back!), what will tennis fans think and what impact will this news have on Sinner's chances at the US Open which begins in just over a week's time.It had been a stellar week for the Italian as he captured his second M1000 title of the season in Cincinnati along with Aryna Sabalenka who steam-rolled her way to the women's title without dropping a set to rise back up to Number 2 in the world on the WTA Tour. Elsewhere, Carlos Alcaraz got ANGRY and smashed up a racket for the first time in his career (probably) and it was a week to forget for umpire Greg Allensworth with big match point controversy for Jack Draper and Felix Auger Aliassime. It's all hotting up for the US Open so join us to cool off - and see how Chris does in the latest instalment of Joel's game!Honest Sport - Italy's Clostebol Doping Crisis articleSOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Tennis Weekly Podcast! It’s time to talk tennis and unpack all the events from the National Bank Canadian Open (Tournoi de tennis du Canada) on the ATP and WTA Tour which saw Alexi Popyrin a surprise winner of his maiden Masters 1000 title in Montreal, upsetting Andrey Rublev in the final. Popyrin was the first Australian Masters 1000 winner since Lleyton Hewitt in 2003! On the women’s side more surprises as unseeded Amanda Anisimova made it an all American final against defending Champion and eventual winner Jessica Pegula. Jessie Pegula has now won the title in both Montreal and Toronto a feat that not many have achieved.Elsewhere Joel and Chris discuss Rafael Nadal skipping the US Open and will he retire at the Laver Cup in Berlin like Roger Federer as well as what is the most unbreakable record in tennis. Is it Nadal’s 14 French Open titles, Novak’s Grand Slam tally or Steffi Graf’s gold slam year. They also talk about Stefanos Tsitispas firing his father as his coach and preview the Cincinnati Open where Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are back in action after winning Olympic medals and pick their champions ahead of the US Open getting underway! SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.
