What's the next thing to add to the ever-growing list of noise-cancelling items you really should own? What's Kieran's latest wild invention? And what's the news on that pregnant guinea pig? Find out all the answers and then some on this edition of The Autistic Experience, as Kieran and Chloe also trawl through the new government's manifesto to see what's in store for the disabled community. And finally, what's the deal with that ferret in a hat? Leave us a nice rating & review on whatever podcast app you use, and go follow us on Instagram if you're into that sort of thing! Next episode is on the 21st July!
Blood tests, theme parks, and theories this week as Chloe and Kieran have been riding rollercoasters, mourning the loss of Google Podcasts, and getting jabbed by needles - not at the same time, luckily. Question for this week: what's the most embarrassing thing you've ever thrown up on? People, places, things, it doesn't matter - send your answers to @theautisticexperience on Instagram! Next episode will come out on the 7th July! In the meantime, leave a rating and review on whatever platform you're listening to!
Tangents ahoy this week as Kieran gets left on a coach, and the pair have been off to see The Eagles in concert! Also! Why adult birthday parties are rubbish for neurodivergent brains, and the surprising benefits of watching foxes outside your house. Go follow the show on Instagram @theautisticexperience, and leave a nice rating and review on whatever podcast platform you're listening on!
Chloe and Kieran have been to the theatre! It's not all sunshine and kittens, though, as they've come across something we've just coined [during this sentence] as the "autistic sensory paradox". Is it a good thing? Is it a bad thing? Find out for yourself by listening to this episode! Next episode is on the 9th June, so in the meantime we'd really appreciate a nice review on whatever podcast platform you're listening on, and you can go follow us on Instagram @theautisticexperience.
Chloe and Kieran have been on a cruise! Yeah, we know, they're traditionally the realm of old people, but can cruise holidays actually be a hidden gem for autistic and ADHD folk on the hunt for a stress-free holiday? If you've never been on a cruise, or even considered the idea, have a listen to this episode to see what it's like! You can also follow us on Instagram @theautisticexperience and share your experiences! Next episode will release on the 26th May!
Do you know about the ADHD tax? Because Chloe's really been paying hers! She's managed to lose her earplugs, so we reminisce a bit about all the other times she's lost something important-- it happens a lot. Also in the episode: Chloe's hurt her knee! Cows! And unfortunately, a bit of sad news. Go follow us on Instagram @theautisticexperience - Chloe's promised to actually put some photos up, so we'll see how that turns out... Next episode comes out on the 12th May!
Kieran and Chloe have both been off doing new stuff this week, much to the displeasure of our old friend, executive dysfunction. We figured it would be a good idea to chat about each of our experiences, how they're similar, how they're different (I think we can all guess one major factor that's different between K &C), and trying to figure out the ideal type of hobby for the autistic/ADHD brain. Believe it or not, we manage it. Well, basically. You can get in contact with us via our Instagram page @theautisticexperience, and as usual we'd very much appreciate a nice rating and review on whatever podcast platform you're listening on!
This week, Chloe and Kieran take a look at NHS England's announcement of an ADHD taskforce.. whatever that means. In other news, our own ADHD referrals are finally starting to lace up their skates-- but how long will we be waiting? Also, the washing machine's broken. Also also, there's some hot takes on the Easter Bunny.
This week, we look over some unsurprisingly bleak employment statistics for autistic people, and try to figure out the many, many, many reasons why so few autistic people are in work compared to either neurotypical people or even other disabled people. If you're having trouble either getting a job or staying in one, here's why! *there may well be other reasons too, these are just the ones we could think of off-hand. Go follow the show on Instagram @theautisticexperience, and we'd very much appreciate it if you left a nice rating and review on whatever podcast platform you're listening on!
It's results day! Chloe's had her autism assessment (or 'The Tismo Quizmo', if you prefer), so we go over the process of getting referred, all the paperwork involved, and what the assessment was actually like. So for those of you who are thinking of seeking a diagnosis, this is what you're in for! And yes, we go over the actual results too. We made a promise, after all. You can follow the show on Instagram @theautisticexperience if you're that way inclined, and we'd massively appreciate any nice reviews!
Chloe's got her autism assessment in a few days, so it's time to revise! Kieran's found an adult autism quiz, and we're going to have a practice assessment; play along at home to see how you square up against our scores, and stay tuned for updates next week! You can follow the show on Instagram @theautisticexperience, and we'd always appreciate a nice rating and review on whatever podcast platform you're listening on!
This week on The Autistic Experience, the dishwasher saga continues, there's some very pressing questions for Michael Sheen, Chloe wants to go live on a farm, and Kieran pitches an autism-based video game. Follow the podcast on Instagram @theautisticexperience for references to the articles we talk about! New episodes are available every Sunday at Noon (UK time), and you can listen on most podcast platforms!
We're back after a week off, and a new dishwasher has caused an existential crisis! We like to say we're good problem solvers under pressure, but how does that present itself in real-world situations? And what does getting a dishwasher have to do with being autistic? Find out now! You can also follow the show on Instagram @theautisticexperience
This week, Chloe proclaims herself a croissant hero, and Kieran has a theory about Paddington's dark past (spoiler alert: the title of the episode). They also discuss sensory-friendly clothing and why it's probably not going to be a mainstream thing anytime soon, and one person's efforts to put more pigs into your pocket. Events this week include autism-friendly crazy golf, hiking near a cheese plain, and a very interactive version of Twelfth Night. Go follow us on Instagram @theautisticexperience for references to all the articles and events we talk about!
How bad can an arts centre's Youtube video really be? What's the worst thing to bring to a job interview? And how can you work on collecting coins? Kieran and Chloe completely ignore the sensible things to answer these questions, and quite a bit more! Also, what the hell is suppo? Follow the show on Instagram @theautisticexperience for references to all the articles and events covered!
It's a surprisingly focused episode this week, as Kieran and Chloe try to record the show without waking up the baby guinea pigs! There's some new opportunities for ND and disabled folk to get into museum curating, Toronto's getting an ND thrift store for a few weeks, and there's some lovely lovely ADHD statistics! Events this coming week include a concert with the stellar Derek Paravicini, sensory-friendly tank exhibitions, and some fresh air in Brighton. References to all the articles and events, as usual, are on our Instagram page @theautisticexperience
We've got a new sofa! And also some other stuff about charity walks, wearable treatments for ADHD, and businesses being a real buzzkill when you tell them you're autistic. Events this week include Unmasked: Neurodivergence and Comedy, and an autism-friendly performance of Robin Hood in Coalisland (however that's pronounced). Go follow us on Instagram for references to all the articles and events we cover - @theautisticexperience New episodes go live every Sunday at 12pm UK time!
You know what they say: new year, new pigs! And that's especially true this week, as Chloe and Kieran testify with some eagerly-anticipated new arrivals. Otherwise, we look at something nice finally coming out of Aut-stralia, chronic loneliness of autistic folk, and almost instantly prove a point about how lack of attention completely steamrollers good intentions. Go follow us on Instagram! @theautisticexperience
Here's something Kieran's wanted to do for a while now; a podcast film commentary. Not great if you're sat on a train, but if you need some alone time but want some virtual company to watch a film with, here you are! Since it's December 25th, we thought we'd go with Muppet Christmas Carol: The Full Length Edition. How this works: pull up Disney+, find the full-length version of MCC on your computer, phone or TV (in the regular MCC's 'Extras' tab), start the podcast episode, and hit play on Disney+ at the same time as us. Voila, commentary! If you like this, go follow us on Instagram @theautisticexperience and let us know! Film begins at exactly 4 minutes, if you're in a hurry for Muppet content.
In a slightly shorter episode this week, Chloe and Kieran take a look at what causes thought loops and Chloe's fear of a zombie apocalypse, and discover a new autism-centric show opening on Broadway! Events this week include candle making, ADHD: The Experience, and an autism-friendly Santa cruise! As always, you can follow the show on Instagram @theautisticexperience for updates and references to all the articles and events we cover!
