The squad revisits Emilia’s ever-shrinking Star Wars blindspot with a discussion and dissection of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Soon, she’ll rise as a padawan no more, but a fully fledged Jedi…hopefully. We also react to the firehose of cinematic universe news from San Diego Comic Con. We report on everything you need to know for DC, Lord of the Rings, Sandman, Dungeons and Dragons, and of course, Marvel. 'The Umbrella Academy' has been entertaining audiences with impending apocalypses for three seasons thanks to the amazing work of series Creator, Showrunner, EP, and Writer Steve Blackman. 'Ms. Marvel' Showrunner, Head Writer, and Executive Producer, Bisha K. Ali steps into The 'Verse! to discuss her work on the Disney+ Marvel series. We cover her origin story as a video gamer and dreamer to Hollywood writer to 'Loki' writer all the way to head writer on 'Ms. Marvel.' Ali's work on the series has focused on telling a superhero story we can all relate to, her main character Kamala Khan is a teenager growing up in America who just happens to have superpowers. We will not put spoilers in this description, but the further the series goes on, the more it becomes about family - it is quite beautiful. The 'Verse! Squad covers a lot with Ali, the difference between the comic books powers and the version Kamala has on the series, working with Iman Vellani, taking the series from Jersey City to Pakistan, video games, and so much more. We close with our Furious 4 questions, a lightning round with some tough choices. We had a great time with Bisha. Give it a listen and be sure to watch 'Ms. Marvel' now streaming in its entirety on Disney+.
In this episode The 'Verse! Squad gathers to judge if the latest Marvel film, Thor: Love and Thunder is worthy of praise or should be smashed to pieces with Mjölnir. Unfortunately, Bridget and BURT (our cockney-slinging robot) are still down on earth for CockneyCon22. They will be back next week. For those unfamiliar The 'Verse! handles reviews in a unique way; we start with our original poetry to tease our thoughts on the film (don't worry, it is much more fun than it sounds), we follow that with a spoiler-free take on the film, followed by a spoiler-full review that includes Easter eggs, connections to the comics and theories. The new our very own letter grading system, plus a 'star' system to rate it which has taken the form of everything from spider legs (classic) to starfish. Download and enjoy. Next episode we interview the wonderful Bisha K. Ali, head writer and executive producer of Marvel's marvelous new series, Ms. Marvel. It is an interesting and fun conversation you will really enjoy. All this and more can be found in The 'Verse! You can reach out to us on Twitter @TheVerseCast.
The squad dives into two episodes each of Disney+’s Ms. Marvel and Paramount+’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. After a cautious opening with Ms. Marvel, we are fully on board with Kamala Khan’s imagination, courage, and Gen Z sensibilities. After episodes 3 and 4, we can’t wait to see how this series (or season?) wraps up! Next we return to The Verse's Star Trek 101 academy for our penultimate class of the semester with episodes 8 and 9, stopping just before the season finale. Reviewing these two philosophy-laden episodes together with our coverage of Ms. Marvel’s deft handling of family dynamics and intergenerational trauma… this was a heartfelt episode you won’t want to miss.  And if class is well behave The Admiral might just share some moments from his interview with Dr. M'Benga actor, Babs Olusanmokuna Follow us on Twitter @TheVerseCast where we post news, announcements about the pod, and collect listener questions.
