The 110 Podcast

The 110 Pod is Deefur’s effort to shed a little light on lesser-known musicians. A singer-songwriter herself, Deefur understands the importance and value of spreading the word about the music you love.

Entitled. by Ronnie Carrier

I first came across Ronnie Carrier a while back when she was featured at Writers Round Fullerton. I loved her song “Idle Hands” unfortunately, it’s still unreleased as of this writing. So I went with “Entitled.” from her 2017 album Lost in the Eclectic. 165: Grey Day Blue Sky by Addie Tonic

Long-time listeners will probably guess how I came across this week’s featured artist, ADdie Tonic. For those not in the know, I found them while searching for Addie’s (episode 163) music. I’ve been on a hard-rocking, female-fronted band kick ever since I started listening to Amyl and the Sniffers a few months ago, and Addie Tonic fit right in. They’ve got a lot of bangers, but I went with “Grey Day Blue Sky.” Be sure to also check out “Brutal” off their Alive EP. https://open.spotify.com/track/0sTDweA30Bhxt0QPjaL9p3?si=cc6b751270814695 Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | Linktree Shoutouts: Horseplay Comedy | Laughs on Tap hosted by Frank Estrada | Writer's Round Fullerton | Night Owl Open Mic Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

164: Up the Coast in Flames by Soft Autumn

I thought I found this week’s featured artist, Soft Autumn, on a flyer for a show at Vine in Long Beach over the summer, but I couldn’t find the flyer, so now I’m not so sure. Either way, I liked their name (autumn is my favorite season) so I checked them out. I originally thought I'd go with “Fireworks,” but since I didn’t get a clip from the band I was able to pull an audible and went with “Up the Coast in Flames” hope you dig it. https://open.spotify.com/track/31buULECCigDoO2xGdMVqQ?si=899d0992b7e046ed Artist's LinksInstagram | Linktree Shoutouts: Angry Mic | Horseplay Comedy | Laughs on Tap hosted by Frank Estrada Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

163: good day (a really really really really good day) by Addie Addie Addie

I found Addie through producer Rod. We went to see her improv comedy show Everything’s Great! at Dynasty Typewriter right around the end of the pandemic. Beth Stelling also did a set that night, and I was laughing so hard my mask kept getting sucked into my mouth. It was disgusting and gross, but also the hardest I’ve ever laughed. I’m sharing “good day (a really really really really good day)” because it has the lowest play count in her catalog, but also because it gave me the boost I needed to get through September. Addie was also an inspiration a few months back when she put out these really cool, handmade CDs. Kudos to her for putting her art out into the world, and for reminding small artists everywhere to keep creating. https://open.spotify.com/track/1A0cUTwdN9dV7Mk4GhcWLi?si=633f851105b34ad2 Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | Website Shoutouts: Angry Mic | Horseplay Comedy | Laughs on Tap hosted by Frank Estrada Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

162: Macho Man by Hell Tüpét

We’ve been on a wrestling kick ever since meeting Charles Grace (episode 148), which inspired the theme for our 300th episode of The Listening Party Podcast. We just had The Machoverse as a guest for our October episode. I just threw a wrestling-themed birthday celebration. It was only a matter of time before the masks and spandex it spilled over to this podcast. This week, I’m featuring “Macho Man” by Hell Tüpét a track I discovered through a reel The Machoverse posted featuring the song. https://open.spotify.com/track/6j6JhqMJ017R2I6vNdAVum?si=688895028de84c09 Artist's LinksInstagram | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

161: This Year by Apperson

I came across Apperson thanks to one of my little podcast life hacks, checking out line-ups for local shows. In this case, it was Madima’s record release show at Alex’s Bar. I gave Apperson a listen and even though their style isn’t usually my go-to, it felt like my cousin's annual song recommendation from the great beyond. I went with the track “This Year” as a nod to the Mountain Goats’ classic of the same name. Hope you dig it. https://open.spotify.com/track/1zd0TwPSwjEmJKIbWRKXRK?si=2424ed062d4942e3 Artist's LinksInstagram Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

160: Stripped Down with Madima

In this Stripped Down edition of The 110 Podcast, I welcome Madima back to the studio for an intimate performance of “San Sebastian,” the closing track from her brand-new album Exit Plan. This acoustic take captures the heart of the Stripped Down series, offering a simpler, but no less beautiful, contrast to the album version. Beyond the music, we dive into the realities of releasing a record as an independent artist—from balancing creativity with logistics to collaborating with other talented musicians. Madima also shares some thoughtful advice for anyone considering the same path, and we even get a little spooky. 159: september by Phia Moore

I was at Writers Round Fullerton a while back, getting my grub on with a Charles Grace (episode 148) and soaking up some live music, when Greg (episode 120) mentioned I should check out Phia Moore. He wasn’t wrong. While her style isn’t usually what I gravitate toward, her song “september” caught my eye as I was exploring her catalog. I ended up sharing it with a few friends, and they all enjoyed it. I have a feeling you will too. https://open.spotify.com/track/5o0xt2hBxxM16JitAjLzZs?si=2553c667c9854a2d Artist's LinksInstagram | Website Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

158: Ode to Dingus by Jabbermouth

There was a bit of synchronicity in how I stumbled onto Jabbermouth. Around the time Avi (episode 110) told me about catching their set at Old Towne Pub in Pasadena, I learned that Chris Killz (episode 117) just so happens to be their guitarist. That overlap felt like a sign to dig in. Their song "Ode to Dingus" is a perfect showcase of their self-described "fast paced riffs and raw lyrics." If you like what you hear, dive into their EP Put Me on the Guestlist and their 2019 full-length Mother's Choice. https://open.spotify.com/track/6qSoCexszUuALAR513sPKr?si=9401aa9bef3f483d Artist's LinksInstagram Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

157: Double Lives by Jangus Kangus

This week I'm featuring Los Angeles-based Jangus Kangus, a self-described "encyclopedic songbook of popular music and a bonanza of broken hearts, raw nerves, and prickly, jangly, playfully eclectic guitar-pop." I originally planned to showcase "Honeymooners in Venice" but called a last minute audible and went with "Double Lives." You can check out both songs on their 2025 album Fortune Cookie. https://open.spotify.com/track/2yBq8T0fsUExeoHdX8BpLt?si=e9b2ed75e8004df7 Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | Linktree Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

156: Cold Morning by Audio Jane

This week I'm featuring Audio Jane, a "female-fronted, dreamy, fuzz rock band from Connecticut." I found them thanks to a Ginger Bug Instagram post. The name caught my attention and the music has held it for months now. I'm featuring "Cold Morning" but be sure to give their entire catalog a listen. https://open.spotify.com/track/36CrlkB3A0JHVfBPoSJYmr?si=a6ef9fa3ca6f4a85 Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | Linktree Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

155: Plant a Tree by Brooke Bowker

My trip to the Laguna Beach chapter of Writers Round in late June did not disappoint. Between the delicious tacos from Laguna Beer Company and a stacked lineup of talent, it was a night to remember. One standout was Brooke Bowker, who came highly recommended by guest host Rod Harrison—and he was spot on. Bonus points for the Comedy Bang! Bang! t-shirt. I'm featuring her song “Plant a Tree” because it hits so many of the notes I love and has me hyped for what she puts out next. Hope you dig it. https://open.spotify.com/track/4rw5MtJwpVEs3ANjHKAbah?si=293a4c1c86d74100 Artist's LinksInstagram Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

154: Bad Decisions by Bobbo Byrnes

I've had the pleasure of seeing Bobbo Byrnes perform three times now—most recently at Writers Round Fullerton—but it was his set at Writers Round Laguna that really sealed the deal for me. What I love most is the storytelling, not just in his songs but in the way he performs them. With a pretty extensive catalog to choose from, I landed on “Bad Decisions.” Hope you dig it. https://open.spotify.com/track/0XNGhG89GOSPPwa4J5Edtg?si=41ef0716b2fb46b7 Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | Website Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

153: Don’t Take My Side by The Psychotic Reactions

There's some debate about how I first came across The Psychotic Reactions. As I remember it, Producer Rod and I were driving back from a wedding, heading north on the 5, passing the San Onofre boobs (Google it), when one of their songs came on. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Their sound gives me hints of 110 Pod alums The Hags and Leah Lou & the 2 Left Shoes. For this episode, I'm featuring the title track from their 2025 album Don't Take My Side, but don't stop there. Their last two albums were on heavy rotation for me, and their whole discography is well worth diving into. https://open.spotify.com/track/0FNLvFMGhtP6I27Ewx5LJP?si=a008025c46f54454 Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | Linktree Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

152: Mi Casa Vieja by The Kidd Electric

I can't quite remember how I first came across The Kidd Electric, but they landed back on my radar thanks to Ryan from Rome Apart, who mentioned them at a recent show. They’ve got a slightly bigger following than the artists I usually feature, but their track “Mi Casa Vieja” is just too good to keep to myself. Give it a listen. https://open.spotify.com/track/3AShyQdL6MeQacZxM5R9GK?si=498576b7ec904756 Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | Other Links Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

151: Athena by Sweetmelk

Sweetmelk is a self-described "explosion of radical love, trans joy, pain and power" that I immediately fell in love with. Their 2021 EP Living Room was in heavy rotation thanks to songs that cut me deep in my pansa. For this episode, I wanted to share something a little more rockin' to give newcomers a taste of that first-time magic I experienced, so I'm featuring "Athena." 150: Stripped Down with Rod Harrison

In this Stripped Down edition of The 110 Podcast, I sit down with Rod Harrison—a beloved fixture of the Southern California music scene—to share his beautiful desert ode, "Wind and Stone." We also talk about his musical beginnings with the accordion, how he eventually found his voice, one of his most unforgettable performances at a backyard show, and the power of the arts. He also shares some priceless advice for young musicians—and we wrap things up with a few fun open mic pet peeves. 149: Soft Hands by Vampire Boyfriend

In this episode, I’m diving into “Soft Hands” by Vampire Boyfriend—a track I absolutely love and one I’m pretty sure I discovered through sewerbitch’s Spotify radio. Vampire Boyfriend describes their music as fictional, horror, niche, storytelling, and this song totally lives up to that eerie and evocative vibe. Sadly, they’re based in the Netherlands (I think), so catching them live might be more dream than reality for me. https://open.spotify.com/track/45j1dvDu4i30gwsOblWfkd?si=9a75f881b39c4f05 Artist's LinksInstagram | Linktree Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.

148: Pillar to Post by Charles Grace

The series of events that lead to me meeting Charles Grace is pretty wild. We crossed paths at Rod Harrison's Saturday Night Showcase at the Night Owl in Fullerton. We hit it off right away and became fast friends. A week later, he joined Rod and I as a guest on the Listening Party Podcast, check out his episode when it's released July 7th. It was a no brainer I would feature him on this podcast as well. The only question was, which song? I went with "Pillar to Post" off his 2020 album, The Wreckage. This week, I'm featuring "Bad Habit" by Rachel Brooke a stripped down track featuring just vocals and guitar about forbidden love. I found the song listening to my artist radio, which I didn't have for the longest time. It's not what I typically listen to, but still pleasantly surprised. https://open.spotify.com/track/2jZGBvfNoagGdUNVyz7TTY?si=79903b11dd7c4e76 Artist's LinksInstagram | Linktree Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
