We are over-the-moon excited to share our conversation with deck creator, artist and magic maker Chris-Anne.  You might know her from her wildly cool The Lightseer’s Tarot. In this episode we discuss her brand new deck: The Tarot of Curious Creatures.  With their illuminating conversations and grounded wisdom, the curious and quirky characters in this 78 (+1) deck are a strangely familiar twist on the traditional tarot. And we think you’re gonna love it.    The Tarot of Curious Creatures is available November 2nd and can be ordered from her website chris-anne.com and the usual places you get your decks.    More about Chris-Anne:  Chris-Anne is a deck creator, artist, and magic-maker, as well as a marketing strategist and owner of Pixelbrand: a branding and graphic design company. This episode Cyndera interviews writer and film maker Marieke Lexmond about her writing of the Madigan Chronicles with the use of the 22 Major Arcana cards of the Tarot. Throughout this interview, the influences of nature, magic and archetypes pervade and are revealed through the creative writing process. We'll hear a selection from Marieke's first book, The Dagger and discuss the Magical Tarot Deck that is introduced and explored through her second book of the same title. We have 6 in total to look forward to, as well as a specially created Tarot deck of animals and nature illustrated by Marieke's friend from childhood, Nicole Ruijgrok. Thank you for joining us on this journey of magic, life lessons and tarot-inspired characters as we go "Under the Witches Hat." Marieke Lexmond reads tarot cards, loves food, photography, and travel. She has three sassy little dogs that she likes to take everywhere and have their own Instagram account @urbandogsquad. Her background in filmmaking enabled her to travel and live around the globe. Storytelling is in her blood, from saving her allowance from a very young age to buy books, to her master's degree from the Dutch Film Academy. Fantasy and science fiction are her favorite. She prefers to write fun and mystical stories. Her attraction to nature and places with a magical history brought her to New Orleans and the West Coast of Ireland. As a pagan, she felt an instant connection to the land; it feeds her imagination and has become the inspiration for the Madigan Chronicles. Can you connect to your ancestors using the Tarot?  Answer:  YES Julienne and Cyndera join together for a very special interview with Nancy Hendrickson, author of the recently released Ancestral Tarot (full bio below). Like a 3 of cups dancing, hosts and guests embark on a discussion of anchoring with the ancestors, and the growing interest this has in the collective at the moment.  Nancy delves more deeply into the description of the different types of ancestors tarot readers can work with. Beyond ancestors of blood, each person can call on both Ancestors of Time and Place. Drawing the wisdom of daily life lived over centuries, guidance for specific questions and problems can be articulated through Tarot imagery.  Julienne describes a mini reading she did for herself for her beginning ancestor work and Nancy provides further insight, including some perspectives on reversals. To further delight current topic interests, Nancy, Julienne and Cyndera further explore the connection between fairy tales and tarot, as well as the ancestors present in the larger natural world. This episode wraps up with the conclusion that ancestor work is not only popular at the moment, but is necessary for our continued survival on earth. Open your eyes, ears and heart for signs from the ancestors in this latest interview! Nancy Hendrickson is the author of Ancestral Tarot, a book that takes readers into the realm of Ancestors of Blood, Place, and Time using Tarot. She has decades of experience in both genealogy and tarot. Nancy is a columnist for The Cartomancer Magazine, writing about Tarot decks from a cultural perspective. She is active on Instagram @nancysageshadow where she posts daily about Tarot and other forms of divination. Archetypal Fairytales

This episode We delve into the world of archetypal fairytales inspired by Cyndera’s recent acquisition of volume one of Jungian scholar Marie Louise Von Franz’s Archetypal symbols in Fairytales: The Profane and Magical Worlds and Julienne mostly fails a Tarot quiz.  She's hoping for a chance to redeem myself but until then we hope you enjoy our banter about the power of archetypes and story.  Show notes & Reference Links: Volume 1 of the Collected Works of Marie-Louise von Franz: Archetypal Symbols in Fairytales: The Profane and Magical Worlds   This Jungian Life podcast https://thisjungianlife.com/   Clarissa Pinkola-Estes http://www.clarissapinkolaestes.com/   Jean Shinoda-Bolen https://www.jeanbolen.com/   Robert A. They contain a dialogue of how and why we use our energy the way we do. Archetypal patterns are a way to learn about the truth and possibilities of our lives.   Every character archetype has an empowered or light side as well as a disempowered or shadow side.    Archetypes are both universal and personal.   More at Julienne’s website: https://archetypist.com/   The Saboteur Corollary or attendant archetypes:  Magician, Alchemist   The Head Mind & Thought Choice, Truth, Self-Esteem Element:  Air   The Saboteur is often the Inner Critic with a running dialogue that picks things to pieces (hence the sabotaging…).  It’s the part of us that has a tendency to be logical (empowered) and over-thinking (disempowered). The Alchemist/Magician represents an ability to identify and understand the illusions that the Saboteur concocts and seeing the possibilities in situations.  The ancient Alchemists where focused on changing lead to gold and the symbolic Alchemist can see the gold in the leaden situations.   In film/tv:  Miranda - Sex & the City,  Hermione - Harry Potter    The Prostitute Corollary or attendant archetype:  Lover    The Heart Emotions, Faith, Negotiation, Integrity, Self-Worth Lover / Prostitute Element:  Water   In film/tv:  Charlotte from Sex in the City, Hagrid from Harry Potter    The Prostitute archetype engages lessons in integrity and the sale or negotiation of one’s integrity or spirit due to fears of physical and financial survival or for financial gain. This archetype activates the aspects of the unconscious that are related to seduction and control, whereby you are as capable of buying a controlling interest in another person as you are in selling your own power. Prostitution should also be understood as the selling of your talents, ideas, and any other expression of the self–or the selling-out of them. This archetype is universal and its core learning relates to the need to birth and refine self-esteem and self-respect. The disempowered version of the Prostitute is the People Pleaser, the empowered, the Lover who gives from their excess.     R.A.I.N.  process to working with archetypes adapted from work created by Tara Brach.  Acknowledge each of these stages in a journal or other creative outlet.   Recognize - the archetype Accept with Compassion - accept it’s message for you with compassion  Investigate - where and why this pattern comes up  Navigate  - to the next right action OR / Non-attachment - dis-engage from it

Blind trust / handing our power over to another for protection Temper tantrums Refusal to follow guidance because it’s uncomfortable “You’re not the boss of me!”    Attendant archetypes:  Seeker, Detective, Guide, Artist, Student   Victim / Warrior  Empowered attributes:  Creates, holds and protects boundaries Uses discernment before engaging in battle Seeks not to hurt others but protect Acknowledges that wounds connect us to each other fostering understanding & compassion  Alerts us to when we are in danger   Dismpowered attributes:  Refusal to move toward healing Hands power over due to woundedness / helplessness  Seeks attention through complaining without movement toward resolution Engages in blame but not toward healing    Attendant archetypes: Judge, Hero, Mentor, Liberator    R.A.I.N.  process to working with archetypes adapted from work created by Tara Brach  Recognize the pattern at work in any situation Accept situation with Compassion Investigate how to move forward Navigate to next right action or connection  OR  Non-attachment - let go
Amidst this pandemic we are feeling all the feels. It’s exhausting, it’s confounding, it’s scary and undoubtedly it’s changed life as we know it forever.   In this episode we dive into the archetypal catalysts of three tarot cards, Death/Rebirth, Judgement and The World. We unpack how these relate to the corona virus pandemic and how they can provide insight into our individual and collective opportunities for a pretty big leap in evolution.   We present questions that can help us process what is going on and discover our part in this evolutionary process.  We finish with an idea for an exercise to open ourselves and attune to the inspiration of beauty even in these dark times. **Note** This recording contains coarse  language as well as humor.  If the idea of death, is overwhelming for you, consider saving this episode for later.  We don’t present anything graphic but we do reference metaphorical death and rebirth as a part of the evolution/growth process. If that's too much right now, we get it - all of our feelings and experiences are heightened as we navigate this crisis and the last thing we want is to make it worse. We send you aloha and compassion.  We named the episode Wide Open based on the title of a painting created by Cyndera's friend Angela Han.  The painting itself was inspired by a song of the same name written by Cyndera and her husband, Joro.  Both song and painting were created in the last month amidst the covid-19 pandemic. Look for a bonus episode with more info. We hope you find inspiration and hope you’ll reach out to us on social media or by email.  For a photo of the painting and links and references visit the show page here: https://archetypaltarot.podbean.com/e/wide-open-three-archetypal-processes-of-evolution/ Journal / exercise / exploration or card spread prompts: Death-Rebirth  Endings, cycles of transformation, change, new beliefs, new awareness , renewal  (Reversed) not wanting to move on, clinging to the past, fear of change, sentimental, end of hope, forces of destruction   Question: What are you letting go of now and how does that inform your dream of the future?    Judgment self realization and understanding, spiritual awakening, knowing motives, transparency, a reckoning, epiphany  (Reversed) hiding - shadow material   Question: What part of yourself in this crisis needs to be “un-judged” by acceptance in order to feel more whole?    The World  Completion, wholeness, new levels of consciousness, (Reversed) short cuts, a need to follow through, unmet dreams, a need  to stay focused to complete a task.    Questions: What does your beautiful future look like?  Are you able to envision a future where our world has evolved SO much for the better?    Beauty Journal Hat tip to the Metaphysical Milkshake podcast and Dr. Rhett Diessner for this idea. Cyndera & Julienne discuss the the Corona Virus pandemic through the lens of the archetypal stories of the tarot.  Keeping in mind that we drew The Strength card as our focus for 2020, we pull in a few more that we see in evidence during this crisis and discuss how this archetypal view can guide and possibly bring something new to the world during the darkest time.    Tarot Cards / archetypal stories discussed are:  STRENGTH, HANGED MAN, HERMIT, TOWER, DEATH-REBIRTH We are careful in our discussion to honor what unfolds with compassion (and especially self compassion) and not castigate people for not approaching the hardships with a purely spiritual view.  All of our capacities are needed at this time even if it means standing in the closet and screaming obscenities to re-set ourselves for the road ahead.  We also discuss ways to use time away from regular routines to re-connect with friends, spend time in nature, bring life to new projects and observe the process of creativity as fomented by BEING (Yin/Feminine) and then brought to life by DOING (Yang/Masculine). References: As usual we recognize our podcast friends, colleagues and sheroes for their thoughtful contributions and ideas.  ✨ Rash of Stay Woke Tarot reminds us of compassion for ourselves and not feeling ashamed of a less than spiritual approach.  ✨ Award winning author, academic and bad@ss goddess, Naomi Klein ✨ Cyndera's first ever certified Story Through Stone Reader, Desiree Ammons of Sukha Self Care. ✨ Ke'oni Hanalei of Pohala Hawaiian Botanicals references the lessons of Hawaiian Fern Medicine, particularly Laukahi - Divine Magnetism. ✨ Author, card-slinger and all around bad@ss of tarot, Melissa Cynova turned us on to The Lightseer's Tarot by Chris-Anne which are the images we focus on.

2020 Podcast

Happy New Years to our Archetypal Tarot Podcast listeners!  As per the Archetypal Tarot tradition, co-hosts Julienne Givot and Cyndera Quackenbush got together over the phone and picked a card for the new year. This time we picked one from the Rider-Waite Major Arcana and one from the Mana Cards, to bring a bit of Mainland and Island Wisdom together for our New Years reading. Themes emerging include Strength, Winds of Change, At-One-Ment and yelling at CNN...  Poem by Hafiz and Story of Maui from Catherine Kalama Becker & Doya Nardin's Mana Cards (as is the above image)
It has been a time of darkness, literal darkness, as California in the past weeks have been plunged into power outages, fears of fire, evacuations and unspeakable loss because of those fires - once again.  As the smoke thickens and we face a “new normal,” we seem to be seeing even less clearly around us and are uncertain in these darkening times. True Light, when it comes, is unexpected and often fleeting. More and more we ask, what is our path as a human race? What is our place here on this earth? What can I in my one life do to contribute?  This podcast explores the quest for purpose through a recent reading. The querent asks how she can find her path again and what's important to her amidst a chaotic daily family life. This question is a meaningful personal plea that has collective significance.  Here is how you can get an online reading from anywhere in the world: First Visit storythroughstone.org/readings   Purchase the reading using the PayPal button. Readings are usually $75 but with your $30 discount they will only be $45 by Typing in Promo Code STONESEASON. This offer will stand just until the end of 2019, so take advantage and purchase the gift of a reading for a friend as well! You may also support this podcast by making a pledge at tiny.cc/tarot. Warmest thanks to our current patrons Cat, Richard, Allie and Geneva.
Archetypal Autumn

Archetypal Autumn

2019-10-0510:58

This Seasonal Archetypal Tarot Podcast features a reading from the Autumn phase of life - the time when careers may come to a close and retirement beckons.  This encompasses both the realities of ending and also the embrace of new creative and collaborative relationships.  This podcast also offers two different ways to receive your own Story Through Stone Reflection Card Reading!
How might we liberate our card readings to reveal not only personal insights but also deepen our dialogue with the Earth itself? This question began with a reading for a young woman in Spain, asking if she should leave for London to study acting. The story that resulted, "The Gift of the Oyster" revealed a surprising chain of synchronicities that lead Archetypal Podcast host, Cyndera Quackenbush, to connect more deeply with the surrounding environment and its shelled companions.  Do you have a grit of sand you would like to explore as a possible pearl in a Story Through Stone Reading? We are still accepting questions and readings to be featured on the Podcast, which you can submit by becoming a Patron and e-mailing tarotpodcast@gmail.com. Make your tiny, or not so tiny pledge at tiny.cc/tarot and warmest thanks to our current patrons!
Special Summer Travel Edition! Cyndera makes her way to Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece, and reflects on two contrasting yet complimentary archetypes - the Pillar and the Mermaid - and how both are present in the images of the Tarot. Stories emerge from Cyndera's own childhood as the failed Delphi of the Desert, and she also offers a creative retelling of the Contest of Athena and Poseidon inspired by her trip to the Acropolis. Questions, Readings and their stories will resume in the next podcast! You can still receive a reading by becoming a patron at tiny.cc/tarot and e-mailing tarotpodcast@gmail.com with your question.
