Who’s to blame for the death of Edgar Allen Poe?This week, The Alarmist (Rebecca Delgado Smith) tackles the mysterious death of famed author and poet Edgar Allen Poe. Known for his fascination with the macabre and for telling tales of mystery and psychological terror, did Poe manifest a similar mysterious fate for himself? Perhaps he was jumped by a group of ruffians put off by his alcoholic tendencies and notorious foul attitude. Or maybe it was something as simple as Tuberculosis, a common killer of the time. Who’s to blame for Brandy & Monica’s "The Boy Is Mine" Feud? This week, The Alarmist (Rebecca Delgado Smith) revisits the epic feud between 90’s female pop icons Brandy and Monica. The Boy Is Mine. Was it real? Was it a publicity stunt? We may never know the entire story. But, we do know the fans loved it. And they still do…to this very day. Hence Brandy & Monica’s 2025 reunion titled after the hit songs namesake. Was this manufactured by the music industry or were the fans to blame for their insatiable appetite for drama? Who’s to blame for the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake & Tsunami? This week, The Alarmist (Rebecca Delgado Smith) discusses the massive earthquake that rocked the floor of the Indian Ocean in 2004 and triggered deadly tsunamis which raced across the ocean and wiped out entire villages and took the lives of people living and vacationing hundreds of miles away. Could an official warning system have prevented such a massive loss of life? Did a lack of public awareness about tsunamis in this region contribute to the overall destruction? And have we all forgotten that we’re still just creatures existing in the wild? Who’s to blame for the Dancing Plague of 1518?This week, The Alarmist (Rebecca Delgado Smith) is searching for the cause of the Dancing Plague of 1518 in the city of Strasbourg. What possessed a woman named Frau Troffea to start dancing unstopped for 6 six days straight? And why did hundreds of others join in, some dancing themselves to literal death? Did “laughing veins” have something to do with it? Perhaps economic struggles during mystical times were the cause. Or maybe this had something to do with the Patron Saint Vitus. As the dead bodies pile up, and with multiple endings to choose from, who’s really to blame for this mess? Was it Miss Scarlett in the Library with a revolver? Was it Wadsworth playing his butler in order to blackmail in the most theatrical of ways? Or is this just what happens when you keep bad company? Who’s to blame for the British Pet Massacre? This week, The Alarmist (Rebecca Delgado Smith) welcomes Alex Steed, co-host of the You Are Good Podcast, to discuss the tragic yet seemingly avoidable British Pet Massacre. Did PTSD wartime efforts lead to sort of blind patriotism? Did a scarcity mindset overwhelm collective reason and lead to large scale misplaced anxiety? It’s highly likely you’ve eaten a meal with a set of Oneida silverware. But, are you familiar with their cult origins and problematic sex practices like “Sticky Love” or “Complex Marriage?” Were cults like these, which were very popular at this particular moment in history, a result of the industrial revolution and its billionaire class or an echo of our puritanical origins as a country? For those of us who grew up in the country, around guns, this is common. Tanarite is used for target practice all the time, it doesn't make us stupid. It also doesn't mean we only have one brain cell, or lack common sense. it's a life style that unless you grew up in it, wouldn't understand. I have a masters degree, and I also have my concealed handgun license. As for the wife, I can almost guarantee she was on board with this, as many people I know have done this same reveal. lol

Listening earlier episodes and the guessing game is too much. If you don't know, just stop recording and Google it. Facts 30%, some weird assumptions 70%. I hope it gets better in the future episodes.

Much more professional. There is still too much giggling for my taste (though that might be personal), but the subject matter is light enough for a comedy show and it well-researched and informative, with a good choice of qualified guests. This is streets ahead of the early episodes.

I heard a trailer for this podcast on another podcast and had high hopes. 'Triangle shirtwaist fire' is the first episode I've listened to so far, and it is one of your earliest episodes. I have to say I was disappointed by the amount of nervous giggling and inane, tasteless chit-chat amongst yourselves, and the gossipy, uninformed pre-judgments. What I came for was an in informed analysis and discussion of a tragic incident; not a gossip show. I hope the moments of silence when things 'got dark', made you realise how 'off' the tone was. In your defence, however, I concede that this was something like the second episode of over a hundred. I hope that you have now managed to get over the initial adrenaline burst of recording a podcast with friends, and are putting more quality content per minute into your shows.

by no means do I defend the colonists who came over here with with bad intentions and maybe did things more despicably than I would like but let's be honest that it turned out to be good for all of us. the only reason America is here and I was able to grow up in such a great country it's because Europeans came and defeated the indigenous people. every country is started by a group of people going over to another land and defeating the people that live there so they can take over. It's happened all through history and perhaps will happen again.

This episode is fascinating. It's perfect study of what happens when you're so progressive that you actually start having authoritarian views. The last half of the episode is them talking about throwing people to jail for conspiratorial thinking. While I agree that conspiracy theorist are nut jobs, listening to three liberals seriously discussing criminalising anti-government thought is absolutely hilarious in it's lack of self awareness. The first half of the episode was good, but showcases how half hazard the research for the show is. How in the world can you make a podcast about Heavens Gate and not bring up halley's comet?! Really makes you think what other absolutely crucial information the forgot to read about in other episodes.
