Funny? Or Scary?

Terror in Turtlenecks is both. We have truly scary, unnerving stories that will chill you to the bone. And we have goofy, funny, silly storioes that will not just tickle your funny bone, they'll cuddle your entire skeleton.

BRAND NEW WRITING!

We're very proud to present all new pieces of work by talented writers, read by equally talented actors, or by the writers themselves if they're any good at reading and have passed our stringent tests involving a room filled with scary things, like household bills and puppets that are falling apart a bit. And of course, they'll be wearing turtlenecks when they record them, and damnit, when they write them. We're writing this while wearing turtlenecks. That's how committed to this we are.

Because this isn't just another spoken word podcast. This is TERROR IN TURTLENECKS!

It's our 50th Episode! In this bumper-length special episode, we go act-by-act, hour-by-hour through the Live Aid Wembley performance from the summer of 1985, and we break out into spontaneous terrible Sean Connery impressions. We feed Queen to the Overrated Machine, question why Sting is ever allowed on stage, and take The Who to task for their poetry. It's a wild, unruly show, and it's surely what Bob Geldolf would have wanted if he had any idea of who we are, which he doesn't. ...
In this jumbo-sized episode, we mop up Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? by taking a look at who wasn't on the recording, and we come up with a few conspiracy theories that probably don't touch reality at any point. Then we feed USA for Africa to the voracious Overrated Machine, and wonder (rather cynically) if the money from these charity projects reached Ethiopia, if long-term help was put in place, and if ultimately all that was achieved was to create a monster in the abomination th...
In the first part of our multi-episode deep dive into Band Aid/USA For Africa/Live Aid Wembley & Philadelphia, we head back to the winter of 1984 and look at Bob Geldolf's & Midge Ure's passionate response to the Ethiopan famine, the charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? by the superband Band Aid. And Jeremy is with us! Hooray!
We conclude our mini series on photographic album covers with a look at controversial album covers. We discuss Grunge babies and flannel shirts, heroin and capitalism, David Bowie's testicles, and those Scandinavian black metal idiots who burned down churches. Content warning: suicide, heroin addiction, inappropriate imagery, Wayne's beard.
Album covers are great, and so varied, and so integral to the way we used to experience music. The photo on the album cover of Rumours by Fleetwood depicts beautiful Californian Stevie Nicks in her classic and iconic Rhiannon persona, and lanky Brit drummer Mick Fleetwood in a pony tail and with two big balls dangling between his legs. As Neil frantically shovels mountains of coal into the yawning, hungry furnace of the increasingly malevolent Overrated Machine, and Wayne rants about h...
This time round, as Neil frantically works the bellows and turns all the dials on the Overrated Machine to 11, and Wayne's lapses of memory begin to become a very real problem, and Vince exhausts all his patience and can't even tell 12 inches from 33 revolutions, and we all ponder on what exactly awaits us on the long, lonely highway at night, and we can't get to grips with just how big The Eagles are, and... well, it's quite the episode.
In the second and sexiest and most thrilling part of our mission to look at all things 007, Secret Agents Barrett (shaken) and Stadon (not stirred) fall out of aircraft without parachutes, flirt with MILF secretaries and fight insane criminal masterminds on remote volcanic islands as they discuss Bond toys, Warren Beaty, Paul McCartney's syntax, Adele, and the future of the Bond franchise.
Is I Feel Fine Overrated? (No!) As an offshoot of our main show, we discuss a Beatles track and Vince fills in the gaps, reading from Ian MacDonald's unsurpassed 'Revolution in The Head - The Beatles' Records and The Sixties'. This time we take a look at the infectious and upbeat 'I Feel Fine', the Fabs' eighth single, which was a hit in late November and into December 1964. It was the 5th highest selling single of the year! Neil attempts to outfox Jeremy with a Beatles question (or...
Happy New Year! A week later than planned, here's the 4th - but by no means least - of our bonus festive episodes! Neil. Silver Bells. An explosive combination!
Happy New Year! A week later than planned, here's the 3rd bonus episode for the festive season. Vince and Jer braved the elements, irate neighbours and jobsworth law enforcement officers to record on the roof of the Overrated Studio. What do they discuss? Why, The Beatles Get Back Part 3, of course!
Happy New Year! A week later than planned, here's the second of four festive bonus episodes! Vince talks about The Beatles Get Back Part 2
Happy New Year! A week later than planned, here's the first of four festive season bonus episodes! Jeremy talks about The Beatles Get Back Part 1
Season 2, Episode 6 - Is Christmas Overrated? (20th December 2021) Merry Christmas! In our bumper festive show, we're joined again by Neil (wearing a horrible jumper) as we rather blasphemously ask: Is Christmas Overrated? We pull crackers, quaff eggnog and mulled wine, and munch merrily on mince pies as we discuss and rate: 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' by Brenda Lee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is4NQkUN3AI 'Christmas Wrapping' by The Waitresses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...
Season 2, Episode 5a - 'Long, Long, Long' by The Beatles (5th November 2021) As an offshoot of our main show, we discuss a Beatles track and Vince fills in the gaps, reading from Ian MacDonald's unsurpassed 'Revolution in The Head - The Beatles' Records and The Sixties'. This time (in the spirit of Halloween), we take a look at George Harrison's spooky contribution to the sprawling White Album, 'Long, Long, Long'. Vince attempts to outfox Jeremy with a Beatles question (or two) from The Be...
Season 2, Halloween Bonus: Deciphering the Lyrics to 'Ghostbusters' (29th October 2021) Happy Halloween! Bonus episode as a trick or treat - we fail miserably to get to grips with the meaning behind Ray Parker Jnr's incoherent, gibberish lyrics to his monster 80's hit, 'Ghostbusters' by Ray Parker Jnr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe93CLbHjxQ
Season 2, Episode 5 - Is Goth Overrated? (October 20th 2021) Happy Halloween! We apply kohl eyeliner, paint our nails black and drink cider as we go Goth for the spooky season. We review and rate 'Happy House' by Siouxsie and the Banshees https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amR6-neQBPE '100 Hundred Years' by The Cure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKav_kXO97A 'She Sells Sanctuary' by The Cult https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQS4TzB0EvU Plus we play a ghoulish Overrated Death Game!
Season 2, Episode 4a - 'I'll Follow the Sun' by The Beatles (October 11th 2021) In this mini episode, continuing on from Episode 4 -Is Fire Overrated?, we discuss 'I'll Follow the Sun', and play a very rare (and scratchy) fan recording of the song from when the Fabs played it live on the BBC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bqgT_x9W-I Is Beatles for Sale the most underrated Beatles album? Vince certainly thinks so. In McCartney's Mullets and Lennon's Hats, we ponder 'Dylanesque' he...
Season 2, Episode 4 - Is Fire Overrated? (September 27th 2021) This time, we turn our attention to Fire and ask, 'Is it Overrated?' The three tracks chosen to represent the theme are: 'September' by Earth, Wind and Fire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cKtSlsYVEU 'Fire Brigade' by The Move https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GHe5BPb6Yg 'Fire' by The Jimi Hendrix Experience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m6SZhYt-d0&list=PLglUu7rOaMDvV15pylVp6iC2Wkkf7q2sy&index=6 Along the w...
Season 2, Episode 3a - 'Flying' by The Beatles (3rd September 2021) In our regular mini episode, we discuss The Beatles track 'Flying', an instrumental piece from the often derided 'Magical Mystery Tour' film. Vince fills in the gaps reading from Ian Macdonald's unsurpassed 'Revolution in The Head - The Beatles' Records and The Sixties'. We have a Beatles question for Jeremy, and we take a look at this day in Beatledom. 'Flying' - The Beatles https://youtu.be/Z1ONJQLdZrk
Season 2, Episode 3 - Is Flying Overrated? (20th August 2021) Flying! Is it overrated? Our picks for songs tenuously linked to the theme of flying are: 'Up Up and Away ' by the 5th Dimension https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKkNlwpajNk 'Flying on the Ground is Wrong' by Buffalo Springfield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBn3Hu5FYSM 'Rocket Man' by Elton John https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nLA-sTpSH0 We also try to decipher the lyrics to 'Life is Life' by Opus, bu...
