In this episode Christopher makes a long journey all the way to London to find and live with his mother because he doesn’t feel safe living with his father. After a long journey, he finds his mother and moves in, after all this time, he’s actually found her! To keep up to date with everything that’s going on follow our Instagram @thebook.corner_ https://www.instagram.com/thebook.corner_/?hl=en . Next episode we’ll be reading from page 179 ‘Chapter 191’ to page 242 ‘Chapter 229’. BACKGROUND INFO on THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME: Christopher Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the color yellow. Although gifted with a superbly logical brain, for fifteen-year-old Christopher everyday interactions and admonishments have little meaning. He lives on patterns, rules, and a diagram kept in his pocket. Then one day, a neighbor’s dog, Wellington, is killed and his carefully constructive universe is threatened. Christopher sets out to solve the murder in the style of his favourite (logical) detective, Sherlock Holmes. What follows makes for a novel that is funny, poignant and fascinating in its portrayal of a person whose curse and blessing are a mind that perceives the world entirely literally. BACKGROUND INFO on AUTISM: Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. After being rushed to hospital due to having an epileptic convulsion, they try to uncover this mysterious problem to why he is constantly sick and failing at school. The teachers are blaming it’s because of the stress of his Dad who was away in Iraq fighting with the army, but is that really the reason? Find out with us as we read Dings! BACKGROUND INFO on EPILEPSY: Epilepsy is a common condition where sudden bursts of electrical activity in the brain cause seizures or fits. Essentially, the brain’s electrical waves decide to go a bit wild and are soon out of control causing seizures. Seizures are when a person is out of control of their body and usually start thrashing or shaking before falling unconscious. These may be triggered by many things including tiredness, alcohol, drugs, flashing lights or just the brain misbehaving. It varies depending on the person’s brain. If someone does have a seizure then make sure you lay them down or get them outside into some fresh air. Seek medical assistance and once they’re conscious again get lots of sugar back inside of them, food and water. In this episode we read in Via’s ex-best friend’s shoes and why she suddenly started rejecting Via. So far we’ve seen her as a backstabber who’s just left Via behind, but why? We then go back into Auggie’s shoes and follow him on his school residential trip, which he is terrified about? We watch Auggie take a step out of his comfort zone and another step to becoming, as he describes, “ordinary”.
