In this short episode I read a spoken word project I wrote that reflects on 2020 and highlights a hopeful message ahead of the upcoming Queenland State election. The episode concludes with a speech I wrote for a Green's candidate in Brisbane. I hope both of these projects empower you to consider researching your vote this year.
This episode James and I discuss the prospects of a federal Jobs Guarantee. You might have heard of the concept in the news lately and we sat down to discuss what it is, what jobs would it bring, if it's similar to the 'work for the dole' schemes and how much it might cost. I will note that when talking about the U.S. I miss quoted the unofficial unemployment rate which is at 18.1 or slightly higher according to the hidden unemployment figures. I also noted that the U.S. has 100,000 deaths from Coronavirus which I meant to phrase as a figure the country was heading towards but not the actual amount. When you read lots of numbers they do get jumbled but with that aside we think you'll find this interesting and hope you take something away from the episode.
A surprise movie dropped this week produced by documentary filmmaker Michael Moore called Planet of the Humans which brought a different perspective and critique to the environmental movement and of renewable energy. It posed some interesting questions and got James and I thinking about what we can takeaway from the film and what should be disregarded. I hope you find this discussion open and useful as a lot of the questions brought up by this movie are going to be important in addressing how we move towards a green planet. If you enjoyed the episode please leave a review on Apple Podcasts it would be muchly appreciated. **** Music Credit: Escape by HaTom & Rofeu https://fanlink.to/HaTom https://soundcloud.com/ruslan-delion/tracks Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/hatom-and-rofeu-escape
This episode is devoted to covering some of the shortcomings of the Government's economic and social policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While I reflect on how lucky it is to live in Australia, I share some of my critiques on the JobKeeper subsidy, superannuation changes, loans on offer and the supposed promise to ban evictions across the country. I hope you listen all the way through as I know the topic may seem unpopular during this time but I promise the discussion might help to stimulate a new perspective and remind you that we can and should be fighting for everyone not just those who have already been looked after. I appreciate your ongoing support and your own opinion and perspective you bring to the conversation. If you enjoyed the episode I would really appreciate you leaving a review on Apple Podcasts as it helps to reach new people.
This week brought the decision by the High Court of Australia to let George Pell go free after being convicted in 2018 unanimously of five child sex offences. James Hales joins the conversation with Josh about what this decision means for survivors and what could be done in the future to prevent the Catholic Church's abuse of the system. The nature of sexual abuse crimes more broadly is discussed and a few ideas around what could be done to help victims of these crimes and prevent them from occurring in the future are suggested. **** Music Credit: Escape by HaTom & Rofeu https://fanlink.to/HaTom https://soundcloud.com/ruslan-delion/tracks Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/hatom-and-rofeu-escape
As the world continues to live through the Coronavirus pandemic we're seeing the emergence and evident behaviours of racism which forms the topic of today's episode. Josh is joined by his collaborator and friend James Hales who brings another alternative perspective drawing back historic comparisons while reflecting on his own witnessing of racism in Australia amidst the pandemic. There are a few audio pops in this episode which we apologise for as we start to figure out how to best record things for you. **** Music Credit: Escape by HaTom & Rofeu https://fanlink.to/HaTom https://soundcloud.com/ruslan-delion/tracks Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/hatom-and-rofeu-escape
In a time of crisis Josh flips the recent decision by the Australian government to raise unemployment benefits upside down to highlight what we've missed as a society before the coronavirus. The episode ignites a discussion on what our country could be like if we value those who are unfortunate and imagine big changes that benefit all of us not just a select few. **** Music Credit: Escape by HaTom & Rofeu https://fanlink.to/HaTom https://soundcloud.com/ruslan-delion/tracks Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/hatom-and-rofeu-escape
Today's episode and launch of the podcast is focused on the Coronavirus pandemic where Josh discusses two issues that deserve a spotlight during this overwhelming 24/7 news cycle consuming our lives. Those issues are the cost of bailing out corporations and airlines and how the testing of COVID-19 is impacting on the spread and containment of the virus in Australia. **** Music Credit: Escape by HaTom & Rofeu https://fanlink.to/HaTom https://soundcloud.com/ruslan-delion/tracks Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/hatom-and-rofeu-escape
