This week's episode recaps the Lions' week that was, covers a recruiting victory, and looks ahead to this weekend's trip to West Point, N.Y. Host Thomas Frank Carr and Greg Pickel start with a conversation about the season-opening weekend. Four of five Nittany Lions won their exhibition bouts at the NWCA All-Star Classic. Then, the Nittany Lions pounded Drexel 41-3. What were the top things we learned? The discussion focuses on how familiar wrestlers performed in their new weight classes, Shayne Van Ness' return from injury to dominate in the NWCA All-Star Classic, Braeden Davis' injury, and more. From there, the conversation turns ahead to Cael Sanderson's most recent news conference. What did we learn? Carr and Pickel discuss top takeaways from it, including an update on Davis' status, the head coach's thoughts on star freshman Luke Lilledahl, the decision timeline to pick a starter at 197 pounds (which surely applies to 157, too), and more.#PennState  #NittanyLions  JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationGet the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24PreviewBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters:  https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.comPenn State Wrestling Show: Army Black Knight Invitational Preview

There's been significant backlash from the national media about the situation. Recently, however, SEC coaches have also taken issue with the top-heavy rankings. After practice, Penn State head coach James Franklin responded to that criticism. Today, we'll discuss Franklin's response to start the show. We'll also recap yesterday's practice. Penn State Recruiting newsAfter the team's two-week recruiting surge to start November, things have settled down, leading to signing day. But there are sharks in the water after Ohio State commit Zahir Mathis decommitted from the program. The Buckeyes offered recent Penn State commit and Ohio native Chaz Coleman this week. What's the danger of the Buckeyes flipping the ultra-athletic edge defender from the Lions right before signing day? We'll discuss the situation with recruiting experts Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder on today's show. We'll also continue our conversation from Tuesday about the latest Class of 2025 rankings and the players that moved up and down the list. Snyder spoke with On3 Recruiting director Charles Power about Coleman and tackle Malachi Goodman. He'll share the highlights of those conversations on today's show. There are more storm clouds on the horizon, too. Top 2026 commit Messiah Mickens showed up on the sidelines of an SEC game this past weekend. It required winning out and several other games to break its way in the final weeks of the season. Miraculously, that happened. So, could it happen again? The team is 9-1 heading into the final two weeks of the regular season, and we'll start the show by discussing the tiebreaker scenarios that the team would need to win in order to secure a spot in Indianapolis. From there, we'll preview Penn State practice on Wednesday night and which players we're expecting to see and monitor at practice. Get in-depth breakdowns of the team and its upcoming opponents, recruiting intel from the best reporters in the business, and more! Penn State dominates bottom-dweller in the Big Ten Penn State raced out to a 21-3 lead over Purdue in the first half of the game, powered by two efficient and effective drives to start the game. Penn State quarterback Drew Allar went 10-10 for 116 yards and a touchdown to start things off while the team averaged 6.4 yards per carry in the first half. However, two stalled three-and-out drives stymied the scoring fest heading into halftime. But unlike last week against Washington, Penn State's offense didn't blink after halftime. The offense scored three times in the third quarter including two explosive runs from Tyler Warren and Beau Pribula and a 46-yard touchdown pass from Allar to Trey Wallace to end the day for the starting offense.  Warren was once again the star of the game for the Nittany Lions. The Penn State tight end caught all eight of his targets for 127 yards and a touchdown. He also added in 63 yards and a score on the ground, bringing his game total to 190 yards and two touchdowns. Abdul Carter does it againIt wasn't a perfect night from the Penn State defense, but it was close. The backup linebackers and secondary entered the game with a 21-3 lead but gave up a field goal scoring drive in the second quarter. Beyond that, it was a long day, once again, for this 1-9 Purdue team. Abdul Carter was once again the star on defense, racking up five tackles, two tackles for loss, and multiple quick pressures that ended plays for Purdue. More game day content Be sure to stick around after the postgame show to hear from head coach James Franklin. Penn State rose to the number four slot after several ranked teams lost last weekend in conference play. What does that mean for the team's chances in the playoffs? Reporter Greg Pickel will give the lay of the land in the second week of the rankings and we'll discuss the future opportunities for the Nittany Lions. Next, we'll take our eyes off the horizon and focus on today. Penn State opens Wednesday's practice to the media for our weekly view of the team's work. What are we looking for this week, and what do we want to learn from Penn State head coach James Franklin after practice? We'll preview tonight's action. Penn State snap countsOne of the notable trends this year is that for a team ranked in the top five of the college football world, Penn State does not have many blowout wins. Yes, they've won several games by multiple scores, but the team has yet to put away lesser talent early. While we won't get into all of the reasons why, we will discuss the impact of those longer games on the defensive roster. Who has played too many snaps this year and thus, needs a break? We'll discuss the two-year snap count comparison from the 2023 season to the 2024 season to find out. Penn State vs Purdue preview and Breaking NewsFinally, we'll take that information and apply it to the game this weekend. We'll discuss which players we expect to get a lighter workload on Saturday against Purdue and which players will replace them. We'll also discuss how Purdue plays and what that means. We know that Penn State should win and win big, but which players need to be a significant part of the success? Lastly, we'll discuss breaking news that landed before the show. #PennState  #NittanyLions  JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationGet the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24PreviewBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters:  https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.comPenn State Climbs in the College Football Playoff Rankings | Purdue Preview

Was that the most complete half of football that the team has played? We'll discuss. Fitz's Recruiting UpdateNext, we'll discuss what happened off the field for the Penn State Football team. The program picked up two commitments on Saturday and Sunday. First, four-star offensive lineman Layton von Brandt committed to the Nittany Lions. Fitz will discuss the impact of an offensive line commit two years out from his signing day. Four-star defensive end Chaz Coleman followed on Sunday night. Check out our breakdown of that commitment from Monday. Fitz will follow up with his thoughts on Coleman's impact. Finally, we'll review the team's other White Out recruiting news to end the segment. Between The LinesPenn State head coach James Franklin spoke with the media on Monday to kick off the team's final road game stretch, starting with Purdue this coming weekend. As is the case when facing a 1-8 team, very few of the questions and answers were about the Boilermakers. Today, we'll focus on the things Franklin said about redshirts, facilities and Hakeem BeamonOn how the team handles redshirts in the final three games:"The way we look at the green/yellow/red. Green, you're trying to burn. Yellow, you're trying to hold the redshirt if you can. And red is a guy that's most likely going to redshirt. And all those things can changed based on injury. What I'm saying is we manage this that we now should be at this stage, a lot of these guys be able to play and still be able to keep their redshirt."Penn State Facilities Well, what I will say is, number one, I'm appreciative of all the work that's gone in over our 11 years. One of the things I'd like to show you guys at some point is we've taken before-and-after pictures of everything, and I think back all the way to standing on that turf practice field and my back was up against the fence and you guys were asking me questions -- a lot of the same people in the room were asking me questions about facilities. And that was a battle when I first got here.Beamon"He's no longer a part of the program. I love Hakeem. Love his mom. It's been probably over seven years from the high school recruiting process and ups and downs and twists and turns and smiles and tears and everything in between. Graduating from Penn State, we're very, very proud of that for him and did a bunch of good things on the field. But he's no longer a part of the team."BWI MailbagFinally, we'll end the show with questions from viewers and members of the Blue White Illustrated message board. Quarterback Drew Allar was 14-18 for 140 yards, including 56 yards to wide receiver Trey Wallance. Tight end Tyler Warren wasn't invisible at the goal line this time; the 260-pound tight end went vertical from the three-yard line to score a touchdown and added another second in the first half. The scoring slowed down in the second half, with a fumble from Warren on a promising drive to start the third quarter. That led to a field goal from Washington, who benched starter Will Rogers at halftime in favor of the more mobile backup Demond Williams Jr. While Williams Jr. did give the Huskies more breathing room in the run game, he was sacked multiple times in the second half, leading to only six points before Penn State ended the game with a scoring drive in the fourth quarter.  Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter was the player of the night on defense, finally getting his breakout game. He had four tackles for loss and two sacks, plus a forced fumble. Next up for Penn State and postgame coveragePenn State is now 8-1 on the season after the win, with a road trip to West Lafayette to face Purdue next weekend. Also, we'll tell you what it means for the team's postseason chances. Penn State gets out to a hot startThe Penn State opening drive went well, as they have done for much of the season. The team held the ball for half of the first quarter and drove deep into Ohio State territory. Starting quarterback Drew Allar, a question coming into the game, kept plays alive with his feet, but ultimately, the team settled for a field goal. That was the story for Penn State's offense. When it did put together a drive, the effort stalled out for a field goal. Coming out of halftime, the Nittany Lions put together an adjustment drive that led to eight plays and 49 yards but ultimately ended in another Ryan Barker field goal. Overall, the offense struggled to get players open against the physical Ohio State cornerbacks. The officials left the flag in their pockets on several occasions in the first half but the Nittany Lions also struggled to get open against zone. Penn State chose to leave players into chip against the aggressive Ohio State defensive line, giving Allar fewer options in the passing game. Defense struggles to keep athletes under control The Penn State defense played a gutsy game, keeping the explosive Ohio State offense in check for most of the game. The defensive secondary struggled to find receivers early in the game, giving up some big plays on play-action and long-developing routes. Ohio State also pivoted and ran quarterback Will Howard more than they have all season, putting Penn State's big, physical defensive ends into conflict. However, Ohio State struggled to run between the tackles and Howard missed several wide-open touchdowns to his receivers on deep passes. Ultimately, the Penn State offense couldn't mount a counter-punch, even with a chunk of the scoring coming from the defense on a pick-six in the first quarter. The Penn State offense got the ball down to the one-yard line but failed to punch the ball in on fourth down. Ohio State then salted the game away with four minutes left. Join the live show to share your thoughts about the game! The defense forced a three-and-out to start its work in the second half. Then, on third and 15 from his own end zone, Wisconsin quarterback Braeden Locke threw a pick-six interception to safety Jaylen Reed. Reed's score was the catalyst that helped propel the team to the win. The defense put clamps on Wisconsin on all but one drive, where Locke threw a 33-yard deep shot after running an up-tempo play to get Penn State off-balance. But from there, the Nittany Lions snuffed out the Wisconsin offense, forcing multiple three-and-outs during the game. Injuries change momentum, Penn State changes it back The story of the game was nearly that Penn State's best players exited in the first half and the team lost an undefeated season with that fateful luck. The Nittany Lions struggled to find a rhythm on offense despite putting up  194 yards in the first half. Part of the issues started in the first quarter when starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh suffered another injury while in pass protection of quarterback Drew Allar. After trying to come back into the game for a drive, he was shut down for the rest of the game. But the full Andy Kotelnicki run offense was unleashed in the second half with backup quarterback Beau Pribula. The third-year passer engineered an impressive offensive performance that powered Penn State to a victory. Pribula gained 28 yards rushing and 98 yards passing on the way to a 21-point outburst in the third and early fourth quarters. What else happened in the game?
