Camera companies have been struggling with sales since cell phones have pretty much replaced them in the consumer market. They are now struggling to sell products to a niche group of serious enthusiasts and professionals. This year we are seeing a hail mary from the likes of Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panasonic and Olympus - its a last ditch effort to tell us we need new cameras. Why aren't cameras more expensive? Most people think they should be a lot less. We are in an age now where the photography industry is struggling to stay alive with too many cameras and too few buyers. The race has been on to give you more value for your money, but an interesting side effect has emerged. They all basically do variations of the same thing. Nothing is driving the industry forward. Sony and Panasonic have exceptions to this, but Jaron and Ted argue they should be driving this even harder.
