Description

You know how every day someone asks "how are you?" And even if you’re totally dying inside, you just say "fine," so everyone can go about their day? This show is the opposite of that. Hosted by author and notable widow (her words) Nora McInerny, this is a funny/sad/uncomfortable podcast about talking honestly about our pain, our awkwardness, and our humanness, which is not an actual word. From American Public Media.

For many people, the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis was the latest graphic instance of a Black American being killed by the police -- and his homicide the most recent national example of historic, institutional discrimination against people of color and indigenous groups. Our colleagues at Call to Mind -- an APM / MPR initiative to inform and mobilize new conversations about mental health -- recently put a spotlight on the trauma of Black Americans and how it intersects with policing. Today, we're sharing the panelists' important conversations with you. Thank you to: - Angela Davis, host of MPR News with Angela Davis on Minnesota Public Radio. I can relate to ALL of this! One day knowing who I was and then realizing how much being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses was part of my being, my fiber that when I left, I didn’t know who I was anymore! Also, it almost happened in 1 day! I woke up a JW and ended the day as just a person who used to be!

I love many of your podcasts but this one, wow, Kate Bowler hanging out with Nora are the pithy empathic friends I don't know but somehow miss during the pandemic . The exchange about trying so hard and still feeling like a failure ... "I'm from Winnepeg, I sled on garbage..." howling. Her calling out of the competitive culture of *positive* woman is spot on also. Tears of laughter and deep sadness for the fragility of life and empathy for this cool ass lady.
