Madyson sees the Behemoth for the first time. She also sees something else. Something that nobody else does. Armed with this knowledge Madyson does something that surprises even herself. It's time to make a stand.
Madyson has come face to face with the Behemoth. Surrounded by the National Guard, circling helicopters, and news crews, she holds her breath and takes a big step. One that will change her future.
Madyson must face her fears as her resolve to accompany the monstrous Behemoth on his journey is tested. On the other side of a forest, by Round Pond in Amenia, New York, she finds the army ready and waiting.
After the events at Round Pond Madyson travels through the state of New York with the Behemoth. The army has created a corridor to keep people away while they decide what to do. In the meantime Madyson find something that the army has left for her.
As Madyson and Max cross the country the 'corridor' is widened in order to keep people away. But not everyone... as Madyson is about to find out.
Madyson and Max encounter a small group of men in a Kansas cornfield. At first she believes they are military personnel. It doesn't take but a few minutes for them to change her mind.
What's a primatologist doing in Kansas? That's what Madyson wants to know when he approaches her and Max on their trek across North America. She soon discovers that adversity conceals itself in many forms.
After their encounter with the agent Pearce, Madyson finds that Max may not be as ambivalent to the world around him as she had thought.
After Madyson and Max cross the border into Colorado she enters another supply shack to find a few surprises waiting for her... and not all of them pleasant.
As Madyson and Max make their way across New Mexico her mother's words continue to haunt her. She sees danger around every corner... and over every hill.
For the first time since beginning her journey, Madyson desperately needs Max to listen to her. But how does she get a creature the size of a tall building to pay attention? Especially when doing so just might save his life?
Madyson puts her plan into place to save Max. But will she be able to save herself?
