Originating from Irmo, SC, Beverly's journey began in the local school system, culminating in her graduation from Irmo High School in 1976. Pursuing higher education, she majored in business administration at Johnson C Smith in Charlotte, NC. Beverly's professional journey kicked off at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, where she contributed to the administration section of their Training Command. Transitioning to finance at Fort Jackson in Columbia, Beverly's career reached new heights when she became a tax collector with the IRS. Her expertise and commitment to financial matters eventually led her to retire as the St. Louis/East St. Louis Regional Territory Manager in 2017. Post-retirement, Beverly returned to Columbia, finding solace in family bonds. In 2019, however, her life took an unexpected turn with financial irregularities and memory lapses, leading to a transformative diagnosis. Undeterred, Beverly remains resolute, drawing strength from her determination and unwavering support system. Even on challenging days, she finds solace in cherished activities like playing tennis with friends and bowling with family every Friday night. Bonnie, married to Marc since 1982, embarked on an adventurous journey, moving to Montana just three days after their wedding. They share a life filled with outdoor joys, camping, rafting, and riverside moments. Proud grandparents, their grandson affectionately calls Bonnie "Jama." Known among friends as the "Entertainment Director," Bonnie's creativity shines in event planning. Professionally, Bonnie devoted herself to business administration, notably serving as a Program Analyst with the Department of Homeland Security for 18 years. In March 2023, Bonnie faced another challenge with an early-stage frontotemporal degeneration diagnosis. Undeterred, Bonnie sought help within the online community, becoming a staunch advocate for those with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and dementia. Phyllis's impactful policy work includes past roles in the Ontario Dementia Advisory Board, Advisory Group for the Ontario Dementia Strategy, and the Early Stage Working Group. Beyond policy, Phyllis co-authored multiple research articles and is a sought-after keynote speaker on the lived experience of dementia, human rights, and anti-stigma education. Her influence reached international platforms, with appearances at the United Nations on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Senate of Canada's Social Affairs, Science, and Technology, and the World Health Organization on Non-communicable diseases. Currently, Phyllis serves as a patient advisory to the Alzheimer’s Board for Canada. Meet Jay, an inspiring individual with a rich background in local government and a powerful voice in the fight against Alzheimer's. With 25 years of dedicated service in local municipalities, Jay's career was marked by significant achievements, including the development of nationally recognized Strategic Plans and Performance Dashboards. His resilience shone through when he secured over $45 million in Federal grants post two devastating hurricanes and pioneered a successful summer employment program for underserved teens and disabled veterans. However, Jay's path took an unexpected turn when he began noticing details slipping at work. The turning point came during a public presentation as the Assistant City Manager, where he struggled to recall department names. Concerned, Jay sought the expertise of a friend and neurologist, leading to a diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), later changed to younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Undeterred, Jay transformed his personal challenge into a platform for advocacy. Over the past four years, he raised over $175,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association and actively participated in the LEADS Study, contributing to research on younger-onset Alzheimer’s. As a former National Board Director for the Alzheimer’s Association, Jay used his position to foster a dialogue, educating the public and reducing the stigma surrounding Alzheimer's. Jay's commitment extended to the airwaves as a host of two radio shows on WIDU 99.7 fm: "Honest Conversations with Kev and Jay" and "Election Central." His impact resonated nationally, serving on the Alzheimer’s Association’s National Board of Directors until October 2021 and like Laurie & Terrie he is also a former National Early-Stage Advisory Group Member. Jay's advocacy efforts garnered widespread attention, with features in esteemed publications such as the NY Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Politico, The Economist, Chicago Tribune, Bloomberg News, and Parade Magazine. In March 2023, Jay was honored as the Alzheimer's Association National Advocate of the Year, a testament to his unwavering dedication to raising awareness, promoting research, and advocating for the inclusion of underrepresented populations in clinical trials.
