Terms of Service: A Pornhub Podcast

This episode features Paul Cambria, a criminal defense lawyer known for his work on First Amendment Cases. We wanted to speak with Cambria especially because of his long history working with the adult industry, with clients from Larry Flynt to Playboy, Vivid, Evil Angel, and nearly every major porn studio of the 90s and 2000s. We spoke with Paul about what it was like working on legendary first amendment cases, his long relationship with Larry Flynt (including being with him the day he was shot), and why porn is so often caught up in issues of free speech. We look at how the legal landscape around pornography has changed with the advent of the internet and discuss the infamous Cambria List - a set of Dos and Don'ts that circulated in the porn industry meant to help studios navigate censorship but which ended up being a guide for police and prosecutors attempting to crack down on the industry.

For our first episode we speak with author and journalist Taylor Lorenz, a current columnist for the Washington Post, who covers internet culture and technology. Her recent book, Extremely Online: The Untold Story of Fame, Influence and Power on the Internet, is a social history of the internet—revealing how online influence and the creators who amass it have reshaped our world, online and off. We talk about internet trolls, new forms of internet censorship including looming age verification laws and the TikTok ban, “Algo Speak” and how going viral is a double edged sword.

This episode features Anna Delvey, a media and pop culture personality known for public scandal. For this episode, we visit Anna while on house arrest, and speak with her about the pitfalls of notoriety and scandal, how the media has depicted her, and being an early influencer. Anna shares behind-the-scenes insights into the popular series about her, Inventing Anna, and gives us a detailed report of life on Rikers Island. We speak at length about her new role as a free speech advocate, specifically her current lawsuit against the US government for revoking her ability to access social media.

This episode features the iconoclastic fashion designer, Luis De Javier. Working at the intersection of queer, rave and sex culture, De Javier is a relative newcomer to the fashion scene who has made a splash with his sexy, provocative designs and major celebrity appeal.
