Jackson Franklin is a Democrat running for Congress in the 5th Congressional District. It currently has a large part of east central Indiana. The current rumored redistricting map would put Henry County in the district as well.
Jackson is a 25 year old National Guard medic from Delaware County. He has a deep grasp of the issues and a very detailed platform. Topics include electoral reform, minimum wage, taxing wealthy Americans, and how to solve healthcare issues in the country.
With the federal government shut down, SNAP benefits are not fully funded. Local restaurants and community leaders are trying to help meet the need. In sports, the Colts are making moves, trading two first round picks for Sauce Gardener. Will it lead to a Super Bowl?

The Indianapolis Zoo had a pair of endangered tortoises go missing. They turned up 20 miles from the studio at the Pendleton town park. We suspect a toddler took them home and some parents panicked. The Horse Racing season wraps up this week with the Breeders Cup in San Diego, Mr Bones gives us his picks. Finally, the Jim Irsay collection is for sale, as even billionaires don't want their parents' stuff.

Retired State Representative Tom Saunders joins us with his thoughts on the mid cycle redistricting proposal. Tom was involved in two redistricting processes in his more than 20 years in the General Assembly. Former Governor Daniels has come out asking Indiana to not redistrict. Multiple visits by Vice President Vance, and a trip to Washington for most of the GOP members have put immense pressure on the members.
Tom has been working with Paul Landis, the last surviving Secret Service officer from Dallas during the JFK assassination. We hear stories from the book tour. Finally, we discuss the recent demolition of the East Wing of the White House and the new Ballroom that President Trump is erecting in its place. Tom reminds us that when he visited President Nixon, he entered through the East Wing.

Henry County has two big ticket issues ahead. Will the Juvenile Detention Center be re-opened? If a data center is located in Henry County, what would that do for the county budget? This week news broke about New Castle not pursuing Community Crossings money for roads this cycle. Communities are allowed to partner together, the hosts ask if it's possible to have Henry County provide matching dollars so that the available dollars could come into the community. Perhaps finally pave the roads inside Memorial Park, as they are not in the county, city, or state inventory.

Conversation about departmental chances since he took over. How culture has changed, more ranks have been established and officer pay has increased.
In 2021 the County opened a new jail and almost immediately it was at capacity. Since that time the jail population has reduced about 40% and there isn't talk about expansion. Of the 180+ inmates in the facility, only 18 are sentenced. The rest are awaiting trial. Really good conversation around how they have worked to improve the speed of the system. Other topics include navigating local politics, and the interaction of local town marshall offices and the reputation for “badge factories”.A great long form conversation that explores some parts of the criminal justice system that get forgotten.

They are both retired from DNR Leadership and now working to advocate for funding in the State Parks system. This year park services and staffing have been reduced due to lower reserve funds for the parks. Reports of lack of mowing, pools being closed, and even the elimination of paper maps.

Episode 401 of Boss Hog of Liberty is out! This week Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, and Zach Burcham talk with ARCA driver Presley Sorah. Presley is from nearby Cambridge City and will be racing later his month at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Brickyard Weekend.
We learn how he put his deal together. Stories of his last two years in moving from iRacing into real racing. Last year his race in Indy ended in a mechanical failure. Bones expects a win. Presley has done everything from social media to spotting to tire changing to driving. His day job is a teacher at the local elementary school, when the weekend hits he gets in the car and heads to the races.

A $30,000 fireworks show is happening at Memorial Park, Jeremiah caught himself a Facebook ban. Lots of state news this week; Governor Braun made some big changes on the IEDC board including some major donors to his campaign. He also froze tuition at all Indiana universities for the next two years. Four years at IU Bloomington is 48, Purdue 40k. The Indiana DNR is eliminating State Park maps, saving $110,000 a year. Response has been mixed. The NBA season is over, it's a disappointment for the Pacers fan.
