Texx Talks Season 1 Look Back   For this episode we will be looking back at some of our favourite moments from Season 1, reveal what went into the recording of each episode, and hit you with some exciting announcements in anticipation of Season 2.    But first, we think it’s high time we properly introduce ourselves.    While almost everyone who knows our host calls her Texx, her real name is Tecla Ciolfi and she’s been a part of the South African music industry for the last 10 years - namely as the founder of Texx and the City, a music website that spotlights the best underground & unsigned musicians in South Africa across multiple genres.   Texx Talks was born when Texx and producer, Jonathan Inggs, got together at Van Hunks in Cape Town for a day drinking session. Cut to another day drinking session a few months later at The Royale in Joburg, and Texx Talks was born.   Just like Texx and The City, the aim behind this podcast is to spotlight the multiple genres that make South Africa, and to a larger extent, Africa, such a rich musical melting pot.   Together with our second producer Matthew Loots, who edits Texx Talks to perfection, and Al Clapper who assists in doing research on each interview subject, we really could not have asked for a better team.   So now let's LOOK BACK.   Outro Song: “Should I just Call?” - Androgenius  Apple Music and Spotify    We are collaborating with The Good Times Co. for this Episode:   STREAM TEXX’S MEGA SEASON 1 LOOK BACK PLAYLIST   Established in 2019, and founded on two decades of experience in the South African entertainment industry, The Good Times Co is a modern management, bookings and event concept agency that seeks to pioneer a way for its eclectic heritage in Europe.   At its core, The Good Times Co fosters a culture of collaboration that not only guides its vision of offering African talent a gateway to Europe, but also informs its passion to provide European events, festivals and venues with the opportunity to work with exciting and globally relevant music from the continent.    OUR BRAND NEW TECHNICAL PARTNERS: TOMS - The Only Music Shop   FIND OUT MORE:   Keep on talking with Texx Talks at: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Keep the good time rolling with The Good Times Co at: Facebook, Instagram, Important Links
Tresor Riziki is arguably the biggest pop star in South Africa at the moment, having worked tirelessly on building his musical career from the moment he arrived in Durban from Goma in the DRC.    Renowned for his distinct sound, his songs reflect a peregrine of life shared by so many who live in Africa, but few are able to express their experiences in a way that he does – capturing an ear so universally and directly.   From being warmly welcomed by Durban's music scene when he arrived in SA, to striking lifelong creative partnerships and friendships with rapper AKA and singer-songwriter Matthew Field (Beatenberg), to penning historic deals with Universal Media Publishing, Tresor's transition from pop star to global entrepreneur is truly inspirational.   Outro Song: “Thrill”  Apple Music and Spotify    Featured tracks:   04:08 : Al Caiola - Mazurka Medley Youtube 06:41 : Moonchild Sanelly - F-BOYZ Apple Music  Youtube  06:52 : Holly Rey - Wanna Be Apple Music  Youtube 17:38 : DJ Clock & Beatenberg - Pluto Apple Music  Youtube 18:18 : Tresor - Mount Everest Apple Music  Youtube 21:50 : Tresor - Electric Night Apple Music  Youtube 29:35 : ESPN - It's Epic  34:45 : Hugh Masekela - Grazing in the Grass Apple Music  Youtube 43:48 : Disney - It's a small world Apple Music  Youtube     Extra reading:   Tresor’s Incredible story circa 2014 - Therese Owen for IOL Tresor’s first band- Maisha “Live at Celebrate Durban” circa 2008 Jacquel Music Group Universal Music Group South Africa Splashy Fen Music Festival White Mountain Music Festival   Keep up the hustle with Tresor at: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or his Website   His latest single: “THRILL”   None of this would have been possible without our partners STFD Studios and Mixroom Studios. Texx Talks featuring BCUC

The music of BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) resonates strongly with a sense of spirituality and deals with the past, the present and the future of the people of South Africa.     Striving to rectify western assumptions and shine a light on post-apartheid South Africa from a contemporary perspective, there are few SA bands like BCUC, who draw deep inspiration from indigenous music, infusing them with raps and a very raw rock ‘n’ roll attitude.   And there are even fewer who can claim to have played Glastonbury, Roskilde and Afropunk and recorded with living legends Saul Williams and Femi Kuti.   Outro Song: “Sikhulekile” - BCUC feat. Femi Kuti Apple Music and Youtube Try and keep up with BCUC at: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.   None of this would have been possible without our partners STFD Studios and Mixroom Studios. Dave Scott, aka The Kiffness, can be best described as a South African meme and music culture tastemaker. From his roots remixing his school song, to taking on the SABC with his #NoPayNoPlay campaign, to creating a mashup that was incorporated into Fatboy Slim’s set - Dave has never shied away from being quirky or controversial.    His development as an artist can only be described as DIY, having essentially turned his band into a brand, while always being fully open to sharing his hard-earned industry insights with the music community at large.    Outro Song “Aurora” - David Scott. Zolani Mahola can be best described as a South African national treasure. Over her 17 years in the industry, she established herself as the frontwoman of award-winning Afro-pop group Freshlyground, before reinventing herself under her solo moniker as “The One Who Sings” at the end of 2019.    From getting deported by authoritarian regimes to feeling your lowest whilst on top, Zolani’s journey is one one of boundless optimism and heartfelt glimpses into the mind of this talented storyteller.   Outro Song: “Here is a Thing”   Follow Zolani's journey on her Blog, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
