It's episode 400 for our little podcast, so this week Melanie and I do a little reminiscing and reflecting. We're delighted as always to visit with our most frequent podcast guest, Travis Cottrell, and we also revisit some audio clips that feature some of our favorite podcast moments. Plus we catch up on what's been going on in San Antonio and Birmingham. On top of all that, I share an airport story that continues to warm my heart, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. Melanie and I recorded this week's episode late Tuesday night, and you will not be surprised to hear some significant audio issues in the back half (I left my headphones in Birmingham, I had to use my AirPods, and about 25 minutes in my AirPods microphone took over the recording part of the festivities). HOWEVER COMMA we have lots to share about our first couple of days in Dallas at Media Days (more to come on Patreon), and we're thrilled that we managed to record at all because, well, we're us. True story: we would have re-recorded if time had allowed. It's rough going, so thank you in advance for your patience.  We also talk about an unexpected Cowboy sighting, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.  Hope you enjoy! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - The Paul Finebaum Show (our segment starts around 1:53:00) - SEC Football Media Days - Maya Chia Pressed Serum - Clarins depuffing mask - Melanie's chin strap mask - Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb mask - Mi Cocina - Troy Aikman - our segment on Mac and Cube - SEC Storied: Saturday Night Lights - Laura Rutledge - Peter Burns - Cole Cubelic - Cole's podcast (chock-full-o-preseason-football-gold) - Paul Finebaum - The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand - CRZ yoga high waisted athletic shorts - Amazon flat front men's chino shorts - Maya Chia The Refresh Mint exfoliating moisture mask - Nordstrom Moonlight Eco knit pajamas - Upon Waking by Jackie Hill Perry Sponsors: - AG1 - use this link for a free year's supply of vitamins D1 and K2 plus five free travel packs - Stamps - use code BIGBOO for free postage - Thrive Causemetics - use this link for 10% off your first order - Lume - use code BIGBOO for 15% off
Melanie and I were due for a catch-up when we recorded this week's episode, so we talk about what we did on the 4th of July, my latest Pilates adventures, and Melanie's commitment to watching The Chosen. I also share a run-down of the last few books I've read - because apparently reading is my job now. In addition to all that, we share some of our thoughts about the most recent developments with Taylor and Travis, and it's my turn for Five Favorites.  Enjoy, y'all! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop Show Notes: - a CBS Special Presentation opening credits from the 70s - portal works out for Aggie baseball - TRX equipment - Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan  - Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan - Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera - Sandwich by Catherine Newman - Same As It Ever Was by Claire Lombardo - The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center - The Chosen - Taylor's mash-up for Travis - The Bear - SEC Football Media Days in Dallas  - America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on Netflix - DIFF Gigi Cafe Ole brown gradient gold flash sunglasses - rechargeable tactical flashlight (pack of 2) - Tweezerman ProMaster eyelash curler - Public Rec Gamechanger pants - Venus travel razor Sponsors: - OSEA - use code BIGBOO for 10% off - Thrive Market - use this link for 30% off your first order plus a free $60 gift - ZocDoc - use this link to download the app for free
The sun is once again shining in Aggieland, and this week Melanie and I discuss their new head baseball coach as well as the stealthy nature of the coaching search. Well, IT HAS BEEN A WEEK for the Aggies. Melanie and I share some of our thoughts about the very unfortunate set of circumstances surrounding the departure of the A&M baseball coach, and we'll continue that discussion on Patreon. It's not just baseball on this episode, though; we discuss a couple of concerts I've attended this past week and talk about what we've been watching. Melanie and I are right down to the wire on this one - recording on Wednesday afternoon just a few hours before we release the episode - but this is what we needed to do so that Melanie could share a full account of her time with Caroline in Omaha. So we're talking about baseball, and some TV thoughts, and the fact that I went to see an actual movie in an actual theater. So many developments. The Aggies are going to Omaha, so no one will be surprised to hear how much Melanie and I talk about that very thing in this week's episode. So much baseball. So many runs scored by walks. So much fun.  We also discuss some books I've recently read (and loved!), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. Enjoy, y'all! This episode is a college baseball-palooza, what with my attempts to make peace with the Bulldogs' outcome at the regionals and Melanie's recap of her trip to watch the Aggies play the Longhorns (which ended up being an unexpected encounter with an array of tiny Jesuses). Plus, I have some feedback about the announcing side of college baseball and lots of thoughts about a quality at-bat. We also discuss a show we have both loved - as well as my impromptu trip to a fast food restaurant after a doctor's appointment - and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. The Shankles have been in Montana, the Hudsons have been in Hoover (at the SEC baseball tournament), and on this episode that means that Melanie and I have a lot of catching up to do. There have been outdoor adventures, there have been NCAA grievances, and there is a whole lot of college baseball to look forward to as the regionals get cranked up this weekend. Also, I have cooked some meals, so I talk about that - and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie listens patiently as I lament the projected college baseball regionals, and I listen with my mouth hanging open as Melanie shares a specific request P had for this past Friday's trash pick-up (no doubt, however, that it was certainly on-brand). In addition to those things, we discuss our shoe organization and the new season of Bridgerton. Of course there's a kitchen / house update, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites. Right before we recorded this episode, I experienced a significant overtalking situation (to be clear, I was the one who was talking too much), so Melanie and I break down that unfortunate series of events before we discuss her time in College Station, our latest college baseball woes, and the most recent kitchen developments (so close! we're getting so close to the end!).  Plus, Melanie shares about a house she recently visited and loved, her new home furnishing goal, and it's my turn for Five Favorites.  Enjoy, everybody! - Join Us on Patreon - Our Amazon Shop - 2024 Graduation Gift Ideas Show Notes: - The George in College Station - Aggies undefeated in non-conference games - the rug where Hazel likes to hide things - bamboo expandable kitchen drawer dividers - J Crew popover shirt - under cabinet organizer - Daily Practice pull-on cargo shorts - Oxford Pennant Sponsors: - Thrive Causemetics - use this link for 10% off your first order - AG1 - use this link for a year's supply of vitamin D3 & K2 plus five free travel packs - Honeylove - use this link for 20% off - Green Chef - use code BIGBOO50 to get 50% off plus 20% off your next two months
This week everybody's sound is functioning properly (may the Lord be praised) as Melanie and I discuss my time in Houston, P's newest hobby, and the wonder of LSU baseball's Tommy White. Granted, it's not an unusual occurrence, but it's been a tough week for audio excellence here in Big Boo land. Please forgive the absence of consistent volume on my end of things. Plus, Melanie and I recorded this episode in about three different installments because, well, life. However comma our sound gets sorted out by the 30-minute mark (better then than never, right?), and we did manage to have a fairly coherent conversation about our current college baseball situations as well as some thoughts about Taylor Swift's latest offering. Look at us persevere! We also discuss my very late arrival on the Bridgerton train, and it's my turn for Five Favorites. This week Melanie and I recap the Birmingham live show as well as all the fun before and after it. Unfortunately there were a few travel complications when it was time to head back to Texas, but Mel tells the story of a Southwest gate agent who got some things handled in the Birmingham airport. My microphone wasn't on for the first part of this episode (I PROMISE WE CHECK THESE THINGS, but computers / robots / user error / etc.), but thankfully Melanie's Official Look-at-the-Eclipse Break gave me time to correct the situation. In addition to the eclipse, we talk about college baseball, Kristen Wiig's skin, and the women's basketball championship game. This week Melanie has traveled to New Hampshire, we both traveled to the Land of Sports Pain, and we recap all of those literal and figurative trips in this episode (needless to say, the trip to New Hampshire was by far the most enjoyable). On top of that, I explain why we're tearing up my kitchen, and I share some very exciting oven news. In addition to breaking science news, we talk about college baseball, Free People's declaration that it's microshorts season, and Melanie's big make-up / beauty product clean-out. For some reason the show notes aren’t appearing - not sure if it’s Castbox or user error or BigBoo tech difficulties but I need the skincare links! So good!
