I interviewed my friend and hero Peter John Smyth ("PJ") who many of my connections will remember fondly as a passionate preacher and Christian leader. Among other things we spoke about his experience of blood cancer, and what it was like being the son of the man whose scandal led to the Archbishop of Canterbury resigning. This covers some of the same same territory as the recent See No Evil documentary. It is full of hope and will help trauma survivors as well as those who want to help them better, or learn the lessons of the past. Worth a watch for everyone. This is a conversation unlike any I’ve had before. TakeawaysThe journey of self-publishing can be both challenging and rewarding.Community support is crucial in times of trauma and healing.Personal struggles often shape our ability to help others.Vulnerability can foster deeper connections and understanding.Shame can distort our identity and needs to be addressed. The church must be trauma-aware and supportive of its members.Professional help is essential for mental health and healing.Shared experiences can provide powerful affirmation and support.Forgiveness is a complex but necessary part of healing.Looking forward with hope is vital for personal growth.ChaptersChapters00:00 Introduction and Reminiscing02:34 The Journey of Self-Publishing05:45 The Early Days of Ministry08:25 Transitioning Through Challenges11:00 Facing Personal Trials14:05 The Impact of Family Dynamics16:46 The Role of Music in Healing19:12 Understanding Trauma and Its Effects21:42 The Revelation of Family Secrets24:33 Navigating Public Scrutiny26:57 The Church's Response to Crisis29:56 Lessons Learned and Moving Forward34:09 The Four Pillars of Well-Being37:02 The Power of Community and Service38:10 Finding Healing Through Shared Experiences41:29 The Role of Trauma in Personal Growth44:19 The Journey of Healing and Helping Others48:33 Understanding Shame and Identity54:12 The Impact of Faith Amidst Suffering57:33 Looking Forward: Hope and Purpose

In this interview I sit down with Dr Mark Mayfield to talk about his new book The Mental Health Handbook for Ministry. We explore how Christians can engage with #MentalHealth wisely, how pastors can offer real #PastoralCare without overreaching, and why presence matters more than platitudes. If you care about #FaithAndWellbeing, this conversation will encourage and equip you.
This is a sermon preached by my grandfather I believe in the 1960s. He was a tent preacher with the Counties Evangelists, based in Suffolk working with the Brethren. He has a large heritage of Christian descendants. You can hear his sermon here or read more about him:

Both presidential candidates are routinely described by the other party as being a threat to the existence of democracy. Why are we surprised that someone took it upon themselves to try and remove one of them? It is time for the political temperature in the USA to be turned down.
The level of hatred and division on both sides of the political divide is way too high at the moment. The attempt on Trump's life has demonstrated just how febrile the situation is.
Some of the reaction to Trump's surviving this attack is very concerning. Many have forgotten that someone was killed, two were critically injured, that Secret Service Agents immediately surrounded Trump willing to take a second bullet for him. Adrian talks with John Stevens, a leading UK christian. We spoke about servant leadership, a phrase used by Sir Keir Starmer but which ought to be deeply rooted in Church leadership. The mature Christian or pastor ought not to be remote, strong, entrepreneurial and untouchable but rather someone who knows what it is to have human weaknesses and go through human sufferings, and yet to find Christ in the midst. If you are a pastor or church member who is struggling with feeling you are failing to meet the expectations you have put on yourself this discussion will serve you well.

Barnabas Piper grew up as a son of John Piper and with that surname came many expectations. Divorce wasn't one of them. But God wasn't finished with him, now he is remarried and a pastor.

The response to my series on divorce and remarriage and Dave Bish's sermon have been hugely encouraging. We thought it might be interesting to have a podcast style conversation about it. I hope this will be helpful for you if you are going through divorce right now, if you did so years ago, or if you would like to learn how to better support others. What does the Bible say about divorce and remarriage and how can Christians help reduce the stigma associated with it.
We explore issues related to our risk of infections including COVD-19. Some of the issues we discuss are controversial and others would have different opinions. Each of us have to make our own decisions in consultation with our own doctors.

Adrian interviews El who spent the COVID19 pandemic being treated for Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Ebisidor Rasaki Nabena and Adrian Warnock talk about what it is like to be helping Nathaniel Nabena prepare for his forthcoming life saving stem cell transplant. His faith and hope are tangible but also based in the reality of the challenges they still face as a family. The many miracles to date inspire confidence in the future. I trust this will also inspire your hope in whatever challenges you are facing. It is OK to also have tears at times.
Join the celebration as Adrian Warnock is joined by dad Ebisidor Rasaki Nabena and the family’s first supporter Sharyn MJ who is the driving force behind Nathaniel’s Angels and a publicity guru.
Thank you to every single one of you who have donated, liked and shared. Don’t stop now. We do need to make sure that there is a buffer (in case he needs more treatment than hoped) and I know the family is keen to be able to also bless others. We will keep following this story as we pray Nathaniel has a smooth journey through his Stem cell transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. You can also see the video:
Nathaniel Nabena who is a nine year old who found himself in the right place at the right time when a very rare and very aggressive form of blood cancer attacked him. Just 100 children a year are diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) a year in the UK. Imagine the odds that one of them should be a young boy who just happened to be in the country visiting to get a prosthetic eye fitted for a different condition.
Without modern medical treatment of chemotherapy, venetoclax and a stem cell transplant death would be certain. This would not have been available in Nigeria where he lived. In London Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the top places in the world to deal with this. Whilst he is not eligible for treatment under the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), doctors at the world-famous hospital have waived their fees dramatically reducing the cost to save this life.
One of the UK’s most popular national newspapers, The Mirror and its sister publication the Sunday People have been behind this case since February. Thanks to the generosity of their readers and others the initial chemotherapy has been paid for and was very successful. But without another £200,000 being raised in the next ten days the window will close on following this treatment up with a stem cell transplant. He has a match which is itself a miracle. This treatment may well be curative and allow him to live a normal life.

The challenges, the pitfalls, the lessons learnt from over 20 years of a personal journey and learning from others through her work Patient Power Join me as I interview Esther Schorr who is married to Andrew Schorr. Right now 1 in 30 Londoners are infective for COVID19 and the NHS here is in crisis. What do we know about how the body fights this disease. Why do some people end up in hospital? How can a blood saturation monitor help you? What do we know about antibodies? How anti Covid spike protein antibodies are key to understanding the vaccine, monoclonal antibodies and also why some people with impaired immune systems such blood cancer don’t make antibodies and so tend to have more severe illness. I also refer to my personal experience of failing a vaccine trial and needing to start soon on IVIG as well as enrolling in a monoclonal antibody covid19 prevention trial. This second discussion with our friendly physicist atheist was still not a slugfest (you can also see part one). We both intended to show that we can disagree agreeably. By the end I felt that in Billy Whizz I had a new friend. We spoke about absolute truth, morality, hope, and suffering. So covered loads of grounds. I feel I understood his perspective and I hope he understood mine. It is sad how rarely something like this happens, and if it inspires you to have a similar conversation, perhaps with a friend who does not believe in Jesus, we will both be encouraged. Is there anything we didn't cover you would have liked us to? You can also watch the video: https://admin.patheos.com/blogs/adrianwarnock/2020/08/adrian-meets-billy-the-atheist-the-rematch/
This episode is a discussion with a new friend I have met as a result of my recent COVID19 article. Billy Whizz (Richard Harvey) is an atheist with a physics degree described by a mutual facebook friend as a seeker after truth. Billy asked a couple of questions in the comments section including whether I was really implying only Christians could be scientists (I wasn't of course!) And it seemed to me that this would be a great person to have a conversation with.
This video mostly focussed on what we agree on. The need to be thoughful of others not just yourself in this epidemic. Just how big a problem this really is for the world. And our shared concern about conspiracy theorists. We did discuss to what extent Christianity had been behind the resurgence of Science in Europe. Martin Luther and the printing press even got a mention. I really enjoyed this conversation so much we are thinking of doing another. What would you like an atheist and a Christian to talk about? What questions should I put to Billy or he put to me? We proved today that it IS possible to talk about things when you have very different beliefs. Oh that we as Society would relearn how to disagree agreeably. I hope you enjoy this. This episode is about Christians and truth-telling about COVID19. The response has been very encouraging. It seems that many people share my concerns about how some Christians have been sharing things that are simply not true about COVID19 conspiracy theories. One point of clarification - I have since learnt that this is not an American-only problem. There are indeed some UK Christians sharing such things also, I just haven't noticed them in my feed. And there are also of course many USA Christians who would hold a similar pro-science pro-truth line to what I am trying to share in this podcast and the article on which it is based. The Video and original article can be found here: https://www.patheos.com/blogs/adrianwarnock/2020/08/christians-must-stop-lying-about-covid19/
