No Fabs today, as he travels for the LA Scott Fish Bowl draft this weekend.  But what a guest we have for you!  The leading receiver of the 2012 Jacksonville Jaguars… Cecil Shorts!  The former fantasy stud (WR22 in ’12) used to “hate” fantasy, but now he’s “in love.”  And, as the host of “Bleav in Texans”, he’s got answers to to the questions we all have about the most targeted fantasy offense of the year.  Which Texans WR should we draft?  What can we expect from Joe Mixon?  How bout Dalton Schultz? He’s also got unique insight into Nick Chubb’s return from knee injury (stemming from a multi-ligament knee injury of his own.) Plus… mid-to-late round rookie WR thoughts.  And a favorite Rd 2 target. He’s back! FSWA Hall of Famer Bob Harris (@footballdiehard) graciously returns- despite Michael Fabiano’s harassment- to the Bleav Fantasy Football Show to tell us why he waited 10 rounds (!!!) to draft his first receiver in Scott Fish Bowl. What led to his RB-heavy draft strategy? Is it a strategy more people should employ? Plus, Fabs (with the help of a smart person) tells us what he found when he merged last year’s NFL statistics with this year’s SFB scoring. What did it reveal about the players we’re drafting? And is there a QB we should be taking… a lot earlier? Fabs and Lindsay react to a Superflex Mock Draft they did this week, for Sports Illustrated, with some of their friends from the fantasy industry.  Which builds popped the most?  What is it with the 12-hole and waiting (a long time) on running backs? Why did Lindsay and Fabs make the choices they made?  And which players did Fabs snipe from Lindsay?  (There were 2.) Fabs and Lindsay are back, with reaction to a 12 team PPR mock draft they did for Sports Illustrated- full of heavy hitters from the industry.  Which builds worked best?  What didn’t work? What are the strategies they’re finding most successful this season? The point of mock drafting is to try things out and learn from the experience… and there’s lots to be learned from this particular exercise. The first 3 Scott Fish Bowl live drafts have taken place, and Lindsay and Fabs have 9 draft boards worth of information to take in. Hear their early thoughts on the way drafters seem to have adjusted to this year’s scoring system and where you can find value in your draft. We talked to Scott Fish a few weeks ago about the “nerfed” QB scoring… is it actually pushing QBs down the board?  How early are TEs going with the premium scoring? What about kickers, with their inflated scoring? Plus… is Caleb Williams a risky pick? And does Superman 2 hold up?  (Fabs, from his own Fortress of Solitude, breaks down his recent rewatch of the 1980 film and a handful of plot holes that bothered him more as an adult than they did as a kid.) Bold Predictions

Bold Predictions

Fabs and Lindsay are back and bold in this episode.  Whether it’s talking about old Love Boat episodes, Milton Berle “fun” facts you’d rather not know, or football milestones that may or may not be in reach, it’s all on the table in this one. Find out which of Fabs’ “bold predictions” he believes in the least and the one Lindsay doesn’t think is realistic at all. Would You Rather...

Would You Rather...

2024-06-2501:22:42

Today on the Fantasy Football Show, Fabs and Lindsay are grouping players by team and asking which one they’d rather have AT ADP. Puka Nakua at the end of the 1st round or Cooper Kupp in the middle of the 4th? Achane at 2.6? Or Mostert at 8.6? This is a value driven conversation aimed at figuring out what our best build strategy might be.  And as always, it goes off the raise. Gear up for an interjected “which records will never be broken” conversation.  And yet another “What should we make of Diggs” discussion. Fabs has found some stats that drove fantasy production for a few of your favorite players last year, that he doesn’t think we’re likely to see duplicated this season.  That doesn’t mean they’re all regression candidates in fantasy, but that they might have to generate fantasy points a different way.  As Fabs likes to say, “Beware the magical season.” We’ve got a few for each position group. Mock Draft takeaways

Mock Draft takeaways

Fabs did a 10 round mock draft with different starting build strategies for each team.  In this episode, Lindsay and Fabs react to the draft, pointing out patterns that developed and where value picks emerged. They talk about the ranges that they might want to target for various position groups and why they’d take certain players ahead of others within the same range. SFB14 scoring is out and Scott Fish is here with the cliff’s notes. Tight ends are premium.  But HOW premium?  QBs are nerfed, but HOW nerfed?  (Also what does nerfed mean?  And what’s a sigma rizzler?) Rasheed Shahid is going to go higher in your drafts than you’d otherwise expect because special teams scoring is nuts.  (Should you take a kicker earlier this year?) And that’s just the scoring.  Lineup requirements will also alter draft strategies. (Just 1 RB spot?! 6 flexes?!) If you’re in SFB14, or if you want to be, this is the show for you! Our conversation, on the last episode, about the 3 Texans WRs, and the likelihood that they meet ADP expectations this year, led Fabs down a historical rabbit hole.  And he emerged with some data.  Historically… the number of teams that have supported 3 high(er) end WRs in one season is… small.  But it’s happened.  And Fabs and Lindsay disagree about whether the numbers make them feel better or worse about the Texans chances. Also in this episode, a closer look at Mike Evans.  Is he flying under the fantasy radar?  And should you prefer him to Drake London at ADP? Plus… are you “Team Lots Of Pictures In My Phone” or “Team Delete and Keep That Number Manageable?” Download and subscribe to the BLEAV Fantasy Football Show wherever you get your podcasts and follow Lindsay and Michael on twitter @lindsay_rhodes and @michael_fabiano.
We’re tackling some high end wide receivers on today’s episode, with numbers you need to know before you draft. Like: *Puka’s averages WITH Cooper Kupp. (What if Kupp’s healthy all year? Does that hurt Puka’s fantasy value?) *Justin Jefferson WITHOUT Kirk Cousins. (How worried should we be about JJ’s value with Darnold or McCarthy?) *Diggs in Houston (Is he declining?  Can they support THREE fantasy assets at WR?) Speaking of which, have we EVER seen a team support 3 WRs the way we’re hoping Houston (and Chicago) will this season? Lindsay and Fabs hope this conversation helps you figure out which guys you’d prefer in the higher ranges, and why. Don’t Be Deceived- RBs

Don’t Be Deceived- RBs

Lindsay and Fabs are back with some stats that might sway your opinions about the fantasy value of a handful of running backs. What should we make of the way James Cook, Zamir White & Aaron Jones finished the year last season? What should we make of the multi-back backfields in Seattle, Miami and Pittsburgh? Plus.. a very specific thing to look out for this summer in Denver. Also… in the non-fantasy related department, this episode brings you a horror movie recommendation; thoughts on female hair lengths… and bad news for Movember participants. 14 of Goff’s first 15 games are indoors! Stafford averaged 20.3 pts in his last 6 starts! There’s a lot of information out there about fantasy assets- both exciting and concerning.  But what should you make of it all? Fabs has honed in on 8 QB stats that he thinks are helpful in determining what’s real and what’s not. Listen to his conversation with Lindsay as they try to figure out who’s worth drafting… and which QBs really have a chance to be better this season. Lindsay is on vacation, so Fabs goes solo with a look at wide receiver and tight end sleepers for 2024! Fabs also discusses the teams that have to play three games in 13 days or less during the season, including the Cowboys and Chiefs (to name a few), and what it might mean for fantasy fans. Plus, he talks about his experience at a sleep center for his sleep apnea issues (wonderful), and why it's almost never OK to switch teams or root for multiple teams in the same sport! Rest edges & Sleepers

Rest edges & Sleepers

2024-05-2159:15

Gotta love when an organic theme develops. And today’s theme is “rest.” Lindsay and Fabs discuss Warren Sharp’s findings about rest edges revealed by the schedule release, and what the rest disparities might mean for fantasy… starting with the #1 pick. Then Fabs reveals his 2024 “Sleepers” at QB and RB.  (After establishing his very thorough- and narrow- definition of “sleeper”). It’s also revealed that Fabs is a poor “sleeper” and might be getting a CPAP machine, which will definitely be good for his dating life. Plus… a discussion about the last “Total Access” show. The schedule is out. What does it mean for your fantasy team?  Lindsay and Fabs, and special guest JJ Zachariason (@lateroundqb) from the Late Round Podcast, tell you what schedule-related elements they look for to help them draft, and which elements might not be as relevant as you think. Plus… JJ is documenting his attempt to become a “Best Ball Bro” this summer and tells us what he’s learned about the format to this point. *How is best ball strategically different from redraft? *Which themes have emerged in the 250 best ball drafts he’s started so far? *How does he approach variance when drafting that many teams? *Which running back is going too high? It’s the last round of our rookie dynasty mock draft!  Picks 31-40.  This is where Puka Nakua came off the board last year.  Will there be a hidden gem in here, this year? Finally, we see a slow down on wide receivers as other position groups start to come off the board.  Is this where we’ll see Michael Penix drafted? Fabs and Lindsay continue their rookie dynasty mock draft with picks 21-30.  (If you haven’t heard the episodes about rounds 1 & 2, you might want to listen to those before you listen to this one.) To start the episode, Fabs and Lindsay evaluate their drafts so far.  Which picks  already made, would they make differently, in retrospect.  (They each have one do-over.) Then, they dive into their round 3 picks, continue to struggle with the new name pronunciations, go down a weird rabbit hole about name origins and “sexy” trees.
